It would have been a disaster if srk or aamir won
by Anwar Ali on Sep 08, 2009 07:31 PM  | Hide replies

Chak de and Taare Zameen are both very hyped movie. It would have been a disaster if srk or aamir would have been the best actor. Looks like we still have a sensible jury there. Jis din SRK will get best actor us din himesh reshamiya will be best singer and music director.

its not south vs north
by raj k on Sep 08, 2009 06:13 PM

lets not go by south and north.Priyadarshan makes hindi, tamil and malayalam movies.Sabu cyril( national award winner for art direction) works for malayalam, tamil, hindi.
AR Rahman works for many languages.May the best talent emerge above the average.Lets appreciate the good movies and boo the bad ( that should encourage film makers to make good movies rather than the stuff they churn out now to make money.I liked Cheeni Kum or Rang De Basanti as much as I like malayalam or tamil movies.I enjoyed the songs of Kannada movie Mungarumale and the telugu movie Okkadu and Anandam.Shreya Ghoshal and Sadhana Sargam even sings in Tamil.Isnt it great?

Southern Flims are far better than Northern...thats for sure
by shashi kumar on Sep 08, 2009 12:06 PM  | Hide replies

Hindi movies are no match to southern films especially Tamil films . Tamil films are in terms of creativity, technicality and music are far far better than any Hindi movies. Its a pity glamour is more appreciated with hindi actress showing off their skin. Today tell me do you call Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra as actress...no way...they are no match to our tamil actreeses like priyamani ( national award winner) and of course our ever loved actress Revathy.

Even our younger crop of actors like Vikram,Suriya and Madavan are far better than any of the actors the hindi industry possesses.

Music: We have A.R.Rahman,Illayaraja and Harris Jayraj.....can you name a decent music director...no way...

Directors

We have ManiRatnam,Shankar and Bala....i can only think of one besides all which is Rakesh Omprakash.

The national award jury should look who they are presenting the awards to...

when it comes to taking benefits from the country, they will say we are one (can go anywhere to work, live and take a job etc.) but when it comes to their states, no one is welcome, and all achievements are only theirs .. funny but true .. i dis agree with this head line .. south india is also india and if its not then they better get a visa to go other parts of the country ..

The day when bollywood quits making movies is not too far. A good thing after all. Let Bollywood die and let regional industries like Marathi, Bhojpuri etc flourish.

this will never happen. I understand ur feelings - bollywood suppressing all ur regional industries. But the problem in north is that the individual states neither have enuf talent nor quality audience to sustain a regional film industry. So the limited talent from each state in north goes to bollywood.
This can be proved by the fact that bolly even after scouting talent from 700 million produce shitty movies as compared to tamil/mallu

bloodhound, your analysis is correct. but marathi movies have been gaining some popularity in recent times and if industries like them put in a little more effort, they can develop a regular viewership.

this is a very good news. Regional industries should be developed. Even hindi states shud develop their own regional industries.

Award for remakes?
by ajaychandra on Sep 08, 2009 11:33 AM  | Hide replies

Umashree is a good actress but I really dont understand how come they gave award for 'Chak de India'. This is a remake of English film called 'Mighty Ducks'. Do they give awards even for remakes or they are giving awards just for the sake of giving it ? Rest of the selections are OK not controversial.

Good choice
by vishal solshe on Sep 08, 2009 09:30 AM  | Hide replies

I have seen the movie gulabi talkies, it is really a fantastic and heart touching movie. It is all about the perfection that win awards, for EX- An indian movie in oscars was rejected in the oscars prelims coz it was an ancient myth movie and a guy standing in background had a pen in his pocket. This much of intense selection is made in these awards(National or Oscars) though we may not compare both on the same ground but it is a good step to see the change finally happening.

You're right.

I wish the jury had seen with the pair of eyes they need.

It's an extremely honest attempt and the result is fantastic.
