The first half of the movie is very simlar. Even the second half too.
(1) The suicide plot where RAJU(ALOK in 5PS) jumped from the roof and survived is similar to the book .
(2) The stealing plot of the question paper from the Dean's room is similar to the book. Rancho(Hari in 5PS) managed to get the keys from his girlfriend before that(Dean's daughter).
(3)Rancho went into Dean's house at night to see his girlfriend with the help of his friends. This is also similar.
(4) The drunk Raju(alok in 5PS) attending the class is also similar.
The screenplay writer has extended the last part thru the marriage of rancho and pia(which is not there in the book). Rancho is not real name of that character. It is someone else. It is also done for the sake of screenplay.
The most Height of exaggeration of the movie:- Have you counted how many hours it took to arrive in Ladakh on a single day. The last plot in ladakh still have daylight. While they raju and Farhan went to shimla. From shimla they went to Manali. From Manali they went to Ladakh.Before this Farhan got down from the aeroplane. Went to raju's house . But at the end of the movie ladakh is still under daylight. They have all done it in a single day , mind it, bacause ramalingam(their second topper) has one day in hand to prove his excellence over rancho who is basically funshuk wangdoo. Another exaggeration, how can funshuk wangdoo became a scientist without any degree?? the degree belongs to ranchordass mind it.

The movie is very much exaggerated of the real contents of the book.My support goes with chetan bhagat. They should have given the original author's creadit to chetan bhagat.

I guess CB should have asked for it while signing the contract of selling the book(story). He got what he asked and agreed upon.

Enjoy the success of 3 idiots but don't drag SRK's name in the controversy. Rediff message board is such a pain to read. There are few idiots with fake ids such as Kool dude who write shit about srk on every story. If SRKs film becomes a hit they say its a fake story.If anyone else film becomes a hit they start challenging SRK. If it flops (such as most of akshy kumar starers) they write its SRK's paid reviewers who are doing this. SRK is very talented, hardworking and honest actor and no matter what u write..he will always rule the heart of his fans. God bless you all.Hope all is well in your life

Abhijat can't speak in meadia..how can he defend himself.If he has done the writing work..he should come forward and defend himself rather other defendiong him.. he is bog Jhoota. the basic fact that idion CB sold the rights at very less money, now since the movie is making a lot money it is itching him. CB idiot of the first order, there should be another movie called 4 idiots
Aamir you need to know that more than the credit for the movie the issue is the ticket prices in Multiplexes isnt that a bigger worrying factor you act as a perfectionist and these Multiplex owners misuse it......

Why u have to drag SRK every time, can't you just enjoy good movie whether it belogns Aamir or SRK or Akshay
I have read the book 'five point some one' and also seen the movie. There is no doubt that the movie is based on the book. It is irrelevant as to how much percentage of the book is the movie. The producers of the movie should be sporting enough to acknowledge at the start of the film that the movie is based on the book. Thank you.

once the rights of the books are bought by the producers, they will, and they alone will decide what credit to be given to the author of the book and whether it should be at the beginning or at the end of the movie. the screen writer will get priority over the book writer, as far as a movie is concerned without doubt.
I went to this movie with lots of hesitation but I was hearing good reviews from everyone and when I returned I was like elated. I enjoyed every minute of the movie. I normally do not do it or even believe in it but I can go to watch this movie second time.
Good Movie and Aamir Khan rocks so do his two buddies, Madhavan and Sharman. Best was mm.
Boring book by a boring writer the book is absoltuley crap the movie is far better sucker is looking for free credit must be wishing that he wrote better
sicko is saying so that people read his book its bloody 99 rs thats the case for sales as we like to keep books on our shelves. 90% of people i met hv no idea on what is in it on their shelves crapppy guy this chetan
