Music is much more better than Slumdog
by anandhan on Feb 09, 2009 05:05 PM  | Hide replies

two weeks back, rediff gave 5/5 for slumdog.Naan kadavul re-recording is 100% better than slumdog.Illaiyaraja lived in re-recording.what i feel is,rediff always gives more ranking to Hindi movies, even if it is bad.
It gives less rating to regional language movies.

This is just too much. Just because IR is good in BGM doesnt mean that it si 100% better than SlumDog. When u pass a comment be true to urself.

Before the picture was released, lot of hype was created about the BGM. The BGM is good but not as hyped by the media.

Comparing this with a movie which has won most of the prestigious awards is senseless.

Rangarajan you are turning every1 into anti Rahmanians.

You know what is bgm? Gnaanasooniyathodalaam paesina namakku dhaan asingam.

Like Raaja says " There is good food , Popcorn" You can chose what you wanna have!

Raaja - The best music director ever!

Hello Rangarajan,
Illayaraj is the God of Music. Just because slum dog is receiving awards, it does not mean that AR is better than Lord. Forget that u are an ARR fan. listen to both movie background scores truly. then u will come to know who is better. As somebody said, ARR knows how to market his music which the Lord does not do. ARR is a good composer. No doubt in that. but he should not be compared with the Lord. Oscars and golden globe awards are just like our national awards... don't give much importance to that...

Good Backlash from u both. Unmaiya sonna kovam varuthu. Nalla Samaalippu. Gnaanasooniyamnu sonna udane I remembered a story in Mahabharat. The story goes like this. Yudhishtir and Duryodhan went in search of a bad guy and good guy respectively. But Both could not find one. The reason is that they saw outside what they feel in themselves.

So Mr.Srivatsan, I think u r a Gnaanasooniyam and so others look like one for u.

Mr Yuvraj,

The juries in the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Oscars are not fools to nominate or award a picture for Best Music Score. U IR fans think highly of urselves. Come out of ur circle. the world is big.

I wrote the comment because u were praising ur MD at the cost of others. U may rate ur MD as God and Lord. Its ur wish. But dont degrade other MD.

Grow up guys.

You have to grow up dude! I can make it from your choice that you are not matured.
I'm very serious , cos i used to fight with my uncle telling ARR is better than IR(when I was till my colleg second year). Then I started listening to the BGM of Raaja. He took me to heaven. Lets stop this fight. Kindly listen to the BGM(mahanadhi) when Kamal finds his daughter in red light area. Very Poignant bgm.
As IR himself will say " naan anaithukkum apparpattavan" . He is beyond silly Golden Globe and Oscars.

Get matured soon. I'd like to see a matured Rangarajan:)

Just because u changed parties from ARR to IR does not mean that u have matured. The fight wasstarted by u by using words like Gnaana sooniyam etc. I was forced to retaliate.

Every one has their own choice and taste. I have mentioned that never degrade other MDs.

Just becuase IR could not get Golden Globe and Oscars does not mean that those awards are silly. This shows ur immaturity and u r asking me get matured. Good joke.

As quoted in ur message,a person using "Naan" can never be good. It shows his arrogance.Just my few cents.

Conclusion :
Two persons in Indian Film industry are beyond comparison.
Kamal Hassan and Ilayaraaja uncomparable , beyond every1!
ARR is the best composer in India.
But please dont compare ARR with IR. Every1 will understand. Lets wait for every1 to get matured.

And killar Vazeeh dont make some foolish comments and comparisons.

Dear Rangarajan,

Let us remember that the primary criteria for any movie to be part of the English-speaking movie awards is to be in English and to be produced in the western world.

Other movies have only one criteria - the best foreign language picture.

So comparison on the basis of these awards would not be an appropriate one.

It is always heartening to know that Indian talent is being appreciated the world over because it has now got an opportunity - better late than never. And it sometimes pains that some of the best of Indian talent has not got as much recognition as it deserves.

And Rangarajan lets put an end to this discussion regarding your favourite and my God.

But one thing dont say that Golden Globe and Oscars are really meaningful awards given to the right person.

As requested by u let us put an end to this comparison.

Before that I would like to emphasise here that Killar Vazeeh was praising his favourite as u do for ur so called god. His comparison may be crude but he has his own right of doing it. I am not commenting on that but he has got a valid point. Encourage new talents. Dont say that Old talentas are always best. This will apply to another MD who will usurp ARR in a big way in future.

Also u have mentioned that Kamal and IR are beyond comparison. U may be a Kamal and IR fan. But making an ouright statement like this will only fuel to another fight.

U may not have seen off-beat films of 1980s in Hindi. The team consisted of Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri,Shabana Azmi,Smita Patil and Shyam Benegal. They are gems.

Agreed that talented actor. He is among the best and not the best. Same for IR also.

See movies in other languages also before coming to a conclusion. This is my suggestion. It is upto u to decide.

But it was a good discussion with u.

