Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city in Maharashtra state of India and immigrants from several other states have prospered in Mumbai. Large portion of Mumbai population is tolerant & try to accomodate people from other places. There was helping all around in Mumbai during the huge rain storm in past. The immigrants should not mind learning Marathi, a local language of Maharashtra. Afterall we breath air of Maharashtra state for 24*7 and earn our living in Maharashtra. I think there is a room for demonstrating our sensitivity to local culture. It will NOT hurt us my fellow Indians. Has it hurt (NRIs) Indians who settled in Europe and learned local languages of Europe? Mumbai people with their adaptive spirit will continue providing better value & making a huge contribution to Indian economy. Yes, my ancestors came to Maharashtra from other state of India.
I love my India and Maharshtra where I earn my living.

Yes, Hindi is our national language and we can speak our own language anywhere in democratic nation such as India. Most NRIs in USA celebrate American festivals in USA. Most NRI kids speak American English in USA besides their own language. It is important to respect local culture and learn local language wherever we settle.

India does not have a national language. Hindi is the 'official' language of the Central govt of India (along with English).

The great Maharishi Swami Mahesh Yogi from UP gave a message of peace through meditation and love all over the world. So called UP-waali Mrs Jaya Bachchan should have enough love in her heart to learn language of the state (MH) where she is living for more than 25 years.

India does not have a national language; check your facts - do some googling. Hindi is only an official language of the Central govt along with English.
Hindi is the most spoken language in India (thanks to the uncontrolled birth rate in the Hindi belt). BUt it is still not the language of the majority (i.e. less than 50% of India's population speaks Hindi).
