Biggest Flaw of the movie.
by mirror on Jan 23, 2009 10:56 PM  | Hide replies

KBC is not shown live . Even in ANY other gameshow it is not practical to have the life line of 'Phone-a-Friend' while broadcasting LIVE. The 'friend' would have already seen the question on the TV and by the time the contestant makes the call , the 'friend' would have already searched the answer on the internet. Biggest flaw of the movie.

I was shocked to read Raja Send giving 5 Star for this film. its a total crap. i am happy to read this write up. thanks. this write up is 100% bang on target. we dont need to ban this film because it show the poverty of india etc... but its not worth watching after all that hype.

Thanks for writing a frank review inspite of the awards it has won and been nominated for.I agree with you.It is just like a masala Movie from Bollywood.
If there is no politics involved in Oscars, it will not get a single award.
Mr. Boyle has taken care to put the songs after the film has ended and the Titles are being shown, may be just be in Oscar race. The music director has only the chance to win an award,if the juries continue to remain seated when the Titles start appearing.
All the best, India, in joining the celebrations with the West to condemn India.
But please remember, Mr Boyle,no Indian slum kid will jump into the nightsoil, nor Amitabh Bachchan will give an autograph to a kid in that form. Why don't you imagine this to happen in ENGLAND?

The movie will win at least 6 oscars:
Best movie, Best Cinematography, Best Song, Best original score, Best Adapted Screenplay and best Editing are the categories where it has the most chance.
And what do you mean if no politics is involved in Oscars? Do you think this movie has won best movie of the year award at all the awards it was nominated by fluke!

An exploitative, contrived & mediocre film
by archana mishra on Jan 23, 2009 10:26 PM  | Hide replies

How the boy cud CHEAT on camera, facing a hostile & vindictive host, with hundreds of ppl around in the studio? It cud hv been possible if he was appearing in a writing exam. And I want to know in which slum school they teach 'Three Muskiteers'? And how cud a blind urchin recognize the US Dollar? Film's title is also derogatery and so is the Host's attitude towards the boy sitting on the hot seat. It's music is also mediocre. This movie is a real piece of shit. And,to me,it will remain the same even if it wins all the Oscars. Many great Films, Directors, Actors & Technicians never got it in the past but I still adore & respect their work and consider them greater than those who got it.I can give a long list.

okie replace 'three muskiteers' with some other novel/history book? happy?
Go and buy original cd of the songs and play in nice branded speakers than you will know how good is music.

a r rahman rocks!! it's shame that indian directors never try to make good movies or even if they do they dont try to mkt it for westerners /Oscar..

Really poor review
by Garvit Rawat on Jan 23, 2009 10:22 PM  | Hide replies

Isn't the whole point of art the willful suspension of disbelief, and lets face it, there is hardly a moment in the movie when you're put off the storyline. It is truly an enthralling piece of moviemaking. Looking for these so called loopholes is the easiest thing ever, but in doing so you end up missing the whole point!

absolutely agree with sumit...infact this film is based on the book by Vikas Swaroop named "Q" & "A" when i read this book some 2-3 yrs back ...I told my friend that this book can be made into a typical hindi masala movie...and lo..it has happened

I totally agree with Sumit's review. Its one more sterotypy movie on the plight of a poor nation directed by a white guy. What more do you need to win a Oscar. Oscar is a SHAM. Its just a OK movie.Had the same movie was made by any good Indian director (with the same values),it would have thrown away by Oscars

Very good observations! but...
by Amit on Jan 23, 2009 09:53 PM

..its a movie right, it is got to be fictitious to some level or else they might come up with some real life (based on) story. Another hole was that, KBC or Millionaire will not ask a question and then go for a break in bathroom were answers can be discussed, I mean thats totally BS right! Having said that and read your argument, it is still a great movie with some superlative direction, editing, music etc. and is leaps and bound ahead of any of the bollywood (as the name acquired, the movies are also copied from hollywood) movie. So it deserve at-least 3.5 or 4 star. (Yea, I saw Raja Sen 5 star, but then you can only argue with people who has brains, raja sure misses one)
