We should speak as many language
by humari awaz on Sep 11, 2008 01:22 AM

am born in mumbai. I am Marathi, but I speak more gujarathi. Because most of my friends are gujarati. My most of neighbor are gujarati.
I speak hindi, gujarati, marathi, english, punjabi and some tamil.
(I do know many programming language because I am programmer.)

So my point is there nothing wrong learning many languages, but even though I am marathi I respect other languages.
But that stupid Jaya. I will encourage her to speak other languages as well, it is good for her because sh is in film industry. This will help her.
I think Jaya wanted some cheap publicity, but cheap publicity is not that cheap. Mr. Raj will teach her good lesson.

Raj , I think you should also think about other issues like farmer, poverty etc..

It is not regionalism but an issue of sensitivity to local culture.

Yes, Hindi is our national language and we can speak our own language anywhere in democratic nation such as India. BTW, no language is inferior and we can help india if we show some open mind to respect local culture whereever we live and demonstrate warmth.

The great Maharishi Swami Mahesh Yogi from UP gave a message of peace through meditation and love all over the world. So called UP-waali Mrs Jaya Bachchan should have love in her heart to learn language of the state (MH) where she is living for more than 30 years. Please note that Mrs Bachchan spent her childhood in Maharashtra (Nagpur) and then in Bhopal (MP). I am not sure how she becomes UP waali at first place.

I am proud of superstar (Thalaivar) Rajnikaant (Shivajirao Gaekwad) who is in fact a Maratha, but is more fluent in local languages such as Kannada and Tamil of Tamilnadu where he lives. I am also truly proud of Tamils who lovingly accepted Rajnikaant who was born in a Maratha family in Karnataka, India. Rajnikant also has married a south Indian female. I am proud of Rajni's level of regional integrity.

Here are some good examples of Non-Maharashtrians speaking fluent Marathi include Gujju Mohan Dharia (Social Leader, Mahad, MH), Gujju Praful Patel (Union Minister), Gujju Lalchand Hirachand (Premier Padmini company owner) and Rajasthani Dhoot brothers (Videocon).
It is important to respect local culture and learn local language wherever we settle. Let's grow up & show open mind to learn local Bhasha

Love for state where you earn, eat, breath and live
by Kande Pohe on Sep 10, 2008 08:37 PM

Love for state where you earn, eat, breath and live:
Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city in Maharashtra state of India and immigrants from several other states have prospered in Mumbai. Large portion of Mumbai population is tolerant & try to accomodate people from other places. There was helping all around in Mumbai during the huge rain storm in past. The immigrants should not mind learning Marathi, a local language of
Maharashtra. Afterall we breath air of Maharashtra state for 24*7 and earn our living in Maharashtra. I think there is a room for demonstrating our sensitivity to local culture. It will NOT hurt us my fellow Indians. Has it hurt (NRIs) Indians who settled in Europe and learned local languages of Europe? Mumbai people with their adaptive spirit will continue providing better value & making a huge contribution to Indian economy. Yes, my ancestors came to Maharashtra from other state of India. I love my India and Maharshtra where I earn my living.

With love and not hatred for Aamchi Mumbai,

both of them look like a rotten dog waste on the street.
both of them are equally traitor who are trying very hard to split our nation and its people.
both of them are equally money minded beggers.
both of them are fooling maharashtrian people by their cheap tricks.
may be... both are illegitimate child of unknown father.

Good examples of local sensitivity
by Kande Pohe on Sep 09, 2008 07:30 PM  | Hide replies

Here are some good examples of sensitivity to local culture:

I have met a Tamil settled in Mumbai who speaks fluent Marathi. I also have met Keralite Christian settled in Mumbai who speaks fluent Marathi. I also know a Maharashtrian friend raised in Mumbai and settled in Chennai, who speaks fluent Tamil. I also know a Maharashtrian friend born in Maharashtra and settled in Hyderabad, who speaks fluent Telagu. I have met a second generation Gujju guy in Chennai whose Tamil is better than his Gujarati. I have met a Gujarati family from Mumbai who settled in South Africa and is now fluent in South African native language. Let us not forget that the great Raj Kapoor attended Marathi School for 2 years in his childhood.

It is important to respect local culture and learn local language wherever we settle. Let's grow up and show some open mind to learn local languages. My dear Indians, it will help all of us and definately not hurt local feelings.
I love India and truly respect it's diversity in sub cultures and languages.

Excerpt from Sujata Anandan's well researched article:

Even the maverick Govinda Ahuja (who hails from Ms Bachchan’s own world) speaks Marathi well enough to give television interviews in that language and I was pretty impressed by Akshay Kumar, too, who occasionally spoke chaste Marathi to contestants on the Khatron Ke Khiladi show shot in South Africa. Who compelled him to either learn or speak Marathi? And he has lived either abroad or in Delhi most of his life!

I speak five languages to varying degrees of fluency myself.

But by trying to score brownie points off Raj Thackeray, Jaya Bachchan has played straight into his hands and helped both the Sena and the MNS vindicate their stand against uttar bharatiyas — that they stubbornly refuse to assimilate or integrate and destroy the culture of others. However, I believe Ms Bachchan is no uttar bharatiya; only pretending to be one. She is Bengali with roots in the winter capital of Maharashtra. And if she cannot be true to those origins, she certainly cannot be expected to have the interests of the people of her adopted State at heart.

But denial of gratitude for things past seems to be a habit with Ms Bachchan. Not very long ago, she was so critical about the Nehru-Gandhis that her illustrious husband was compelled to publicly upbraid her for that insult offered to Sonia Gandhi for no rhyme or reason.
