There is a play from Shakespeare called "king lear", it is a tragedy. The last lear is an adaptation from that.

must watch
by krishnendu mukherjee on Sep 16, 2008 06:55 PM

ya i watched it last saturday. and will watch it again. it is a treat to watch, although frame to frame you will see rituparna effect. the performances are just mind blowing. whether it is Amitabh, or jishu or shefali or even preity. in fact arjun ramapal did a brilliant job. I thought he cant act. well i can write pages abt amitabh in this movie. he is real treat to watch. in every scene he just force you to look at him. and his reactions are my god. the script is fine too but probably the subplots should have been taken a little more care. like the relations of zinta and her bf or divya dutta and her bf. their complain just really dont touch me. but shefali shah is amazing too. she is such a brilliant actress. Rampal also surprised me the most. he is excellent in his own way. jishu is also very good. i have not seen him act but here i found a lot of potential in him. Ritu as a director i believe is very sensitive. and this movie is no exception. He force you to watch every scene every dialogue. I am sure those who are familiar with every bits and pieces of shakespear (i am not, so could nt really understand every delivery of plays by bachchan), will catch the moon in this movie. But perhaphs he would have made more close ups on bachchan. I felt in few scenes his hair covered his face and devoid us from his whole reaction. Background music is good by rashid khan but could have been better in use, just like in raincoat. But a great movie.

Actually for the non- indian accent audience, watching the Last lear is a comic relief, with all that heavy accent, good for stand up comedians, they can observe the actors speaking pukey english and make fun of us.

please get a life ramesh. what do you mean by 'soooooo indian' whats wrong in that?? we indians speak english the way it is supposed to be spoken, in the most unaffected way possible. do you want ppl around to understand wat your kid says. then thank god for his 'indian' english. let your child speak the way he is speaking... anyways TV will affect his accent pretty soon and you might just get your wish granted. but seriously...once again.... get a life!!!

Well its fact that 'The Last Lear' is not a commercial movie but if you believe in quality work and if you want to watch IMPRESSIVE AND INTENSIVE performance..then must watch it.
Despite the fact that this movie will not do good business but we should appreciate the quality work by BIGB.

None can match his calibre....

Guys this is humble appeal, not try to write off such a gr8 actor by framing biased view on the basis of distorted media coverage..
Even we try to compare him with srk, akshay or aamir. Aks yourselves a sincre question if boy-next-door, romatic hero like srk can ever fill the vaccum of AB. His standalone performances like Yarana,Agnipath, Deewar, Don or The last year can only be the testimonial to his calibre.

Y r you so biased in Amitabh's favour.
Dont forget just like you have your opinions, other have theirs. No one is superior to other..
And by the way, from the films that you mentioned...
Agnipath,.. Your 'great' actor blatantly copied Al Pacino(Scarface) and Marlan Brando(Godfather).
Yarana .. He copied Jack nicholson's act all the way in the second half.
This comparison that you mentioned in you message is exactly whats keeping him alive in bollywood. Without SRK he would not have anyone to rage a controversy.

Mr/Mrs. Iron Man or Woman,

Whatever Sameer said is 1000% right. A gr8 actor is gr8 actor. That is why everybody wants to become Amitabh Bachchan. Amitabah does not want to become anybody. And he does not copy. He has his own style. Besides you will find srk copying from KL Saigal to Shahid Kapoor. All he does is love, love or love. And somebody copying Alpachino and Brando should be appreciated. I did not know they could be copied. And speaking of controversy..from Raj thakrey to Sonia Gandhi...everybody wants to be popular by raging controversy against this Man. Sorry God.

The First, the Last and the ONLY Lear!
by Rajesh Kejriwal on Sep 15, 2008 01:44 AM  | Hide replies

Its ABsolutely an out-of-the-world movie!!!! Ohhhhh what a faultless performance!!! What superb acting!!!! What rivetting theatrics!!!! What perfect voice modulation!!!! What amazing dialogue delivery!!!!!! What wave of hand, what piercing eyes, what brooding voice!!!! Everything just top class!!!!

If Shakespeare were alive today, he sure would be pleased as a punch with Aby's 'over-the-top' performance!!!!

Yes, I say 'over-the-top' because that is precisely what THEATRE acting is all about. And that is precisely what Aby's character is supposed to be in this movie! So all those self-proclaimed-critiques who have said "the acting was a little over the top", take note: the acting wasn't a 'little' over the top, it was 'totally' over the top. And it was so because a Shakespearean theatre act is all about being just that - over the top!!!

After Black I had thought he can't better himself now. But with The Last Lear he did just that - YES, he has outdid his Black act!!! And how!!!

I simply can't give you enough examples of the beauties of this movie. ALL acts wherein Aby has enacted a Shakespeare are GEMS! Pure gems!!!

BRAVO, Mr. Bachchan!
You are not The LAST Lear, Sir...
You are the FIRST, The Last and The ONLY King Lear!!!!
