criticism is the easiest job in democracy. Even RD Burman was accused of plagiarism a few times, in spite of the fact that each of his inspired songs carry a distinct stamp of his own. Each generation has its own sound. Only a few have produced such sound that have crossed generations, ARR is one of them. Be it "Water" or "Yuvraaj", he is versatile.

by Kumar Chakraborthy on Oct 20, 2008 01:27 PM  | Hide replies

Rehman is the ultimate in Indian music. No others could match his calibre, popularity etc. Forget all those yesteryears M.Ds. like R.D,S.D,L.P,K.A etc. Rehman the no.1 all time. Even after 100 yrs. Rehman will be remembered But not the others. So Rehman is Rehman. No substitutes. Others will come & go. But Rehman will stay on & on. Already he has given numerous hits. Still more to come. So the ultimate is Indian music starts with Rehman and will end with Rehman.

No doubt Rehman is a good music director. But do not go overboard with your praises. There were excellent music directors in the past and more will come in future. Music will not end with any one, however great he may be. No one is indispensable.

But rahman's is music done well when films like dilse are not done well. open the history once. Let us see how may National awards will get himesh in coming years. Where as rahman got it in his first release. in your language Roja rocks...all over india. isn't it? and he conitnues his bagging both national, state awards also. In hereos shahrukh&Kamal got the most of the awards, where as Rahman is the only music director who got most no of awards both state and national. check it out

ARR and Illayaraja
by venkatesh yogesh on Oct 20, 2008 12:59 PM  | Hide replies

ARR is no doubt a wonderful music director to cherish, but not all songs. His class was in 90's back to Roja and bombay times. Viswavidata was one of the masterpiece. However, I am a big fan of the one and only legend, Maestro Illayaraja.

The only director who composes music with original orchestra. it requires lot of skills to extract the music from musicians.

ARR renovated the music according to the trend of youth. But Illayaraja, symphony specialists as compared to modern day beethoven.

cheers.

So do you think Illayaraja's songs are great...u dud head dont even accept that IR never gave credit to his artists instead took all to himself. I wonder why IR is letting his son Yuvan to follow the tracks of AR, isn't that a secret admiration..
AR isn't the sound engr instead works well with sound engrs and also knows the technique in engineering unlike IR who just writes and lets it to arrangers and take all accolades. SELFISH.
