Excellent article
by Janakinath on Oct 04, 2004 11:28 PM

A rare piece of superbly orchestrated article. It is but imperative upon India to think more and act more in the present world, where every nation is finding its strengths. India should make use of its excellent intellectual braintank, and come up with superior ideas, understanding other's moves swiftly. To achieve this goal, the union government should have clarity of purpose, clear rationale, clearing of alliance' cobwebs, and above all, honor and integrity of the country in heart!
Until then, such articles should keep on coming, and awaken the intelligentia, and the masses as well.

Ofcourse it is, just that India- the giant ostrich just loves to burry its head whenever there is trouble around. Years of slavery as lost all its lessons on the Indian Babu Machinery - thats the real "IBM" of India, and no wonder we are yet to do some real or serious coding as regards our so called brilliance in computers. Refusing to learn any lessons from the past,we have learnt more to get kicked after playing it up like a joker at the best and like a fool at the worst- classic examples are the Olympics and India-Pak One Dayers when the chips are down. To top it all, its done on the name of some high headed suedo philosophy, intellectualism, and an absurd and unhealthy spiritualism(read ritualism). Pakistan and China do by turns to India, what no other two nations did to another "great" nation. Sneak around to strike a passive nation oblivious to the game, keeping the victim busy, disminded and in a shaky orientation. Its high time, IBM(Indian Babu Machinery) and The National Security Council (NSC) stop shy of action,in the name of peace. If only we show more courage of conviction, will the future generation walk around with their heads high or will be beheaded soon. Act Now

Is China encircling India
by Abhik Ray Chaudhury on Oct 04, 2004 08:37 PM

Thanks to Rediff and Claude Arpi for this excellent article. Competition between India and China has been going on for several decades. However, it is China which always had a India policy that is focused and unchanged since the 50's. India, on the other hand, never had any definite China policy it seems(not to mention about a Bangladesh or Pakistan policy). To counter any Chinese threat, we need to continue what we are doing right now, that is the economic and other social reforms that will empower our mass within a short span of time. News of Chinese involvement in the NE does not worry me much, it only says that we are on the right track. All we need to do is to keep on strenghthening the economy, by whichever means we can. Thanks again

its time our leaders took notice
by Rajib on Oct 04, 2004 08:26 PM

The threat to India this time is real. This won't be a repeat of 1962.
The Chinese, know very well that a democratic pluralistic India will over time be a major rival of China. The idea that a democratic India has reached superpower status strikes at the very foundation of China. So for the time it will keep India distracted with its vague posturings of frienship and active meddling in her neighbourhood. The Chinese listening post in Coco islands just next to the Andamans, the building of naval ports in Bangladesh, Burma, Pakistan, military aid to Nepal are pointers to her policy of encirling India. More powerful and having immense resources at its command, the Chinese will ensure that India's back is broken, for once and for all.

Time to be pragmatic
by Santhosh on Oct 04, 2004 07:08 PM

Pt.Nehru has demonstrated the costs of being an idealist, quixotic and utopian w.r.t to foreign
policy. He had thoroughly failed us on Kashmir Issue, Indo-Pak and Indo-China relations handling.

Now inspite of history available to us, the current leadership should do much more than warming up to China. Wake UP guys to the reality, before its too late, as in 1962.

China should be the first priority in our foriegn relations and national security and defence should be beefed up accordingly. We have been in a proxy war with China since long. Sadly, we hoped its untrue and were sitting tight, while the red dragon has been hurling the balls of fire.

Strengh, Brain, Unity, National Pride are the factors for victory. India is far behind regards every facor may be except brain. But the brain is also divided in many religions & casts & regions.
