Remake lessons
by Sujay on Mar 30, 2009 12:01 AM  | Hide replies

I cant bear my fav movie screwed up...first the wrong choice of actor-bobby deol, he can never match to the level of mahesh babu..the character needs some one tall, very handsome and it just suits hrithik....then i read the review that heroine does not have a role and the romance is barely shown, pity..the heroin is the jaan of original movie and the romance in the original is the highlight of the movie..heard from another review that nana is the saving grace of the movie while the character in the original does not hv much role to do...heard from the review that nana utters to his wife that he ws missing her and he got fed up of suing hands!!!!!...gosh cant imagine the original can be screwed up so much...look at ghajini, its a frame to frame original and hence the movie is blockbuster..the remakers should reaize that such off-beat movies can be blockbusters only when they remake frame to frame...im now worried to wat extent the other remakes will be screwed up--Wanted(pokiri), its my life(genelia)

maana hain ki the original is inspired from tum ko na bhool paye or assassins...but it all depends on how u present..
ghajini is inspired from memento..and it is blockbuster becuase of its presentation...why not telugu movie be inspired from another movie and be presented well...

Height of stupidity
by Mash on Mar 29, 2009 08:48 PM  | Hide replies

I can't understand why people make a remake of idiot southie movies. Movies in which nothing is practcal & believable. One hero fights with 100-150 goons at a time & while fighting also he takes care of his hairstyle & glasses. LOL. Most of the time in movie hero keeps on fighting with goons & these fights also starts anywhere anypoint anytime & sometime without reason also. When he gets a time from these idiotic fights then he romances with & sings some stupid songs with world heavyweight heroine in some foreign country. Such a stupid show all south viewrs bear for two-three hrs but hindi audience is not used to it though bollywood movies r also baseless but certainly not as idiotic as these southie movies.

MASH, I dont understand why you are so anti South Indian. First of all I would like to state that Southies are definatly more adaptable to a new surroundings and languages. We guys learn the local lingo and many a times turn out speaking, reading and writing the local language better than those who are born there. We are a friendly lot and have no qualms about taking up job offers across the length and breadth of India.
All that i am trying to say is get rid of this stupid North - South divide attitude. We are Indians first and then only South / North Indians. Hope you understand what I am putting across and start thinking like a TRUE INDIAN. JAI HIND>

Mash,
heights of stupidity is your response because you have commented on something which you have not seen, None of those aspects that you have mentioned above are in the Telugu original Athadu. It was a very well made movie in all aspects and mahesh babu himself rates it as his best. This must be a case of badly made remake. The South Indian movie industry is very matured and both telugu and Tamil produce each same no of movies that are produced in Hindi every year and some times more. Mind you we are the better judges of movies because we are exposed to both Hindi and South movies while you dont get to see the South Indian unless they are remade(mostly screwed up).

Hello Mash,
Wow..you seem to be informed of south movies. But alas, this is where your ignorance, naiveness and to some extent stupidity crops up. You seem to have totally ignored the very old proverb of "Look before you Leap". It is an honorable request on my part for you to please see the original movie and then make your comments on movies. It is very clear that you have neither prior exposure nor correct information about movies made in Telugu or rather South Indian movies

Hey guys, looks like not everything is original in SOuth
by Iron Man on Mar 29, 2009 07:15 PM  | Hide replies

It seems like southies are copying Bollywood left right and center, like the original of this films looks to have been lifted from bollywood. What a terrible state of affairs.
I mean who copies Bollywood where everything is copied in the first place.
Check this out!
Hey guys seems like South Indian films ve run out of ideas as well...
'Poi Solla Porom', remake of Bollywood hit Khosla Ka Ghosla , has turned out to be a box-office success and production houses are now toying with the idea of rehashing other Bollywood flicks.

According to reports, 'Guru En Aalu' is inspired from ‘Yes Boss’, 'Villu' is based on ‘Soldier’, and 'Agean' is a remake of Main Hoon Na . The Tamil remakes also have big stars. For instance, Vijay plays the lead in ‘Villu’ while Ajith is the frontman of ‘Agean’.
Not just this, last year’s Bollywood hit Jab We Met is being adapted in Tamil by Moser Baer. On the other hand, director P. Vasu has plans to remake Shahrukh Khan ’s Baazigar .
However, some Tamil filmmakers are wary of this trend of adapting Bollywood hits. They think it would be a challenge to adapt non-native stories to the tastes of movie buffs downsouth.
The best part is that most of those films were copied from Hollywood.
Baazigar ..... A kiss before dying
Yes Boss ..... The Appartment
Jab We Met ... Misture of French Kiss It all happenned one night
Also Just goes on to show how popular SRK is down south.....
Love him or Hate him... Southies cant live without him

