Ilayaraja is the real king of melodies. His songs and BGM touch the heart and soothe the nerves (unlike the new comers' loud noises which create ear pain). One forgets the world and all worries when he listens to the music of maestro. In that way, he has helped crores of people forget their stress and enjoy life. Long live Isaignani !
my favourite bgm's are anjali (which makes me cry al al alwaysss) and the brilliant nayagan..who can forget the scene when kamal first see his son's dead boday....ayyo God simply gr8..

one more on the BGM, is the move 'Amaithipadai' where Ranjita being chased by Satiyaraj, only flute used. Most people will mistake it for Veena.
He practically redefined Indian filim music not tamil music alone His western style approach with symphony sounds of violins, professional bass guitar scales blending them with wind instuments created a sort of unheard sounds in filim music In personal conversations with vetran RD assistants even RD was amazed by Rajas speed, balancing, and choice of instuments for a song Routine Raja day Morning 7 score written, each leader takes his score h(violin, rhythm, bass, wind) Rehearse, learn and record all over by 2pm.Only handicap very short tempered,King size ego towards later half of his peak resulting in repeatition, staleness and tiff with producers like Mani Ratnam, KB,and Bharati raja and others otherwise till date no one God Bless Him

Wasn't OP Nayyar in the 50's 60's and RD Burman 70's 80's did the same. Nevertheless Illayaraja music are always unique and melodious

RD introduced Latin Rhythms in Indian filim music OP was different with western influencence on voice (Asha Bhonsle) and band music Go back no music director got violins sound different and so western and yet Indian Raja was first one Also chords in guitar for folk songs Another first whatever said I prfer him to others He should have receieved award for PAA BGM Recall violin run amazing
Raja "writes" music - in the sense that he literally writes, on western-style score sheets, the notes of *all* the instruments that he uses for a song. Imagine someone "visualising" a song just through the notes, the way the instruments need to play his notes, the timing and synchronisation of the various sounds. This is mind-boggling. How could anyone, without a divine sense of music do this? Raja is one-of-a-kind, and I don't think anyone in India can do what he does in such an effortless way.

absolutely, the remarkable thing is that the entire process takes place in such quick time that others can only be at awe at this composer par excellence.
Thalaiva, we have been totally dried up with lack-of-quality music these days. We are eagerly waiting for your next movie album 'Azhagarsamy in Kudhirai'.
Illayaraja's composing was once shown in tv. He gives different instruments to a big group of musicians. Raja then keeps a small stick in his right hand. He makes them to start slowly and he points with his stick who should play next. In this manner he quickly points to everyone and different music is performed and recorded. Whereas ARR is a software music engineer and makes the computer to generate the music.

haha..pls do not reveal your ignorance..the usage of computers is to speed up the composing...the basic raaga and tunes have to be composed first...the computer is not a random raaga generating device...YOu still like to live in stone age?...

Sorry Mr Sriram Yes I am ignorant about music I do not understand what you mean by saying computers speed up composing Visit any studio(audio)you will find Pro Tools,Cubase,Logic, and Reason music softwares,Sample bags(vienna orchestra) for violin Battery for rhythm and Base Trilogy Do they keep this for show?Who cares about Ragas combine it will fall into some Raga.ARR uses Pro tools extensively It is more about technicals than raga, tala, layam etc
