there is a big anti-mani ratnam group, who are hell bent on putting down Raavan. These people would not be so much up in arms if Raavan had been directed by some other person.
This is typical to the Indian mentality - grab chance to put down anyone successful. Probably they were all boiling inside when Mani's successes were paraded during this film's promos. Once they got a sense that this movie could be criticized (probably a tad fair in some areas) they are all over the place.
These are the same set of people criticizing Sachin Tendulkar because he can't win all the matches :)

this movie is no entertainement....picture post card stuyle jungle shots are too much and boring. long drawn out dialogues on good and evil. vikram and bachachan boy look artificial. can't teach acting to wooden actors. aishwarya cries loud as never before..that is no acting. very much an uninvolving film. asheem chabra writes publicity for films.we know your work... raavan can never be good and raam is god. what is mani ratnam on to? so boring i must say honestly. i have liked some of mani's other films, but not this.

I think your opinion is not true. The movie is not good except for the great photography. Same Maniratnam did very well in Dalapthi which is inspired by the story of Karna from Mahabharata. But in this movie, the story is not tight and probably to satisfy Aryans and Dravidians in this modern story, Maniratnam didnt make an honest movie. Most disappointing is depicting the Anti-Socials as more ethical than the Cops is not convincing and is not correct.
This crap movie wil be the best flop.If Its their best work, u can judge the other movies. Not even a single Mani fan has said its a good movie. At best, they giv avg rating for this.Actually for a common man its a crap movie.
Can't say about Abhi & Ash (they are yet to set any benchmark in cinema), but this is definitely the worst movie from Maniratnam stable. Except for the cinematographer, everything is below par. But guess we don't go to movie to see good photography only...do we? So much of money spend...why not people spend a little bit more on the story, plot & dialogues??? Mani is loosing his touch. Not even Rahman could redeem him in this picture.
Every Indian who watched this film only has one word to say BAKWAS OF 2010, a time and money wasted and this fool is praising and wasting rediffs space, wonder why rediff is publishing this false reviews, 4 stars he's given a JOKE OF 2010
