I am a malayalee and I know that Kerala is one of the most difficult states for any worthwile industry to survive. The communist party in kerala is supposed to be the party of the poor, but its own riches are beyond comparison so much so that it has its own TV channel. All the communists follow is a constant policy of protectionism that actually ensures the poor they claim to protect never advance to world class standards. The biggest communist country of them all-China, made it because it opened its door to foreign direct investment, the latest in technology, educating its poor, turning them into world class manufacturers and biulders.

Oh...No...This is toooooooo much

I wont agree completely to this column, though I agree in some aspects like FDI. But the author forgot to mention the main aspect, the main positive point of Left regime (in Kerala particularly) - EQUALISM among people. If you are good knowledge about the living style of rural people across the country, then please compare other states to Kerala. yes, Kerala doesnot have a big city like Chennai, Pune, Lucknow etc. But see the villages in Kerala. It's far far better than any other state in India, except Punjab which is almost equal to Kerala. See the life style of these rural guys. It was possible only because of this CPM. Kerala has a rich middle class, thanks to Left's pro-labour policies. Keral doesnt have cast discriminations, thanks to Left's all-are-equal policies (please read news on what happens to Dalit families in other states).
Every coin has two points. Every party has both poitive as well as negative "features". So leave alone Left.

Dear Naveen,
I don't think you're a keralite, or if so, you don't know what's happening around. The communists had done several stupid things, but there is a marked difference between the social status of people in kerala and elsewhere, and the key development initiatives were (ironically?) started by the communists. Being a keralite and a strong criticiser of the CPM's political fascism, I observe that they are better than others when it comes to progressive steps taken by any government that ruled kerala. Ofcourse they've been on the path of destroying the same progressive things for the past few years. Kerala's financial status may be contributed by gulf money, but its social status, definitely due to the earlier communist rulers.

Hello Deepthi,
You have definitely got it wrong. Its actually that inspite of Communists Kerala has survived. Basically its rich fertile land with huge repatriated money from Gulf. Its definitely not due to communists. And do you know that no industry has survived in kerala! Thanks to communists. Religious equality is not brandmark of communists anyway. Its the need of the hour for them to come to power. Just see the fate of Kolkatha. U will understand.

by R.Nadimuthu on Mar 17, 2006 08:45 PM

Dear Sir,
i fully endorse his stand. The left out legacies are listed under.
The public transport will be under constant threat of strike.
Maoists' killings will be swept under carpet under the bogey of social revolution.
the common man will be identified only from trade unionists.

The entire public will be made to serve for the cause of organised sector.

Lock out will be order of the day.

Pepople will be admistered cermonial dose of communism everyday to forget their hunger.

India will soon turn another cidatel of democracy like Cuba.

The country will soon switch over to barter system of trade.

Every opponent to their views will be termed as either communalists or imperialistic agents.

People will have the benifits enjoying the fruits of stone age.etc etc

nice joke! Medical facilities! Sorry sir I have to laugh loudly!

Do you know the chinese just spell communism in their words but they dont really follow that. They have woke up already. But only the Idiot Indian communists do it. The chinese already had started allowed FDI in their country and china is thriving.
Dont get fooled!

BTW... your medical facilities is just a propaganda story! The US and west have achieved a lot more than the human right deprived pathetic chinese. Your china will continue growing only if they follow this trend without going back to the hardline communism else, you will see another north Korea(adjacent to it)
Do you know? Deng Xiaoping is the first Communist china's supreme leader to who visited NY(US)? And heard that he realised mistake for comparing with the then russians and assuming china is already prosperous. Than came the other leaders who silently kept away the real communism and did the job. That is another story.
Again I repeat, dont fool yourself!

This Article has no sense :)
by Joy on Mar 17, 2006 08:27 PM

The author of this article has forgotten that China which is threatening to overcome US economy is a communist country. The author also needs to know that US instead of having the best Medicle technology does not have Medicle reach to even 20% of population because of the capitalism. And the Cuba instead of being communist has the best Medicle System and is accessible to 100% of the population.

Interesting Thought
by Subho on Mar 17, 2006 07:56 PM

But I don't get it - what exactly was the purpose of this article? Given the election model that India has, there is no way the communists can come to power. Yes, I know they were dangerously close in 1997 - and thank God it didn't happen. I agree with all that the writer says - but imagine a government headed by Buddhadev Bhattacharyya, WITHOUT any Marxists in the cabinet. I think he'd do well actually, given what he's been doing in Bengal. Sure, he'd still be second to Manmohan Singh, but I suspect he'd be only a close second :-)

Apropos your column, I find that the spoof is good enough to spook any Indian and it is good that these no-good armchair critics dont achieve any minority.

The sad part is that they win upto 60 seats and lot of gas emission happens when the so called Comrades open their stupid mouths on TV.

You also forgot that the Naxalites will be part of the Republic Day march down the India Gate and that the chosen salute will be Lal Salaam

God, it is really a forbidding thought that these guys could actually do all this and impose their foolish notions of peoples democracy and also line up their pockets but cutting side deals
