probably why a music enthusiast would rather listen to a familiar tune than to something unfamiliar...
consider the opposite situation...if an unknown brit-asian band came to india doing hindi songs, few would have the patience to listen to them coz the songs won't be familiar to them...never mind that the band is good or not...
even the beatles had to do somebody else's music, until they succeded with their own...and, predictably, they had to do well-known songs of successful musicians, like chuck berry...
it's quite another matter that they appreciated chuck's music...
Well said guys, that's a great article. It's sad but true that the Indian non-film music scene sucks big time because there's no one to nurture it,and with remixes whatever remaining resources are also being sucked up. My advise to the bands would be to believe and stick in there and do their own thing, and find alternates to distribute their music,like I did with Rediff.Good luck to them all.
