Nobody is allowed to distort "national anthem " in anyway... positive or negative.period.

Freedom of expression cannot override constitutional obligation.

For example,u cant use national emblem of india as symbol of ur instiution or company.

National flag is itself a copy of Hungary !!
Therefore anybody can copy it and modify for personal gains but National Anthem is not copied from anywhere else that's y it can't be copied and reciprocated !!

I haven't heard what he has given in the film.....however if something is wrong in our anthem, then we have to accept the fact......I accept out national anthem was written by great Rabidranath Tagore.......but he can also make mistake as he is also Human being.......Let us see how RGV has described and then we can judge whether it is correct or not.

RGV vs TAGORE vs NATIONAL ANTHEM OF INDIA
by sugata chatterjee on May 26, 2009 01:24 PM  | Hide replies

Many people write Noble Prize, it is Nobel Prize. And it comes from Sweden king after a jury panel nominates something is worth a Nobel Prize post severe and strict review.

Tagore sang this song himself and told he is not that mad to write a song for some English king. Remember Tagore is the only "Knight" who surrendered that knighthood to the English after Jalinwalabag murders with a blistering open attack published in English Press. That was five years after he got Nobel Prize in literature. All other brave Knights of remained silent.

Bankim Chandra Chatterjee wrote Vande Mataram, the tune we are so used to listening to it and is the real ornamentation of that song is by Rabindranath Tagore.

Just remember how he took the lead in the movement against Lord Carzon's Bengal Partition attempt in 1905. There was no communal divide.

Tagore was nominated for Nobel Prize by many poets, most importantly two other poets Ezra Pound and Yeates. The Westerners could not imagine a book like Geetanjali can be existing where Tagore appeals to Lord to take his motherland to where the head is held high and the heart is without fear.

Todays's lillyputs like RGV (good at creating Aag) show the audacity of criticizing Tagore. We the Indians are ungrateful enough to do so for a person like Rabindranath Tagore who openly criticized both Nazi and Japanese imperialism and single-handedly made a university.

One more song by Tagore is the national anthem of Bangladesh.

I think You have no knowledge of actual thing which RGV did.

First listen to the song then give speech here. You are well learned person no doubt but here u r arguing without knowledge.

RGV has inserted his own lines between Jana Gana Mana telling that what the poet expected and dreamt for this nation and see what is happening to this nation today...just that. In fact he is describing the disappointment which those freedom fighters would have felts and those who wrote such patriotic anthems after seeing the sorry state of the nation which is touching the bottom of characterlessness.

Fault of RGV is that there are certain defined Yes and Nos in our constitution and one can't tamper with the anthem and national flag. Ironically national flag has been tampered so manytimes be it cricket ground or be it congress flag....its just the song where court found it objectionable. Anyway none has got right to play with these things..but then it should be followed with national flag too and congress flag should be banned!

Well people have express in so ways to RGV not to use his brain [flop movies for years now actually never remember his hits except company which was the worst hit] The SC has clearly stated that you cann't give negative things to the national symbols. First of all RGV just wanted cheap publicity for his film as he cann't effort it any more and secondly there was no need of song as it would have just looked like unnecessary pasted on the film to increse it leangth

That's the problem with us Indians. Once we annoint somebody as god we are blind to all their flaws. Why cant you debate what RGV is saying without calling him names? Prove your point, prove him wrong. Tagore winning Nobel prize doesn't mean his points are beyond discussion. We all know how politicized Nobel is, so spare us the lecture. Even Gandhi didn't win Nobel, so let's not get into debating Nobel's virtues. I haven't heard RGV's mutilation of our national anthem, but however I would be curious to know what he wants to prove before making an opinion.

Supreme Court slams RGV for distorting national anthem
by vijay rao on May 26, 2009 01:08 PM  | Hide replies

The national anthem was introduced in the Law of our Constituency and we must not alter or make paste for movie use by picturing other events. If we do it, it was shame to us that we made this for our loving Radindranath Tagore's poems.
But, can build a new song without matching with our national anthem.

There is a diff bn freedom of expression and freedom of bakwas. The commercial film makers have only money in their mind. Creativity is Dead, they can only think of making Remixes in the name of songs or copy in the name of remaking. Creating controversies for commercial gains is now an old phenomenon in Indian Film Industry which is rightfully renamed as Bollywood for copying everything from Hollywood and not feel ashamed about it.

phew!!! loving Rabindranath Tagore.

Try to get some detail on when was our anthem written and for whom? You will be bit enlightened. It is true that anthem is a mark of respect towards a nation but to be honest that Anthem was written to praise Her Majesty with all the province under her control. Why only Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maratha, Dravid, Utkal, Banga?

More than that the person or body who thought to use it for our national anthem was so ill-informed that Sindh is in Pakistan. The Banga is entire Bangladesh so does it mean that National Anthem of India do cover Pakistan and Bangladesh?

I don't think it is wise to go against a logical thought.

I really wish I could use explitives here for such illogical arguments you are giving Shazid... ..when the National Anthem was written .. Pakistan and bangladesh was combined with ONE India... Dont you know BASIC geography / history of your own country..

and the national anthem is NOT about Rabindranath Tagore... it is about the NATION. ..if it has been accepted as a national anthem you should respect it. full stop.

and it wasn't an ode to the s.t.u.p.i.d majesty...... read Sugatas comments above. ..the mail trail that you have read is just a hoax by pranksters.. for people like you to jump of your seat..

I do know that it is a habit of pseudo-intellectualism to raise tornado over cup of tea and that does not distort the facts. For your info I had been to Shantiniketan for a mini project and I know your kabi-guru and his work far better than your proclaimation.

It is those pseudos sitting out in Shantiniketan who have belittled the effort of ur kabiguru and limited it within bengal. Ask any indian to sing a rabindra sangeet. For analysing his works i have learnt bangla and many rabindrasangeet in hindi from "wo din suhane ful dor bandhe - sedin dujone" "pagli hawa badraya din", etc.

His novels, single-acts, poems including his first notorious poem. Don't jump guns thinking others as naive here. I njoyed my stay out there and watched how people love to create unnecessary debates with no objective apart from pessimism and sledging.

Shazid, Literature can be interpreted in different ways, it is what you want to accept it. The land India has Sindh and Bengal and Sindhis and Bengalis are living here. I get goose bumps when I hear the national anthem. I love it and respect it. For your info. Sare jehan se achha was written by Iqbal who was in favour of creation of Pakistan. SO...

@Vitts

When we are creating something personal that is fine but if it has to do with group, community, nation, planet or beyond it then I is not important. A person is acknowdged for his greatness during his tenure of acts. Like Vashist Narayan the famous mathematician is now mentally retard so there is nothing wrong in it. Rabindra being educated accepted Knighthood that mentions his love for kingdom of Queen and subsequent he gave it up. Same is with Gandhi and also with Iqbal. Partition was not just people cry rather was a game of power mongers from multiple sides. Lets not just divert the topic. Objective is that fanatism in any form is not correct and our national anthem has left open areas of concern to be pointed. More than that if National Flag tricolor is used with modification to get votes then why not national anthem can be changed too.

Rgding Rabindra there was lot of hue and cries and every year or so Shantiniketan used to release some of his work as sole-propertier and all Rabindra songs need to be certified by them. Look now after end of their royalty his works has not vanished but new creation has evolved. You can't stop change.
