This is a useless and untrue review. The one writing it is out of his senses, has no factual knowledge and is bent upon opposing Slumdog.
He harps on the fact that Jamal couldnt have known how Samuel Colt made the revolver.MY dear friend, just see the film once again. There is a scene where Salim points a gun at Jamal and says-"Bhag ja...warna is 'colt' se uda dunga".
First get your facts right and then come write reviews...Ok
guys...watever is the discussion..the film is good to watch or time pass but certainly i would say that it doesnt deserve Oscar..rahman was best in many other films..Lagaan was the fantastic film in Indian film history but it didnt get the award. Slum dog directed by white man and got exposed to the world.thats it.. but i dont want to degrade Slum Dog it s good film..nothing more than that..

slumdog good to watch & story ya agreed on some harsh reality which were not needed but still these do happen in chawls no dout on that only problem most peple dont expect that to be shown on screens
Please the media in India is controlled by rich and there are many news which do not show up, if u dont have anyone supporting you(NGO's , Political parties etc). I have got a case for which the court has given verdict for the past 13 years and the Govt. hasn't paid me. And undestand the movie u have to live in chawls in mumbai and u have to go through the pains of common man on street.
First of all I would like to say that this is the last review I am going to read by our so called film critic. I cannot believe that such a blockbuster movie around the world is being being dealt with such negative analysis, of course you need to have your individual view point but the review seems to be written in light of a hurt ego, whether its about the title, or British guy making a hit film about India or poverty or our incapability to make good films anymore. I don know. Overall i find the film very captivating , enthralling with excellent music, direction & casting, although the performance by child actors were much more superior than there adolescent counterparts. And since when did we started analyzing the films to such fine grain detail, if thats the case the most of the Bollywood movies are crap anyway as they don't seem to be real and most of them makes little sense. But we still go and watch it and enjoy it, because thats what movies are for to relax and enjoy & this movie definitely made me feel good.Leave all the fine grain analysis for cricket , shall we.

Why not make this an unrealistic, entertaining masala film? Isn't that what all films are about? And does anyone dare deny the fact that the Hindu-Muslim riots shown didn't happen, or that the street kids angle is false? NO. it's TRUE. Get a life all your SlumDog haters, the original book is about poverty giving way to riches through luck. It's an uplifting, optimistic tale and at the end of the day a MOVIE. I think your problem is that you are being overly defensive about reality in India being showcased in the West. Only such Indian movies have a chance of winning big in the west and not the stupid SRK starrers, which might be more up your alley!
Scenes of poverty and squalour may appear romantic to Westerners and to our snooty elite but for ordinary Indians they are an everyday reality. One wonders what sort of mind can find such images aesthetically pleasing. Party-hopping socialites (for example, Shobhaa De after all her bombast of "enough is enough" after the Mumbai attack, went and watched a pirated copy!) who are distanced from such reality may find this film an "eye-opener" but for us it IS just poverty-porn. Leaving that aside, I have eight other objections to the film. 1) The director seems to RELISH showing violence. Some of it (like the police-torture) is quite needless. And why was the boy arrested in the first place? On what charge? Was it realistic? 2) How can a boy growing up in slums speak such accented English? Even if one assumes that the language he actually uses to communicate with the game-show host and the police officer is Hindi (granting the director the creative license to use a language better suited for international audiences), there are 2 instances where it is stretched too far: (a) when the boy becomes a ‘guide’ for foreign tourists at the Taj Mahal & (b) when he becomes a substitute-operator at the call-centre. 3) When the boy uses his ‘lifeline’ during the game-show, his friend discovers that she has forgotten her mobile and has to run back for it. This is plain Bollywood masala! Did the director HAVE to make it so melodramatic?

1)"And why was the boy arrested in the first place? On what charge? Was it realistic?"
Do you really live in India? Have you never heard of innocents being arrested. Moreover pleople can be arrested without any charge. Chargesheet is filed after investigations.
2) It was an English movie. We have made movies where Shivaji speaks Himdi and not Marathi and in perfect accent. Didn't Arvindsamy and Manisha Koirala speak perfect Tamil in the Tamil version of the film 'Bombay'?
3) Whats wrong with the melodrama? Hardly any Bollywood movie is complete without it.

4) How did the boy know who invented the revolver just by watching his brother use it? How does his friend know about Benjamin Franklin? 5) “Darshan Do Ghanshyam” is NOT written by Surdas. It is written by Gopal Singh Nepali for the movie Narsi Bhagat (1957). This song is also credited as traditional and originally written by 15th century poet Narsi Mehta, whose life that film is based on. 6) After winning the game-show, the boy sits on the railway platform and nobody recognizes him! Considering the popularity of the show, is that realistic? 7) Two glaring omissions: To qualify for the show one has to answer several GK questions over phone or Internet. Even after making it to the show, a contestant can reach the hot-seat, only after “fastest finger first”. All this is conveniently forgotten in the film. 8) And of course the greatest flaw in the storyline: programmes like 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' and 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' are NOT telecast live. As a result the entire structure of the film becomes unrealistic. For a film that boasts of being realistic such a flaw cannot be overlooked. Anyone else wants to say this is a great film despite all the eight points above?

4) Its not just by watching him. His Brother calls himself "The guy with Colt 47". Revolver was invented by Samuel Colt.
5) Darshan Do Ghanshyam was infact written by Surdas whatever the debate going around. This song was a few centuries later sung by Manna De for the movie 'Bhakta Surdas'. Maybe the lyrics were changed a bit for the movie but that doesn't take away the originl credits. Just like Mann Kunto maula was written by Amir Khusro and not Nusrat Fateh Ali or Sabri brothers.
6) Is it necessary for the quiz show winners to be mobbed like Bollywood stars? He appeared on TV for and hour or so. That doesn't make him an easily identifiable person. Its easy for people to think 'The guy does look like Jamaal' and walk their way. Do you really think the movie is incomplete because Jamaal wasn't mobbed LOL.
7) One doesn't have to answer several but a single question on phone. Anyone can answer that because there is plenty of help available and no time limit. Fastest fingers first was not there in earlier episodes of KBC. Moreover the show wasn't KBC.
8) The show is not telecast live but that doesn't mean it can't be telecast live. At the end of the day it was a movie and not a documentary on how KBC or WWTBAM are made.

This is Danny Boyles hommage to the commercial bollywood movies. And the single scene where jamal gets the autograph from Amitabh is irony. In a country where the movie industry makes huge profits from movies and huge stars who earn billions the common man is ignored of even basic infrastructure.

Oh... and you think most of the Hindi movies about getting shot and still having the strength to fight 10 villains or jumping from heights and not getting a scratch and all the unrealistic bullshit that make up bollywood movies ......is very real that it becomes block busters
please give the movie some credit.. all those glitches that you talk about atleast seem believable to some extent

Thats not the only filth that wasn't shown.
-Kidney rackets were shown -Custodial deaths were not shown -Politicians making a capital out of riots were not shown -Abuse of domestic servants was not shown -Dowry deaths were not shown -Caste discriminations were not shown
And a lot of other filth wasn't shown and that was because it didn't fit the script like the guest said.