ARR knows how to market his music. Ilayaraja doesn't know this activity, he knows music only. The media hype of slumdog is very much, and the film doesn't worth for that

How much Aghora do you know?
by Anand L on Feb 09, 2009 04:17 PM

Saw the movie this weekend. I heard about Aghora's while the movie was being made and came to know something about them from the net. Though I have not seen one personally, I guess Arya did a great job always being mysterious. Bala had done a great job in not showing what's in Arya's mind, which worked for me very well. Religiously, his purpose of visiting his birthplace has served his purpose of cleansing the place, probably already anticipated by his guru in Kashi. This is a movie with multiple layers like a Alejandro Amenabar movie. I guess I cannot justify giving a review but this is a thoroughly enjoyable movie (entertainment for me is not just thrills, chills, songs, dance, drama and action). This movie is made in a grand scale. I mean the characters stand out big and grand. They don't need peppy songs in great sets with costumes changing every 10 seconds. There is no necessity for the hero to fight villains in a glass house and break everything in the vicinity. For a change here is a movie with grandeur much better than the masala movies. I had a wonderful time this weekend. I look forward to experience this a couple of more times so that I can try to understand the layers in the movie. Go for it. For people who hated it, probably it did not match your expectation or perspective of entertainment.

Master Piece – Hats off
by aaron kumar on Feb 09, 2009 02:49 PM  | Hide replies

The superbly made trailer made me to go for it.

I has a superb theme, unimaginable story, and well-performed.
Once in a life time movie, don’t miss it. But don’t expect entertainment like being in a circus or any fun ride. The movie is technically sound, good raw story, and excellent execution of what the director had in mind.
However, it would be little too much for ladies (sorry, the reviewer too) to watch such raw gory and bloody portrayal of life as it is.
It’s hard to decipher how the director would have planned to give such a hard-hitting intro to Rudran, an Agoran. Superb camera work, the reviewer forgot about the costume designer and the credit to the stunt master.
Bala, do I need to tell about his work and dedication? His earlier movies speak volumes about his talent and hunger.
Arya, as Rudran, has done a great job. He has molded into the character pretty well and performance is top class. He is amazing with his looks and the way he carries his character, especially watch out for the final walk and stunts.
Pooja, excellent portrayal of a blind girl. She has followed what the director has said. There is scope of improvement in her make-up?

Stunts: The reviewer wrote “stunts echo a lot of Pithamagan.” This shows the way she wrote the review, half-baked. I personally liked it so much and the actors did it pretty well. Especially, the last fight with the villain. It may look simple, but it is very hard to run like that in slippery

Some director make movies which are magnificient and expensive - Big Stars, Graphics, Sets etc. etc. Bala has simply made a movie with magnificient characters. Though they may be living in rags, they have no way failed to touch your heart, by making you laugh and cry and think. This is certainly entertainment at its best. Bala could be anything in his personal life, but he makes movies which linger in your mind for days after you have watched them and would watch again and again. Thanks to Bala and his cast and crew for the great experience. Looking forward for more from Bala.

I had a wonderful time this weekend watching Naan Kadavul. It was like watching an Alejandro Amenabar movie. It was like as though the movie had so many layers. I had to repeat watch to understand the layers. Though I have no knowledge of film making and cannot justify a review, I thouroughly enjoyed the movie.

by Dingdong on Feb 09, 2009 02:37 PM  | Hide replies

Bala is becoming loose it seems. Such a pity on heroinge pooja is that she has been shown very credly in this film. Bala makes only graveyard movies. He is drug audict. Arya & pooja's talent has been wasted in this film. I felt very shakey while watching this movie. We do not expected this type of movie from really great Bala. Any way all the best for his future endeavour.

Bala has utterly failed to narrate the stroy. It is acting of only Pooja which can save the film from its down falling. Not worth for money ! BAla has to stop directing the film.

Probably, you would have loved Rudhran fall in love with the beggar girl and start singing duets. You are the only one I have come across so far who have criticized Bala for narration.
Pooja's acting is appreciated only in this movie, and naturally the credit goes to Bala, if you ask her, she will agree.

I think you are a masala movie fan.
But for that pl.dont comment that Bala should stop directing. You better dont watch his movies. As Vinesh had rightly written, be happy with Ravi & Vijay movies.

Inconsistency - Thy name is rediff !
by shiv kumar on Feb 09, 2009 12:32 PM

When i saw the title 'Nan Kadavul lacks punch' i quickly scrolled down to check the number of stars - expecting a one or a two. but to my surprise it is a 3 star - which is good. Why should a movie that is classified as 'quite good' get a title so negative ? Dont assume that every body in this world reads the whole review - especially the rediff reviews that are full of spoilers. Many of the readers just look at the review title and the stars - which in this case is quite contradicting.

Rediff - why dont u guys show some consistency within the same page at least. And just by crtiquing a good movie i dont think so what u guys are going to achieve !
