ARR is great
by LOL on Oct 20, 2011 01:50 PM

But his predecessor Illayaraja (IR) is the best. ARR scored a lot for Hindi films that had so much exposure, but IR did not have that opportunity in his prime time. The change that IR brought to the music industry cannot be matched by ARR's legacy. But ARRs style appeals to more people in India even though in terms of number of compositions, rate of delivery and the quality and consistency, IR stands (still) several steps above the rest...

Definitely he was knwon for his music in film Roja. Other music actually followed. Though he is one of the best composer, but, I have a feeling that all his compositions are of one type.

few more classics missed out

I guess Yuvaraj and Thakshak are two of the finest compositions of Rahman, apart from the mentioned albums. Sad to see that they are not in the top ten.

Rahman's best
by SX on Oct 20, 2011 01:33 PM

Rahman's best work has undoubtedly been in Tamil. They are albums which not many know off but these above compositions are hardly a patch on the Rahman of 1990s.. Anyways in Hindi/Tamil in terms of background score Roja stays arguably the best.. no wonder its amongst the best BGMs of all time by times New York...

Best AR Rahman score for a Hindi film you mean ?!!
by geby jacob on Oct 20, 2011 01:30 PM  | Hide replies

I hope you know that Rahman composes in Tamil and other languages as well.. If Rediff was considering only Hindi film music, it was a big bummer to have missed out Taal & Lagaan.. if u were talking about his music across all languages, I cannot even begin to imagine that you missed out on Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, Thiruda Thiruda.. VTV is an album forever with each track refusing to leave ur mind.. For those of you who haven't heard the album, please try to get urself a copy.. Rockstar was brilliant undoubtedly; but if you ask me what my fav Rock track by Rahman so far is, then it undeniably will be AAROMALE from VTV.. Please give it a listen to understand the genius that Rahman is..