atleast we have the talent of remaking you dont have that too.and mind you it is not just your hindi remade movies coming in south.we have our own straight movies(more in number than remade movies) in fact.remaking a movie is an art.we have the talent of making straight movies and remaking movies in good manner.you dont know how to remake a movie at all instead to spoil them top to bottom.bah!!!!and you are talking as if you made all straight movies.ghajini, its my life, sunday, billu, wanted and this ek,are these not remade movies, few of them are already flop(remaining are going to be anyway).

I have seen the Ek and its Telugu Version......Had EK been copied frame by frame with any hero it would have been a super hit.

EK is a very poorly directed with Director's customizations with no technical excellence in the movie as Athadu is a rich take and techically superb.

None of teh actors in EK have performed upto any standards. Whereas Athadu is studded with extremely good performances of most celerted Actors. All Technical departmetns including Music, photography, dialogues were highlights in Athadu...

EK is a scrwed up version of Athadu.

To all the South Indian Movie Fans .. With Due Respect.. You gus debate in the reviews of Hindi films where as North Movie fans get ko know about your so called classic movies only when a Hindi remake is made. This itself shows that you guys watch all hindi movies (and still complain) whereas we hardly care about your actors fighting 100 villains at a time etc.. Talking about Ghajini, It was one of thos Aamir's movie which became a huge hit but It was no where near Aamir's standards.

Yaa you people are GOD in movie making, no one can match you and your south Indian movies, you people only should get rights to make films, you should actually be made owners and patents should be given to you people and anyone making film should actually learn everything from you and then only make film and that too under your control ... you are the best people on earth who can understand how movies are made ....

Its only in south indian movies where a hero throws bullet, cuts it with knife when its in air and kills more than one villain ...

Its only in your movies where a hero kills more than 20 people ... and thats called an art ... but if hindi movie does something similar ... you call it Crap!

What a mentality you people have dude!

@ Dacharla
Or maybe Hindi film audience have a much more mature taste than regional ones.
The concept of chaunvinistic rowdy angry heroes died in Hindia films way back in 90's. Today's hero is alot more relaxed, more expressive, tackles complex relationships and is far more gentlemanly.
Examples of actors who have failed due to higher maturity level in audience are Sanjay Dutt (with all his Underworld money failed to give one single hit sans Munna Bhai) Sunny Deol (a career only extended by Gadar) and Govinda (though funny but his type of humor got aligned with same uneducated lout).
Actors who have done well in last decade are those who are suited to these kinds of roles (3 Khans) or who dabbled across genres to get going (Hrithik, Akshay, Ajay). I mean look at Amitabh Bachchan, with all his political muscle he has still featured in some 35 box office disasters since 2000 only. Reason, multiplexes have brought the educated class into the cinema who usually dont pay money to watch jingoitic rude attitude of the 'Hero'.
Soon, the concept of 'Hero' will also change in south. No one can stop it.

billu, there are many many movies in south which show hero as gentlemanly, relaxed, dealing with complex relation ships. u havent seen any south movies thats why u speak like that. one eg:many kamal movies are like that.

also there are many women oriented south movies since 1980s, but i rarely see any bollywood movies which are women oriented, even though bollywood has more cities as its audience.

and athadu in telugu was a well made movie, but it hadnt been made properly in hindi.

ghajini features a rowdy angry hero and it has become the biggest blockbuster in bollywood history

Ghajini was a one off case, who knows probably the figures were cooked up. Media's role cannot be ignored in all this.

And secondly I like Southiee movies, and I was talking in context of this film and the above thread. Gentleman hero as always been there right from Dilip Kumar, Dev anand till now. However in 70's it was taken over by Dharmendra Amitabh's tapori one that took over. However the change came again ni 90's with multiplexes coming into the fore.
Now do you get the point?
Besides dont forget even the director OF THIS FILM IS SOUTH INDIAN.

Billu north indians are very regionla minded, hence they are the first to differentitae between souht and north movies.

and two ghajinis figures were not cooked up.the whole world knows this.

jaggiah, anr were the first indian actors to play sensitive roles.

many souht comedies were remade into hindi and becaem hits.

and women are never given much importance in bollywood movies.
