There is lobby. Why Mr Amitab missed award for The Last lear? Why nobody gave him a recognition. Do not people understand good acting. The way Jenniffer Kapoor lost an award for 36 Chowringhee Lane/ Pls comment

Re: Not fair. Last year Malayalam film, this year Tamil got best
by Devin Aaron on Sep 12, 2009 04:18 AM
Blah blah blah.
Dude, don't cry over spilled milk and don't be a hypocritical fan either. If ther is IIFA why there ar not "indian" films and why arnt there "international" films. Correct if i am wrong, those ar the first 2 words of "bollywood's" most prestigous award right. Wht ur sayin can be applied to this situation too, bt cut the bull w.stars being mobbed. No one cares about that except for fanatic fans like you.

Ther's no such thing as global icon and especially bollywood put together w.tht word. Try to be humble and see thers more global icons then an actor.

Evn laurence olivier said tht films ar inferior to theatre and hugh grant thinks of celebrity culture as despicable. Comin to india, nasserudin shah associated bollywood w.the word nausea and nd always ther for audience like you.

Its only movies, not stars discovering penicillin. Bollywood fans complain why their own favorite actor/actress does not win in their own awards, now you complain about movies and actors whom u hav not heard or languages tht you do not know despite being an indian. LOL!! Get a life.

You must have been sleeping, the oscars didn't evn nominate TZP in the final four nd thts done long time ago. Now, the national awards did not give TZP best film, best director, best actor, best film in hindi(rather it went to 1971). Wake up, its not a big deal, anyways TZP got all the awards at the bollywood awards show, so why ar u complaining.

there are numerous better movies than TZP in tamil, not dealing with the so called 'reality'. sound commenrcial movies.

TZP might be the best movie in decades in hindi , not in other industries.

you guys dont have a clue about what good cinema is supposed to be. Agreed TZP is better than usual bolly masala, but that doesnt make it any special as compared to quality mvoies that other industries produce.

Kanjeevaram won Nat'l award, Govt will send Bolly movie to oscar
by exoticbronze on Sep 09, 2009 07:41 AM

Fantastic south Indian directors create a classic and beat Hindi masala item girl movies.

But I&B ministry will send some Bollywood masala movie as India's entry to the Oscars the next year. There will be huge excitement created in North India about that Bollywood movie. Not one channel will question why the south Indian movie which won the national award was not sent.

Then on awards nigt at the oscars Indian entry as always gets no award! north Indian channels will scream 'Discrimination' and claim that our 'Global icon' Bollywood item girls and stars are not given Oscar by Goras because they have double standards against Indians.

Little will any Bollywood director or actor or News Channel speak about 'Double standards' within India which discriminates against sending the South Indian movie that won the 'national award' to the Oscars.

It will be the same story all over again.

Watch out guys...let the fun begin!

Title is wrong
by Mahesh Iyer on Sep 09, 2009 02:54 AM  | Hide replies

The article is labeled wrong. How can they say that South sweeps awards when quite a few other states have got awards? This is purely media sensationalism. Infact, traditionally there are states like Manipur, Sikkim, MP, Orissa & Rajasthan that don't even get in to the radar of the awards committee. And not being disrespectful to any state here, there are indeed a decent set of Hindi films that surprisingly lost out.

lol...yes quite a few states from the north also got National awards. That is because there are national awards for best film of each industry (Best Gujarati film, Best Bengali film etc).

The most prestigious, and competitive award, in any 'reputed' film awards (Indian National Awards, or Oscar etc) are Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress.

Each of these categories went to the south.

Dont compare these 4 awards with best kabadiwalla, best tea boy, best paan wala, and best boot polish award, that also may have been given.

There are scores of other tamil/mallu movies that lost out. And the states that u mentioned - neither have a regional industry nor quality audience to sustain it. They may be making some 4-5 movies in a yr, u shudnt count them group them as an industry

It would have been a disaster if srk or aamir won
by Anwar Ali on Sep 08, 2009 07:31 PM  | Hide replies

Chak de and Taare Zameen are both very hyped movie. It would have been a disaster if srk or aamir would have been the best actor. Looks like we still have a sensible jury there. Jis din SRK will get best actor us din himesh reshamiya will be best singer and music director.
