People who have seen the movie say it is not against the reservation system. It is unfortunate that even naming a film Arakshan can create so much controversy, imagine what might happen if some one really makes a serious film over reservations in our country today. Our politicians have created so much hatred amongst ourselves that today we happen to be the most pathetic country.

It's more than politics. People do not want to loose the short-cut they have got accustomed to.

Have you seen any OBC living below human dignity? What about the riches of Meenas, Yadavs, Kurmis and Patels which are certainly more than those of brahmins in most of the states?

very poor movie..
by Manoj vyas on Aug 13, 2011 01:25 PM  | Hide replies

The movie Arakshan is just an idiotic attempt to falsefully portraying society and mislead the facts..

Prakash jha and Amitabh are both ambitious shrude businessmen.. the movie clearly indicates they are strictly into a cheap commercial activity by provocating shocking contents..

the movie is pathetic, with disgusting crude dialogues, badly directed and leaves no social message instead creates more confusion in the present young generation who are completely unaware of Indian history and present socio-economical setup in India..

also say no to fake 'merits', abolish caste system, and distribute the disproportionate money equally in all the Indians to remove financial equality.

Make a film about shitting in the open and catch instant
by piri on Aug 13, 2011 11:28 AM

attention and box office success !

Understood from an article that the director of 'Aarak..." is one Mr. Prakash Jha. Also understood that Mr.Prakash Jha managed a PR coup for his mediocre film by naming it 'Aarak...'.

But, if attracting widespread condemnation and threats and the resultant public attention is the purpose, there really can be no better method than to make a true-to-life film on open defecation in India !!

Between 60 and 65 % of Indians shit in the open for want of access to proper toilets. If a film on this is made without fear of retribution, then that movie will invite attention from not only the 'celebrities', politicians, media houses, etc, but also from most middle class Indian commoners too ! For, the middle class Indians live in a make beleive world that is supposed to mean that India is developing furiously and on its way to shortly becoming a superpower !!

stand on policy
by Critic on Aug 13, 2011 08:36 AM  | Hide replies

Point is Reservation should have deadline, and it should be based on Financial Backwardness not just a caste.
Second important point is once a person takes the help of reservation; like he got job in Govt. office with good salary then their family members should not get benefit of reservation. Similarly if any student got admission in Medical College or an Engineering college, with basis of reservation now don't offer him a job on basis of reservation, now let them work hard and score good marks to get job. If you offer concession for everything then there is injustice with other deserving candidate, who may be equally financially backward

Reservation should be on 2 criteria simulatenously - CASTE and INCOME. Not Income alone or Caste alone.

I think we failed to understand the constitution. In that clearly mentioned that, those who are weak in both Economical and as well as social they will avail the reservation. you are talking about only economical. But in social system casteism still prevails. It is a psychological phenomenon. We need to completely eradicate the caste system psychologically. For this we can say "If caste is a decease, Reservation is a medicine." and "Reservation is not for charity it is for parity."

No stand on the policy...disappointing
by Critic on Aug 13, 2011 08:35 AM

As rightly said, movie is big disappointment. In fact they were contradicting their own stand. In the end they shown whatever students learn in college is not enough and they have to go to extra classes if they want to gain more marks.

Lot of socio-economical issues was completely missing. In metro cities you do not see any discrimination based on caste; here you will see rich and poor of both the caste. There is chunk of people who may be from backward caste, but now financially strong, why they opt for quota and there are lots of poor people but from so called upper caste do not get any assistance. There should be some stand in the movie that how long the reservation should be provided, this is 64th year of independence, but still Congress govt. fight with same issue of Roti, Kapda & Makaan and still able to win election with huge margin. I'll give you example of Ms. Meira Kumar, our loksabha speaker, she born with golden spoon, she is daughter of India's deputy prime minister, why the hell she need a quota and what dalit life she spend on behalf of which she asks for dalit quota. Instead someone who really lives dalit life should be promoted so that he can help his community to rise.
Even in day to day life, we see lot of people from so called backward class are now become financially sound, most of them are in govt. service, and with reservations they got quick promotions, like all the other govt. officers they are also equally corrupt and plus with 6th pay commi
