Complete Visual Treat!!!!

First half of the movie is good and interesting. Second half is excellent especially final 30 minutes of action sequences are mind-blowing. Shankar teams up with Rajnikanth to make this logic-defying entertainer that appeals to every movie lover around. The plus points are Shankar’s story telling, Rajnikanth’s charishma and extremely imaginative special effects/ animatronics. The flipside is that a few number of scenes are logic-less as it is supposed to be science fiction like mosquitoes scene and many songs in second half that breaks the story. Robot is the best special effects film ever made in India and is definitely India’s answer to Hollywood in terms of both special effects and imagination. Go and watch it.
My rating is 4/5.

The correct perspective
by pravin sundararaman on Oct 04, 2010 11:58 AM  | Hide replies

Rather than blaming the film or it makers for things that were not there, lets appreciate this side of the story - (1) the paradox of a machine not in sync with human emotions and the human beings behaving like machines in most ordinary situations in life is depicted well in the 1st half (2) man craves to promote artificial intelligence when his natural one is flawed (3) its not always possible to bring out a directors / actors best with the commercial success of a film.
The film has relied too much on graphics or heavy action sequences - but how else you appease the kids audience.
I wud say its a good film in which, yet again, a director was constrained by the 3 hour time frame

If the mosquito scene and a beach attempt to rape scene is deleted the film would have been racier and a feeling of bore after a fast first half could have been averted.

why do you think the media is mis-reporing?
Understandable no frenzy among non-tamil viewers!! as they cannot understand the south indian entertainment magnitude..its huge and incredible as technically speaking the cinema down south has grown by leaps and bounds!!!!

All I am saying is that if you are not a Rajni fan (which 95% Indians are not), there is nothing in the movie that excites. I mean it. I have seen the Hindi Robot in a Mumbai multiplex with less than 50 people in it.

Dude same thing for Sharukh or Amitabh. There's no "frenzy" down here. To be honest, Rajni frenzy covers just about the entire South and sizeable numbers of people in the metropolitans. Then going abroad you have Singapore, Malaysia and of course US, UK, Australia, etc.

Now for Sharukh or Amitabh it's the same except NOT ALL Indian metropolitans and no Singapore, Malaysia, etc. SO WHO WINS?

Its all economics. If Rajni gets paid 45 crores it means the revenue he generates justifies producers paying that kind of money.

No one creates movies out of charity.

If SRK or Old man AB can generate that kind of reveneue they would also be paid as much as Rajni.

Since they do not command that kind of money generation ability, they have to be satisfied with 1 crore if they are lucky.

they can earn more by sending their daughter in law to sleep with Rajni on screen...like AB sends Aishwarya.

Rajni is making sure that Hindiwallahs old king AB is also happy so out of Rajni's kindness he is letting AB's bahu to entertain Rajni.

You northies should be glad that Rajni is kind enough to allow Amitabh's bahu to play with Rajni, you thankless northies.

This is same as the olden days, when North Indian kings were made to helplessly watch as their bahu and daughters were made to go to Mughals emperors to entertain them...while North Indian men waited like sentries and watchmen outside the palaces of Mughals.

so nothing new about what is happening today. Bollywood king is sending his bahu to South Indian emperor to earn some 'hard earned' money.

This was overdone. Excessive special effects get tiring past a point. Simple dumbed down story for the front benchers.

Only thing is that it has Rajinikanth in it. Else no one would bother.

if it was did by a hollywood director u will appreciate. u people r not praising that this is the first time in indian cinema with good computer graphics instead u simply criticising them as if so many directors and producers tried this in our system. how many people have tried this kind of film b4 in our indian film?

Utter rubbish and IDIOTIC MOVIE OF THE YEAR. Waste of time and money, except for the ever-beautiful Ash.

Even the so-called 'special' effects are amateurish and childish.Looked more like a kid's video game.
