Movies are all about how close they are to human experience, and Hurt locker does it. It captures the hostile Iraqi landscape, the addiction of action, and the instincts for survival.
Good Indians movies come in malayalam, for those who're interested can checkout- Kireedam by Mohanlal, was remade into hindi and other languages, but none came a mile close to capture the same simplicity and beauty of the story. Mohanlal won national award. Malyalam movie industry is a place where they may try to make movies like Hurt Locker, rest of the India still have a long long way to catch up.
Mr. raja Sen where are you hiding your face? You got it completely wrong as you ever do. This is not bollywood to throw the awards to the so called superstars always. This is hollywood, the critics and the academy got the ratings right. Avatar was overrated and hyped movie. Technically it was excellent. But, "The hurt locker" completely deserves every bit of oscar. It keeps you in the edge of the seat for 2hrs. Hurt Locker completely depends on performance & screenplay. Avatar was compeletely depending on Technology.

On the edge of the seat? I fell asleep watching it! Avatar, Completely dependent on technology? Go watch the making, you'll know. There was a one year training period for the actor and actress. :) But you didn't know that, did you? :)

Really the competition was between AVATAR and HURT LOCKER. Here's why the later won:
AVATAR - Anti-American, Anti-establishment, Anti-capitalism, Pro environmental. Makes US forces look bad. Similar to dances with wolves that already some time ago.
HURT LOCKER - Pro american, Enforces the notion that American are guardians to the world, Pro war (see the last scene). Woman director (it's been a while).

Mr. Dona, Actually its the reverse, Avatar was overrated and hyped movie. Technically it was excellent. But, Hurt locker deserved every bit of oscar. It keeps you in the edge of the seat for 2hrs. Hurt Locker completely dependents on performance & screenplay. Avatar was compeletely depending on Technology.

Here comes a movie critic as good as Roger Ebert. Go & see what critics have to say about Hurt Locker & Avatar. I agree, Avatar is a milestone in the history of world cinema with respect to technology for which it got the Oscar. But, Hurt Locker completely dependents on performance & screenplay which is what you want to win best director, picture, screenplay category.

LOL man. Stop watching movies now! You didn't even get THE HURT LOCKER! The end is supposed to be depressing! The last scene is not glorifying the guy -- it's showing a horrible fact that he feels at home in the war zone! It's as anti-war as they come. Perhaps you failed to understand!
