What can I say about USA when in Kahsmir...
by Vijay Sharma on Mar 23, 2004 09:13 AM

My friend Captain Mridul Sharma was martyred by terrorists, in an ambush on New Year's Eve this year, Whole Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh district was there for his funeral, but none of the national new papers or so called "independent Indian press" covered this event, except for some local newspapers. If it'd had some terrorists killed by army in Kashmir , every major news paper and media would have covered him to show Indian army atrocities especially human rights groups.
Bhagwan Shri Hari Narayan Bharat Ki Raksha Karen.
Jai Hind,
Vijay Sharma

Cricket between India & pakistan is always a great affair, especially if it is played after 15 years ,

Get Up, Stand Up - but unite

Powerful thing, this Nehruvian penalty. Rajeev can probably establish a statistical corelation between Nehru's last burp and Khem Singh's last gasp.

If Rajeev could only have written this column without any wild swipes at the remnants of the left, he would have done all of us an undiluted favour. Of course, and I hasten to add, he has done us a favour by bringing up the case in the first place. Wonder why the mainstream media doesn't find this newsworthy!

These are issues on which we need to unite, not to divide. We need to carry others with us, not to jump around with verbal Trishuls and say "we are more Indian than you leftist- pinkos". Are the government of the day and the ambassador(s) to the US pinkos? What will it take for the NRI community in the US to take up such cases aggressively? What is the best way for a reader in the US to do his or her bit? Is there something readers outside can do? Too many questions left unanswered.

There is an old saying

There was a distant cry and we ignored it saying it is in the next village

There was a cry in the neighbourhood and we said it does affect us

There was cry from our house and the neighbours said as it is not our house let us ignore it and the whole village was plundered.

Good luck to your cricket but remember the above story

How Khem Singh starved to death
by mahendra kothari on Mar 23, 2004 06:51 AM

Thank you for writing such good truth.
Indians are worthless people and that is why more people pay attention to cricket than humiliation suffered by
their own brothers, sisters, children.
I hope somebody guides us properly.

India's record of defending it's citizens
by KK on Mar 23, 2004 06:14 AM

"... and I wish the Indian government would take up the legal issue. However, we know full well that the Indian government will not do this"

Rajiv, this person is probably not even an Indian citizen. But what is even more shocking is that India has done NOTHING for the hundreds of thousands of victims of the Bhopal Holocaust that UCC inflicted on poor Indians & infact tried to scuttle their independent claims against this company by refusing to be a part of the claimants (the international law says that the govt must be a plaintiff, which the GOI refused to do). So the victims are still living on the original $300-$500 that each victim received (on paper) for a lifetime of suffering (and many lifetimes more as their children and grandkids were born with deformities).

Infact I had written to the famous Dateline NBC channel, who so much loves pitiable stories, asking them to make a program on the Bhopal Gas Holocaust and got back an automated mail saying that "We will consider this", about 2 years back (this was when Warren Anderson was found after hiding for some 10 years). Ofcourse, nothing happened, after all it is not in US's interests, even if thousands died elsewhere.

This article is in a very bad light and shows the entire America as bad. Very immature way to look at things. There no doubt is intolerance against Asians but that comprises a very small fragment of society. Saying that this article shows the "true picture of america" is very naive.

Just two days back an Australian tourist was stabbed in face by a taxi driver in Delhi.
How willyou react if the entire west makes an issue of it and starts portraying that as the face of tourism in India as a whole......

I dont think it is about religion. People are victimised all the time, in the name of religion sometimes.

I am a christian from India, I have felt equal outrage on behalf of both Muslims and Hindus. To blame it on religion is foolishness.

It is a matter of power. The US is a global power, they are primarily christian and it is inevitable that they show more support for Christians.

I have felt slighted as an Indian Christian and have been treated as a non-indian in India b'cos of my religion.

If India was a global power, Hindus would rule.
