Re: Re: Re: Ilayaraja is a pathetic music director
by shibu Chenthamarakshan on Sep 21, 2010 12:27 PM
His tunes are based on the cartatic & folk which was suitable for the tamil films produced during his time. Now the time has changed and he couldnt stand up to the pace of the current generation.
The facts that makes IR a legend, - He does not associate himself with big shots to get the recognition - He does not always go for big banner movies and ignore small budget films - Perhaps the only music composer who is cabale of making the movie a box office success through his music
He is an innovator not someone who just work for money.

Read it properly. I said 'not someone who JUST work for money'. He focus on giving quality music and does not sell music for money. You like it or not, thats the truth.
Re: Ilayaraja as Singer
by pkr ramesh on Sep 21, 2010 01:33 PM
It is true One of my friend asked him why do you want to sing?your range is poor at times does not sound nice Raja said I agree it is not nice but producers insist bec couple of songs which i reluctently sang became hit songs and movies a big hit In an Industry which runs on sentiments i am forced sing atleast title songs Otherwise he is a reluctent singer
A well written article. Raja never knew how to market himself. His style of music is very unique. A highly original composer who writes notations for each and every instrument. Very difficult to reproduce his compositions on the stage unless accompanied by real instruments. Long Live Raja Sir and his music.

His Ego was his enemey Otherwise he would have ruled Indian film music as a Rajadhi Raja Bad luck for us

Main reason for his current downfall is his arrogance. On all his interviews he tried to demonstrate his knowledge in Music. Actually no need to do that bcoz we all know Raja is capable of.

Yep, the man has a big EGO...thats why he parted ways with his best friend Bharathirajja and later Maniratnam..that did augur well for the music industry...bcoz thats why AR came into the field with Mani's ROJA.

That is what happens when you surround yourself with syncophants, producers (who give you money)fall at your feet makes one loose balance That is what ails great composer Raja

from the 80s till the 90s beginning he scored music for almost 75% of the tamil films which will make a good amount of money. But he struggled financially during his venture Thiruvasakam. This one I read one article in a magazine in 2005

It's real, Mr. Ramesh. He is a man blessed by God to rule the world by his music but it's unfortunate that he has failed to derobe his ego and inferior complex and do not inititae to market his music as other fellows do. Also directors like Maniratnam & Bharathiraja who were elevated to fame simply because of the hits he gave in his films, ditched him in the later years. Where are those people? God is there to see that those ditchers will never get back their earlier glory. Raja is still shining and will continue to shine. Onething is clear! One can't blacken somebody's talent. It'll at any cost come to the fore. Raja is a great example for this. He will rule the music world till his last breath. Long live, Raja sir!

You forgot the posters of 80s and 90s . All the film posters having Rajas smiling face. Is that not a marketing?

Where is the sinister director Balachander now. Without Ilayaraja's music Balachander, Bharathiraja and Mani Ratnam's movies did not fare well. Whereas Ilayaraja still has a fan following
His music is truly genuine (unlike arrahman) and not copied ones. His son Yuvan shankar raja's music is surely world class but he somehow remains underrated. Am sure he ll win accolades some day !
Re: Long live the KING of uncopied music !
by shibu Chenthamarakshan on Sep 21, 2010 11:27 AM
Your comments about Yuvan Shankar Raja really made me laugh. thank you

by pkr ramesh on Sep 21, 2010 11:24 AM
Yuvan is poor mans ARR No where near his dad IR is IR compare IR with MSV,RD,SD,SJ,LP.etc
Whenever an article about AR or IR appears, people start taking sides. Well for me, both are legends in their own way, and they should not be compared at all.

by JeyaPrasath VC on Sep 21, 2010 10:18 AM
Good appraisal of both. And Harris Jayaraj also may be considered next to them in the modern era music...
Re: Re: IR and AR

Harris,ARR along with IR? Crazy Bullock carts can never become race cars Keep hoping.First let them complete 450 films ha,ha,ha me comparing with sachin as a cricketer!!!
HE IS THE MAESTRO OF MUSIC AND NONE CAN COME CLOSE TO HIM AND PARTICULARLY IN TELUGU HIS NUMEROUS MELODIES ARE STILL SO SOOTHING TO HEAR.HIS WORK IN MOVIES LIKE ABHINANDANA WAS REALLY REMARKABLE
Re: ILAYARAJA THE MAESTRO
by hegdesai on Sep 21, 2010 03:29 AM
Well said, my friend. There is no one near to him in today's India to give wonderful melodious songs like him. I am surprised when people are comparing Ilayaraja with some copy masters, living on Arabic, western, Eastern and African music, depending on the modern electronics for their support and winning awards with copied tunes form all around. This is a computer era. Using computer based instruments has become very normal in today's world. Watch American channels. Even 10 year old children are bringing out good tunes (not generating) from these computerised instruments and keyboards. Let the so called music wizards produce melody through the real string and air instruments as what Raja is doing. If they compete in doing so, then we can accept them as music wizards and take them for comparing with the musical Maestro Ilayaraja. Otherwise, please don't compare any Tom, Dick and Harry with the great mucician of all times Ilayaraja, who in correct words, is ruling this filmdom for more than 30 years. Long live Raja, Sir!

DO not justify the inability of IR to use the modern technology to compose music..he cudnt put up, hence he is history....
Re: ARR n Harris the living legends
by OtrumaiVaendumNammavarkku on Sep 21, 2010 12:40 AM
Never compare a genuine and a copy. Harris is like a Chinese version of Finland's mobile!
Will be cheap. Doesnt come with patent or guarentee. It will not last long! Harris=Deva=D.Imman=DSP=Manisharma! The latest in this list is Vidhyasagar! Hear "Hey Dushyanta" of Asal and "Hey Ishq" from Jab we met!(Original Hindi version of Kandaen Kadhalai)
