which indians would that be
by rajan on Mar 24, 2004 09:13 AM

no indians murdered in gujarat got justice. even the ones burnt alive on the train. i assume you included these as well. Or may be since they were "hindu activists" they don't count. its funny with a particular brand of indian minorities, whenever miscarriage of justice is mentioned in the western world, out comes, oh but what about Gujarat, as if Indians don't have a right to point fingers at the west. and lastly jose thanks for the advice to hindus in your last sentence. but if you don't mind we will decide who should and shouldn't use our religion the way we want it to be.

Rajeev, how warped can you get?
by harv on Mar 24, 2004 05:18 AM

I have read many other articles of the author, but nothing has been as warped in logic and spews as much hatred as this one. Rajeev, please get one thing straight atleast: Language is but a tool, excellent ability to communicate does not do away with the need to be a balanced journo. And for all the anti-pseudo venom that you spout, this article clearly shows your hypocrisy: you are ready to ignore the crime of Mr.Singh, you are ready to turn a blind eye to explicit cases of justice being denied in India, but never cease to try to bring a connection between Muslims, Chinese, Socialists, and India's present condition In my opinion, it is the presence of such journalists and politicians like you, who are willing to deflect the attention of the society by spreading hatred of a community that has been the bane of India's problems. It has nothing to do with being a socialist, securalist, etc..your writings are clear indications that even self-proclaimed defendents of the "Hindu-India" like your esteemed self are capable of such bigotry. Today, it is the chinese and muslims, tomm who is it going to be? do you always need an enemy to seek attention? And I hope my comment is posted.

Keep it up.
by vivekt on Mar 24, 2004 01:22 AM

This is my second comment on this article. I am commenting after reading a few replies. I think, this is for the first time that some jouralist has dared to comment on reality. I have always wondered that how come the media(indian) is so prompt in crying when some minority is attacked (which is what they should do) and not enthu at all when the case is other way around. Author has listed a few examples as well. I would like to add one more to that list. The issue of Kashmiri pandits. Everybody is talkin about human rights of kashmiris and how army is violating those. But how many people we see talking or writing about the pandits who were butchered and driven away. Everybody is in for giving special rights to J&K (article 370) because it favors minority but does anyone has guts to say no to that because it is unfair to the rest of the country. When some one opposes that he is termed as communal. So taking side of minority is considered secular and talking about fairness and equality is communal.
I think the author has expressed a very good point of view. I must congradulate the author for wrting this piece (especially in a media where bashing majority is considered fashion)

Death of Khem Singh
by Inderpal on Mar 23, 2004 11:35 PM

Dear Sir,

I have read your article ' How Khem Singh starved to Death' on Rediff.com . I thank you for writing this article.
We should have had more editor's/ writer's in India write on this human tragedy . The day Indians stand up
to defend their dignity worldwide , will see the world look positively at Indians.

I feel very sad and angered on the fate that met the elderly Sikh priest , Khem Singh. I have also read
elsewhere ,that at the time of his death Khem Singh weighed less than 80 pounds due to starvation .
Justice may or may not be bought to the perpetuators of this inhuman act . But such is the way of natural
justice, that whichever fate / religion / community these violators come from , they will one day sooner than
latter have to answer to their Gods for their sins .

You rightly say that the civil rights cottage industry are people whose heart does not beat for justice for the
common Indian . But then a billion Indians do not need these self styled civil right activists to defend their
rights . It needs Indians like you and me.

We as Indians must see that no EFFORT is lost in bringing to justice the perpetuator of this crime against
a frail 72 old Sikh priest of Indian origin, no matter in whichever part of the world we have to fight for justice .
A land where injustice is done, like is done to Khem Singh can neither be called ' the land of the free and
the home of the brave' until justice is done fairly in that land .

Hi Shanu, I'm shocked, and curious - where did you pick up the information? If it's true, Rajeev should immediately apologize and withdraw the column - unless Khem Singh still reminds him of his father.

Both of you are CRAZY! Even though Khem Singh was convicted of child molestation, is that any reason for the prison to starve a man to death? To ignore his medical needs when he was in pain from a cell door being smashed on his hand, by the supervising officer? This is a case of racial discrimination! A catholic priest was sentenced four years on probation for a hit and run that resulted in the death of an innocent bystander. Khem Singh was sentenced 27 years to life! What kind of justice is this? And you two are talking about how his actions(nobody even knows if he did anything to children) are worthy of such torture.

This article is once again the end product of sick analogy. Your warped mind needs a different job buddy....pity to know rediff hires neo facists and neo journalists who write articles to tweak the minds of people with junk articles. Yur only agenda seems to play to the right wing gallery in the country... isn't it Rajiv ?

Get real
by Ashish on Apr 07, 2004 09:05 PM
The quantity of mercy is restrained, isn't it. Just that I would'nt waste time and bytes on a case like this. That's one angle. The big thing is that THE CHARGE AGAINST KEM SINGH WASN'T MENTIONED in the article. That's shoddy/ unethical.

You wanna start a big campaign for the rights of Hindus accused of child molesting? I wouldn't be surprised.
