SDM is a well made movie. But not a great world class movie. The western Jury and audience are getting exposed to semi bollywood style in a big way because of a white director and they are making such a big deal.There were well made movies by 'western' directors based on India but since they did not show India as a dirty poor third world country did climb up the popularity chart!! I felt Lagaan was such a soul stirring movie, but failed oscars because 1)Indian ethos was well portrayed and many in western jury cannot digest that 2)it was not made by a 'westerner'. Take 'Gandhi' again because it was made with 'western' orientation it got the Oscars. We should call a spade a spade with respect to Oscars. Incidentally it is not even a movie representing India. I don't know when we will get rid of ourselves the slave mentality and think just becuase it won a Oscar it must be great. when our directors will make movie about inner city black slumdogs in Philadelphia and give it a Filmfare award!! We should invite the poor black kids and fete them!!It is a shame we are giving unnecessary importance. See CNN news broadcast showing India clebrating Oscar with images of slum folk shouting in front of a tiny TV as if they have nothing better to do than to jump up and down for Oscars!! Shame.
what is it? is there any thinking in mind of india as how they r being insulted? u do not deserve it like this how it is given! in fact, rehman gave his worst music in "slumdog.." , compared to his earlier music in 'jodha akbar', 'lagan', roza, bombay etc! freida pinto acted as normal as a little less from new comer in hindi film! story line is hypothetical! jamal was asked all the question from his life experience only! got up story! poverty show? hundred times more poverty , reality were shown in mrinal sen, shyam benegal movie! do u want to tell that indian could not make such a film to get a oscar till date! if the talent is appreciated then, the every film of satyajit roy's, mrinal sen's , shyam benegal etc would have got oscar award! was there no merit in "mother india", "lagan" or "TZP"etc brilliant indian film or other indian language? don't u find any indian film to get nominated for oscar untill a foreigner make movie on india's poverty porn? if u r a self respected and nationalist, definitely u will not be proud for these 8 oscar as we have the believe in ourself that we had made, will be making good films more than 'slumdog.’ indian, please understand, where u r being striked! i would definely tell that to-day is our humiliation day internationally! i would not have bothered if foreigner r insulting us onesidedly in their own area(outside india) but i am bothered as how shamelessly my indians r singing their song! do u deserve to be slum dog?

Saugata, You are the pretentious icon of India. If you feel so ashamed of poor people than go do something to rehabilitate them. Hypocrites like you will enjoy pervert movie like FASHION, but Slumdog where the whole concept is about hope against all odds you are ashamed. Get lost you moron.

People who are obsessed with softporn hindi movies cannot digest anything that is close to reality..So long Bollywood was churning out rubbish after rubbish with very few exceptions..I am a patriotic indian who is very much comfortable with the fact that we have economic and social issues..Religious riots and poverty are acute problems of India and this movie seriously made an attempt to address it..I hope this will inspire a whole lot of new indian directors and actors..The bottom line is that there is no lack of talent in india and there is immense opportunity of artistic innovation. As long as the current baggage of bolliwood drives indian movies, there is no chance that people in india get anything meaningful !!

Without congress manifesto of garibi hatao which from Indira gandhi period to future generations of rahul gandhi, such slums in India wud not have been possible.
I congratulate congress and people voting for congress for making a film like slumdog millionaire possible.
Nice one PM. Thank them for showing what your party has done to India for last 50 years. Mr. PM, if I were you I would bury my head in the sand by seeing the plight of poors in my country.

I don't belong to any party but the past 50 years were not bad for India. You don't need to look beyond education and democratic institution to understand the benefit..People like you can atleast open your mouth and express your views..We would have gone back another 100 years if Saafron party had ruled india
