Indians will always be slavish

I Salute Indian wins BUT not the filmWe continue to revel in the success of a film that shows India ONLY negatively. Is there absolutely anything that conveyed a speck of positiveness about India in that movie?

Was Slumdog music even half as good as Lagaan ? Can you compare Rin-Rin-Rinna OR Jai-Ho to ANY songs of Lagaan (also by Rehman)
All you see is the Oscar. The movie & its intent does'nt matter.

All this is western propaganda to show that India is a shithole (& missionaries are our uplifters. Exactly the same holds about Calcutta)
But that's nothing new, Canada's last year entry was John Abraham's movie Water that pictured prostitution in Benares.
If it had won @ Oscar's you would have revelled about a movie bringing GLORY to India.

It is a well-made & hard hitting movie, but the subtle anti-India proaganda is terrible.
My problem is that it ONLY shows the negative side..

Heck.. 18 yr old Jamaal knows Benjamin Franklin but not Gandhiji (who incidentally has a positive image in the West) What it conveys to Western audiences is that Gandhiji & his teachings are irrelevant in his own country.
Thats senseless denial of positives isnt it??

Then theres a middle-class Sardaji with family who pushes two 8 year-old kids down a train, coz they stole a chapati. Thats India to Western audiences

Now 8 Oscars put a mark of authenticity on that. Isnt that propaganda?
Contd...

Can anyone please explain why Canada nominated Indian film 'Water' (which portrays prostitution in Benares) as its entry for Best Foreign film? To the uninitiated, Canada is not an Indian state though it sound like Kannada LOL
(Does that sound like missionary propaganda through secular eyes) My friend the film was shot in Srilanka. Canada changed a rule that its entry for Oscars should be in the official language of the country. All this, so that Water could be nominated from Canada. Check timesofindia. Do intellectuals get blindsided to common sense in India or WHAT??

Mother Teresa flush with funds from rich Western countries works for orphans (who are coincidentally converted/raised as Christians). She gets a Nobel Peace Prize. Beatified as a SAINT
Baba Amte with almost no funding, works among Lepers his whole life. Forget Nobel, he is not known even among Indians.

Maybe Soniyaji should have given away Kashmir to Pak. She wud get the Nobel Peace prize & you guys will revel in the GREAT achievement.
Indians just cant get out of the yoke of slavery.
You guys YUCK!!

Great Sir A R Rahman
by hameet bhullar on Feb 27, 2009 04:33 AM

You always deserved it. Though your previous work was far better than this. Taal had the best music, Bombay, Roja, and now Ghajani, Yuvraj. You are the best music director ever in Indian Cinema and I can say whole world.
Hands up for you

Rahman is trend setter
by Baburao on Feb 27, 2009 03:15 AM

Though he has done much better work in earlier movies like Roja, Bombay, Lagaan etc.. this time he got the right plateform. And with the kind of fame, SM got, he also got the deserving fame. Have you heard scores of other movies? I have.. ARR is far better believe me.

Oscars and Politics are mixed!
by Rao Fakir on Feb 27, 2009 02:30 AM  | Hide replies

Oscars has lot to do with Politics..the best actor award went to the lead actor of a 'Gay Movie'. U.S. Govt. is trying to improve its image around the world especially in Muslim world and what better than nominate two muslims and a movie with a muslim named lead characther. Far fetched imagination? When U.S. Govt. is spending millions of dollars in its public relationship campaign, it is far cheaper to influence 2000 votes that any of you think. Obviously they will not vote for a sub-stanard movie but anything that is good can be adjusted 'best'.

Yes, I think Rehman is overrated and gives rubbish music. He looks like potato. It is US giving a tinny-winny Oscar for signing the NPT.
