Welcome toIndia's best school
by Dr. P H Waghodekar on May 26, 2006 05:39 PM

Hearty congratulations to DAV Boys Senior Scondary School,Gopalpuram, Chennai for their excellent achievements in the XII and AIEE Examinations.

May Almighty further their performance in future. The DAV students will hopefully function as the pillars of India of the 21st Century.

The School is selective for input,i.e., students are admitted based on the merit they obtain in the entrance examination held by the School. The quality input is further required to pass through mock-exams rigor round the year. And the output is excellent, a bench mark for schools. Can stalwarts in Education offer similar autonomy to all ordinary schools spread all over the country?

My best wishes to DAV again!

Kudos to DAV
by Mohith on May 26, 2006 05:20 PM

As an ex-alumni of DAV and as a BITSian pass out I can say with full confidence that DAV is not only good for studies but for overall development as well. I accept that in sports we are far behind but in personality development DAV is far far far ahead of other schools atleast in Chennai.
I have seen students from all other schools but as far as intake as well as excelling in BITS in extra curricular activities DAVians outshone others.

Stop harping about reservations!
by Mridula on May 26, 2006 05:19 PM

FYI for all who immediately want to link this article to reservations: DAV takes in a diverse group of students, including those from very disadvantaged backgrounds- bus/van drivers' and factory workers' kids, etc. Also because it is still one of the few "affordable" CBSE schools in Chennai, it attracts ppl who might otherwise have to settle for mediocre schools that charge lower fees. So, DAV-Chennai has a good share of supportive policies for backward students, though not through reservations.

That said, DAV is all acads acads acads. I studied there for 8 yrs (and thankfully shifted to Vidya Mandir after)- and remember them failing children as young as 5 or 6 because they didn't keep up to standard.. and issuing "ranks" to equally young children who came "first" in class. Which made me question: What about a child's right to be a child??

For those who chose to pursue extracurriculars seriously, there was NO support- in fact, I had to quit NCC because my teachers were unwilling to help me if I missed class for training! PSBB, Vidya Mandir, Bala Vidya Mandir and Shankara are CBSE schools which not only have kids doing great academically but also shining in unconventional areas.

Why the students from non-english medium do not score such a high percentage.

This is only hype. The teachers are valuating the DAV papers by closing their eye.

This argument is absolutely baseless and irrelevant. Besides, isnt English a compulsory language in CBSE? That's why, non-english medium school guys dont do well.

Do you even know how papers are evaluated? The evaluator does not know which school a paper comes from. So, stop making accusations and being jealous.

One wonders some times if these people are competent enough to make responsible humanbeings which I thought was the essence of Education and not human computers.Welcome to the world of discrimination....

Future

Its really a high time for these guys to celebrate coz even i did same scoring a high percentage in X and XII exams..but for all these guys i would like to suggest that never take this as an achievement coz i really dont know that who had ever asked me for my marks ever after that. These are just the gateways for the future and none of the universities in the country take it as an admission criteria. So guys dont stop here to celebrate but look forward for your landmarks. My best wises for all of you.
