The authors name is not revealed!
2.Why could India/Professor URRao & his associates of ISRO & others not detect the presence of the mysterious lake threatening Himachal using remote sensing satellite/Also, roadmaking activity by the PRC should have been discovered. If we do not have the capability to detect these activities it means our Space research has not lived up to the expectations!
3.While we cannot trust ANYONE the so called CBM's should proceed & brace ourselves for a showdown at anytime with anyone who threatens us!!

The article is very real and thought provoking. Living in the North East, I am able to see the sinister but well measured and long term plan by China.
The rest of India must take this seriously and cause and emotional integration of the people of the North East. Excepting the terrorists who find easy money and welcome in other places, no citizen in the North East supports insurgency from the heart. Instead many are tired of it but are too frightened to speak it out. They want that Delhi and the armed forces be steady and constant in their action and plan. Their unsteadiness makes the people suspicious. The people are sincere and detest insurgency. They ar longing for peace.
The Manorama incident in manipur and the much publicized protest of the nacked women was just a sham. None of them did it willingly. Thye were made to do it at gun point.

Can all the parties, the state governments in the North East and the central government, along with the army come to a determined and emphatic decision to end terrorism? If that is done, insurgency will be a thing of the past in this region in just 1 year. No more!

Short-sighted MEA.
by krishnan on Oct 04, 2004 05:56 PM

very pertinent article.one wonders if journalists(with limited resources compared to MEA officials) can think so clearly why arent our great "bright thinkers" not responding?even if they cant think for themselves cant they even read these articles?rediff & other media should send a paper copy to the PMO.our fat cats are looking for presents & plum postings;as we all know the freed of our fellow-indians is insatiable.
one can also ask wht our great ministry is doing about bangladesh & the rising fundamentalism there.we may recall that our paramilitary personnel were killed & hung from poles like animals.
china's aim is not to conquer india,as pointed out by a short sighted reader, but to render us powerless.again not only for territorial gains but economic gains.the chinese hunger for land is bcos of their maddenning population.probably they will start more mad-cap projects like the "three gorges".wonder why arent they blasing out the himalayas the stunted vermin???

Our leaders need to act more aggressively and proactively, not just on the defence and not just reacting to China's actions .
India need's to make it clear to Chna the moment evidence is found of Chinese involvement in India insurgecied it would reply with nukes on Chinese positions, might seem harsh but power demonstrated is powere achived.

Hi I agree with the columnist, but as long as india has stupid, corrupt politicians who cant understand what it means to think ahead India and its citizens will suffer. One musharaff is enoug to beat all our politicians to death when it comes to brinkmanship. Its time the electrotate thought of these things instead of subsidies to farmers and reservation to certain groups.
