AB hits a nadir
by rkg on Sep 13, 2008 08:40 AM  | Hide replies

King Lear is a sure loser...a big bore........create history in big time flops.....AB reached NADIR....

@ Arnab Bhatta

Keep ur "taste" to yourself. U bongs will always support and like whatever another Bong makes.....OK

Regarding the movie...Its sucks big time!!! If the directors n producers had only art in mind then t the first place there wouldn't have been AB n PZ in that movie...No large hoardings everywhere...and No full page advertisements in newspapers ok.

Its just that they don't know how to make movies that both makes sense and makes money by making the package attractive. U want examples of such types of movies???? Write to me.

Dear rkg,
If you r such an expert on movies, why don't u make one and let us learn something great????
Just for example, when Biapsha Basu will be no more, people will remember her for her sincere effort in 'Corporate' and not for say, 'Bachna..'
Everything is not everyone's cup of tea. Some of you guys sound extremely knowledgable about movies and especially arts. Why don't you guys tell us something about Indian painters and modern art forms????
Study, dear!!! Films are not like entering into a theatre and 3 hrs later fluttering one's comments...

Acting of Big B in Last Lear is far better than that in Black
by arnab bhattacharya on Sep 13, 2008 01:24 AM

Also i forgot the write that I personally felt that in terms of performances this is one of the Big B's best and its far better than loud melodramatic Black..(first Aamir Khan prooved with his Taare Zameen par that when you are making a film on some disability its not necessary that you have to go over the top to have an impact..and Now here in Last Lear it prooves shows that subtle acting have better impact than loud ones...Though Big B was going overboard in few sequences but those where necessary)

Appreciate good cinema
by Naveen Chandran on Sep 13, 2008 12:22 AM

I've not seen last lear - however, I do prefer the so called arts or parellel cinema. These days anything unconventional start getting recognised as art film. Just because a film is slow cannot be art. Last lear though not seen - but what I want everyone to know is that these days we don't need big stars to get a good hit (Janne Tu - Rock on ) What we need is a good movie.

It's Not For Typical Bollywood movie goers...........
by SUBHRAJIT GUPTA on Sep 12, 2008 11:40 PM  | Hide replies

I don't understand why everyone is calling this movie a bore. Well why did they watch it in the first place? The prmos showed us extremely well that the movie was meant for a niche audience. It's not a typical Yashraj or Singh is Kingh sort of dumb movie which is meant for just insane entertainment. Also i feel many people here may not have even studied Shakespeare or watched Hollywood Classics as they must be from some Hindi Medium School teaching you about films like Welcome, Kismat Connection etc. Learn to appreciate Art movies and watch Amitabh and learn how theatre actors perform. No wonder our movies just get appreciated by NRI'S. Go watch Singh is King and compare the acting and content, not just entertainment and then you will realise what movies are about. This is not a classic but it is one of the better critically acclaimed movies in recent times. All these Hindi movie goers who like heroes singing and dancing must realise that Bachchan should have been in Hollywood and then even he would have denounced his typical 80's type of movies. Just because you don't understand this movie doesn't necessarily mean it's a bore. All newspaper reviews say it is agreat movie. Now please don't start by saying that Bachchans have bought Times of India and Hindustan Times.

well sorry to interrupt u mr Subhrajit Blah Blah...whatever ur name is..
I have studied in a prestigious English medium school called the Assembly of god church.
But I still found this movie a big bore. As I had mentioned earlier in the msgboard, This movie can make even a fully fit Usain Bolt go into COMA.
Any movie which is rather slow or mauldin is not an art movie. Watch art movies of the 80's and u will get the point.

Dear Manikantan,
Could u please explain me what yours 'prestigious English medium school' could do to your sensibility and power of understanding?
Shed that big air around you and distribute your printed quotes only around your cubicle (if u r an office-goer).

A publicity stunt?
by ...Anish... on Sep 12, 2008 11:06 PM  | Hide replies

After reading all these messages about what a crashing bore of a movie this Lear or whatever it is, I am beginning to wonder whether this whole issue of Jaya Bachchan vs Raj Thackeray was created to give some publicity to this worthless movie which otherwise would have sank like a stone in water ( I guess it still will).
Arindam Chaudhury, go back to duping the students. Indian film goers are not as dumb as you think!

Go and applaud OSO, Welcome, Singh Is Kinng, Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya etc etc...I think you guys might have told 'No Man's Land' an ordinary fair or 'Pan's Labyrinth' an overblown impact...ha ha ha

To rediff with Love
by Anirban Das on Sep 12, 2008 10:59 PM  | Hide replies

First Raja Sen, now this Sukanya Verma. Do u always appoint sadist critics? Do they even understand movies? Or they feel that they earn rediff salary through hyper criticism. Pathetic reviews ur website has, sorry. No wonder I have moed elsewhere, but everytime I open ur site, it now infuriates me. If they cant apprecate , atleast let em not opinionate peopel throigh their UGLY reviews. And I hope Sukanya has the guts to answer back to my mail.

I remember dimwits cursing Sen all the time, but Verma was spared because she was not radically different. Now that she shows some aesthetic sense and matured way of writing the review for a film, she becomes an evil overnight? So basically anyone who fails to stoop down to your complete lack of sense of art and culture and aesthetic is basically worthless! If you have a problem with Rediff reviews, you have many dumb so-called film critics (e.g. Taran Adarsh, reading whose English is pure torture, not to mention his lack of any sense). Go read them, and live a happy life of a cow. A movie like Last Lear is anyone not made for people like you, go watch all those Priyadarshan comedies.
