And to think that a senior editor of rediff.com was unable to keep her personal views out of what was supposed to be an impartial look at Narendra Modi...
Your statement that 'secularists' too feel that the VHP followers dug their own grave when they 'molested and harassed muslims' at the station... is extremely offensive inasmuch as it generalises a section of the people who may hold other opinions too. It was, at best, a cheap shot possibly to give vent to your frustration that the Gujaratis - rich and poor alike - voted Modi back to power. I have also sent a letter to the editor, but seeing as this is the work of a Senior editor at rediff.com, I really doubt any good will come out of it.
Ma'm, one last request. If you are unable to balance your views before presenting them, at least allow an opportunity for another, less-biased - or opposingly-biased - person to express their views. Otherwise, this media loses its credibility.
If this post is indeed published, I shall be happy that there is still some journalism left at rediff.com. If not,... well, at least I shall be happy knowing that you've read it and acknowledge it to be true.

MODI

Decisive, authoritative, autocratic, Barbarian, Hitler, Mussolini, butcher - you canm give him as many abuses as you want.

One thing is certain. This man is formidable, has strong convictions, knows his job (or Rajdharma)i.e. governanve and devlopment and is willing to tread difficult and unpopular path. English media hyped Chandra Babu, but have not taken note of this new superior Chandra Babu.
Keeping aside Gujarat riots, he has provided unmatched leadership to the state. Has strategically confined himself to the state. Barring electon time has nor spoken too much or too loud.
He wil be a leader to watch, if he successfully manages to come out of Riot mess, which in any case will haunt him forever.

Rahther than giving too much publicity and life-size image to Yadavs and Gandhis, media should also focus some attention to Modi, who is likely to emerge as a formidable leader in his own right.

Biased

This is just a biased rheotic against Modi. Sheela Bhatt is a known congress supporter, so does not like any thing good being done by Modi.

Ms. Sheela Bhat is desparate to see Modi ousted! She grudgingly acknoledges his 'development' initiatives. Why does our polity hate strong-willed people? We love our consensus Congress Netas who have and will do nothing other than further their interests by ignoring the Hindu aspirations and bending over backwards to act as the 'messiah' of minorities.

With such journalists, Hindu India has little hope of growth and progress and but for people like Modi, India will become a Kashmir where the native Pandits have been driven out. Maybe that will make people like Ms Bhatt happy.

What's the motive of the article
by Uttam on Jan 13, 2005 08:07 AM

There have been a series of articles on Modi these days. They are neither objective, nor analytical.
Editor Sheela Bhatt and her colleagues seem to have an agenda to spread their opinion on Modi. You people are journalists. Why don't you take an extreme centre position on issues just like political articles in the Economist does.
I wish you people use Rediff platform to focus on unbiased reporting instead of carrying out subtle personal agenda.
If hate Modi campaign is in your blood, you better find a political job instead of doing disservice to journalism.

"Love Modi" or "Hate Modi" but you(media) can not leave Modi. I dont know how much this doctored document based on truth and inputs from credible source, but all in all a typical Masaala report from modern journos.
