i don't bother to know who has written the article, WHEN WILL INDIA ROCK?
you hav very well put across ur views on indians and media who fail to encourage the local talent but instead hype unnecessarily foreign talent. i completely agree that all these great musicians and singers perform in india when they are worn out. They all are talented and well renowned but we r making a mistake here by ignoring our desi talent. Be it indian rock music or classical music, who is interested?? Indian youngsters are busy aping the west and criticizing everything which is indian.Eg swades is boring.... but said that media is not to b blamed. It is a business after all. It is we indians who are responsible. If we are ashamed of ourselves and our identity what can media do? In order to be global we are trying to be westernized forgetting what we really are.
If we appreciate our talent the media will do its job well.
INDIA WILL ROCK ONLY IF WE BELIEVE IN OUR TALENT.

well thought
by Omar Sharif on Oct 02, 2005 07:14 PM

they say, "you never appreciate the beauty within"... for all the orange streets, mokshas and still waters that we know, there are hundreds of XXX (the unknowns)left somewhere in the alleys of gloom!!! isnt it a great loss for us that we are deprived of the music that we love so much--- the music within?

one more of those trash-the-west articles
by Ramaseshan on Oct 02, 2005 06:53 PM

There is no point upping Indian music by comparing it with rock bands from the west. Moksha cannot become Nirvana, they can only cover them. And while i am on the topic, let me remind the author that there is no band called Megadeath... If you don't know band names properly, please don't attempt to write these articles.

I do agree bands like skinny alley ARE good, but that doesnt mean I wouldn't go to the Clapton concert.

When will India Rock? Comments
by Salil Subhash Bane on Oct 01, 2005 01:00 PM

The column When will India Rock? was indeed an eye opener. For all those who like to emulate West without knowing what to, its a good dose. I agree in totallity with Mr. Sumeet Bhatacharya, who has very genuinely put the plight of our own singers, the ignorance of our so called westenised Indians.

I was there for the MLTR show in Bangalore....

but was shocked to see that there were so many people "swooning" and swaying to songs that seem so rheotric at times.. about love and its absence...

we should organise more and more shows for talent wthin out country.. and by the article, we can see its not lacking !!!

you should visit grapevien in Chennai. thats what i call India learns to rock !!!

india can rock!
by yousuf eranpur on Oct 01, 2005 10:38 AM

i dont get it !!....when pakistanis can rock ..why cant the indians!!??....oh yeh!...maybe the reason for it lies in those five letters R.E.M.I.X.....for sum reason indian party lovers and rockers hav been made to believe by those "seth" run music companies tht remix is the new rock!..hahah...whn its soooo not....sittin here in pakistan i hav heard abt the potential of manymumbai and kolkata based underground rock bands....i suggest the upper class or elite student body organise gigs in school and universities b4 the beauty of rock music is lost and oblivious to this generation of india!
