Just another aamir hater or shah rukh lover I think. Only people from those two groups can talk of such obnoxious things.

Ek Ruka hua faisla was a remake of '12 angry men'. Monsoon wedding did not make it to the Oscars list because we decided to send Lagaan instead...

TZP may be a milestone in Indian cinema, but if you took the pain to see some of the foreign films like Waltz with Bashir or Meinhoff Complex, you'd know we have a long way to go before we could compete in that category. How I wish a movie like Slumdog was made by an indian film maker(no offence Danny Boyle,I love you too!),like a Sekhar Kapur or Anurag kashyap or some of the other young talents out there.

You are right. We could have got an Oscar much earlier had we selected right movies. Like "Hazaron Khaweshe Aise" which never went to Oscars.

why Oscar?
by masood naqvi on Jan 14, 2009 04:30 PM  | Hide replies

Sholay, Mother India, Barsat, Mughal-e-azam, DDLJ, Pyasa, ... does not get any international awards. It does not mean that theywere not great films. Time has come that we must stop begging for oscar or any other international awards and concentrate to taking Indian filmaking to that height that the international community themselves feel honour to nominate our films for their awards. We have got the talent and potential and our directors or actors are no lesser than their international counterparts.

Rightly said. Movies like DDLJ are meant for only making money. As far as Sholay is concerned it was the copy of Good, bad and the Ugly. So no international award for it.

slight correction...sholay was copied from "magnificent seven" which was itself a copy of "seven samurai"....along with "influences" from many other movies...

films like Hum aapke hain kaun, vivah, dhoom 2, all govinda movies...all are gigantic trashes...

I know this. Indian people always want hero and heroine to run around the trees and marry in the end. If they do this then the movie is good or else the movie is trash.

mother india came out in 1957 merely 10 yrs of india getting indepence. u should praise such a movie and if u think ddlj was oscar worthy, then u do not deserve to be in this discussion.
