Mr.Mahajan's comment on Rahul and Priyanka
by Arpan Ray on Feb 02, 2004 05:53 PM

By uttering such remarks, Mr.Mahajan loses his credential as a progressive leader of next generation. The remarks typically reflect any tom-dick-harry uneducated politician and not that of Pramod Mahajan as we knew till date.

Rahul, Priyanka
by A. P. Singh on Feb 02, 2004 05:52 PM

They may be Indian but should not be entrusted with the responsibility of the highest offices of the Prime Minister or President because of their mixed parentage.

As is the case with the people working in MEA they are not allowed to marry a foreign national if they are working in Foreign Services because of security reasons. If marry they are required to quit the job.

Now how can we compromise with the security of the Nation by providing such office to a foreigner with an Indian Nationality or to offsprings of mixed parentage.

I totally endrose Mr. Pramod Mahajan's view.

Priyanaka & Rahul are indian
by Natarajan on Feb 02, 2004 05:48 PM

This topic is little bit cheesy when we talk in the discussion form. This is my views - as long as any person who is born Indian, he can uphold any top position in the govt service. As for as (Rahul & Priyanka) are concerned they are born Indian citizen. Their father Mr. Rajiv Gandhi was a born Indian citizen & he was holding PM position in India.

I would also like to illustrate one strong statement is that any person who is not a born Indian citizen cant hold any top govt position / service, even though (he/she) takes a Indian Citizenship. This logic is followed in every country & as for as India is concerned we have billion Indian to select a PM rather than Ms Sonia Gandhi. There should be a clause in Indian constitution that the top govt position should be hold by the born Indian citizen ship and not by any one else.

Rahul

Mere Indianness is not enough.
by chanakya on Feb 02, 2004 05:45 PM

They have to work hard to prove that they are both worthy of a confidence of the masses;

they have to both develop themselves into cherished leaders before becoming matured politicians.

Congress has matured politicians in abundance.

However, there is nowadays a dearth of cherished leaders among the safed topis.

Yes, They r as much Indian as Pramod Mahajan
by A citizen of India on Feb 02, 2004 05:34 PM

The comments of Promod Mahajan are really unfortunate.

Priyanka,Rahul,Omar Abdullah..all are as much indian as Pramod Mahajan.

Ultimately, it is the capability and ability of them that matters.Let the people of the country decide their fate through elections.

BJP really has a major problem-They believe more in making personal attacks.

So for God sake, we have got enought of division of India caste basis, religion basis...BJP better learn to bind people together rather than finding opportunities to hurt and criticise other fellow countrymen.

Lastly it is the thinking of the person that matters, Do you want to say that all Indian with Indian Parents are very patriotic & never indulge in anti-social activities. So why this discrimination?

You,consider NRI living abroad, who frankly speaking has nothing to do with India as Indians ( may be true indians) but not those who are working here in India itself and contributing to the Indian Society as much as they can.

Shame!!!better think before pointing finger on people's nationality.

For you "Promod Mahajan Ji" it may be just another comment, but it may hurt someother person to an extent you can't imagine.

by anurag on Feb 02, 2004 05:20 PM

sir, although what india needs is a good leader,i strongly agree with mr.pramod mahajan.but it is very much wrong to project priyanka or rahul as foreigners because they are only half-foreigners and they still have the blood of mr.rajiv gandhi in them.

Citizenship and Occupation of higher poition
by Gangadhar on Feb 02, 2004 05:07 PM

As per the present indian constitution there is no levels in citizenship. Our costitution has to be ammended to define a different levels of citizenships. There must be distinction between citizenship and residentship, we can permit the others for residentship but not for citizenship, residentship is something like a green card holder in US who is not eligible to vote and have the eligibility to occupy the higher positions.

No wonder if we loose our freedom once again incase we allow the the same constitution to continue without any ammnednet for occupying the higher position.I mean any one may be terrorist can get a citizenship(eg.marrying a Indain girl)and occupy the higher position and become one more Hitler!
