Ranjith Nair.... There is no point in figuring out errors in the article. If the author succeed in getting his point clear then he has made his ground. Is that clear ? ?

This is a discussion board and in the flow of thoughts mind works faster than your writing ability. Therefore such mistakes are bound to take place, and it should not be a matter of concern and for this small reasons one should not hurt or insult other. Moreover, language is nobody's property - you may be good in English and the other may be in Hindi, Bengali,Marathi..... Hurting someone in the public board shows meanness and ego of a person and at times such comments play a major role in dividing Society(s). Everyone of us should restrain ourselves from these silly acts. Thanks

Ranjith Nair, Wren and Martin is no longer the only grammar reference book. It has become obsolete.
So go take a ride and jump into a lake along with your wren and martin.

ranjit.. instead of making an open remak like this towards Arthur in the common forum, decency calls for writing to him a personal mail or sending a mail to the editor of Rediff. you are no better than the author - after all ettiquets and decency counts in everything. by the way - we understood what Arthur was trying to say. you may now find out mistakes in my posting.

Good going Ranjith ! As professional jourmalists who write, and not collects news, he should pay particular attention to language.
I totally agree with Ranjith Nair. After all, a read from even Times of India does have some spell mistakes, and in the past, there were people who learnt steno and the english language by readind and re-reading reputed english newspapers.
Ashaji and Lataji are the best, if not the only gift to the music world which will never go away for centuries together. Kishoreda made a life and his son is not so famous for reasons better known to him. But Lataji and Ashaji are always very adorable human beings.
Coming from a very humble living, they made it to the top of the Music world with their talent. Only talent counts in this field.

Mr.Rohit, please correct it 'Ashaji and Lataji were the best' you can also say they were excellent. They should really take a break and allow other young singers to sing. At their hey days they were like mumbai mafia and never allowed others to come up. They realized being best is not sufficient to stay atop. Simple logic that in 1 billion indians how only these 2 always remained top. Remember sunidhi's controversy with them. (Sunidhi however sings, dances and entertains more than them) Some maharashtrians or so emotional that they never want to hear anything bad about them. In kannada they say 'Just because father planted the tree you cant hang on it' Its ok if they entertain people who still likes them. But its unbearable that they still sing in the films. Its a mix of comedy and sadness to hear young heroins singing in the films with a shivering(afterall asha and lata are so aged now) voice!

I think people like you have forgotten that Lata and Asha have seldom been doing film playback singing in the past ten years. Both singers have surfaced with a song here and a song there in films and Lata has sung when Yash Chopra directs a movie. I don't know what makes people like you think that the sisters are still actively singing for films.

To come to the top and remain there, all persons must have stepped on some one else's toes. But it the other persons, incapability also. But you cannot deny the ability of these versatile sisters. Sunidhi's will come and go. Who remembers Sunidhi's songs?? and who can forget Ashadi's and Latajii's songs. That is the difference.

Hi ravi, You are entirely wrong. Do you think the people are so dumb that they will not understand the class of music? Nobody can ever dare to compare with Asha or Lata di with somebody else. Let Sunidhi become 70 yrs old and then we will see how much she can dance or sing. Anyway you forgot to remember that despite being a good singer Sunidhi use to were hot dresses to attract more people in her show.

I have seen Sunidhi in concert. Yes she dances but I believe that she does lip synching and it is not a live concert as one would make you believe. And in the younger days of Asha and Lata singers did not dance. All this dancing came not long ago once reality shows started and TV became prominent. Lata and Asha started with their concerts way late into their 60's. You did not expect them to dance and sing live. It is to Asha's credit that she has that incredible energy on stage even at 75 and she still moves when she sings. I do not go to lata and asha's concerts to see them dance. I go to see their real live singing.
a true legend, asha has proved beyond doubt her versitality, no one today has her range, skill or talent. she still sings beautifully and thanx to some fm channels, they still havethe olden goldies, which are far better than the cacophony of today. can anyone from today's generation remember or even claim to know "asha and o.p. nayyar" combo? there will never be another. singers may come and go, but they will stay forever

Shut up!!! You Monkey, We are concerned about music and singers, not the personal lives. Can you tell me how much you follow up Swami Vivekananda's advices in your personal life? So please stop commenting on what you do not understand. Never think that asking some bullsh*t questions will make you a sensible and smart person.

Very rightly said, Madam. Indeed she's the best. I am no connoisseur of music but whenever one hears her sing, one feels very good. I rate her better than any other Indian singer (both genders combined).
Hats off to Asha di.At this age she can still sing and dance so graciouscly on the stage. Her voise is so melodious, soothing and haunting that you feel like keep on listening to her songs for ever. Her duets especially with Kishore and Rafi was something to be treasured.I remember her public performance sometime back in Houstan - USA. I was there and it was one of my best days in my life. It was full paisa wasool.
Compare her to present day crop of singers especially Himesh ( Ugh!!!)and you will see that the present day singers are not a patch on her.Even today she can beat them hollow. The present day singers will be forgotten soon.A couple of years and nobody will remember them. but real gems like Asha, Lata, Kishore, Rafi, Mannadey,Mukesh Geeta Dutt will be remembered for ever.Their songs will be remembered by all generations.
I am a Generetion Next woman and a youth of todays generation and if I feel that Asha is go good then what could have people of earlier generations especially in 60s,70s,80s and 90s have felt. They must have been 7th heaven.
I would like Asha di to keep singing for as along as she can so that Hum Logon Ka Ji Bhar Jaye. God bless you Ashs.

At the age of 16, she eloped with 31-year old Ganpatrao Bhosle (1916-1966), marrying him against her family's wishes. Ganpatrao was sister Lata's personal secretary. The marriage failed miserably. Her husband and in-laws mistreated her. After a few years of marriage, Bhosle was turned out (around 1960) by a suspicious Ganpatrao[6] and she went to her maternal home with two children and pregnant with her third child, Anand. She continued to sing in films to earn money.

He was Mr. Ganpat Bhosale. He married him when she was 16 and he was 31 that created rift in the Mangeshkar family (i mean between Asha and all others).
