Long live Asha Didi!!!!
by mallaiah anchoori on Apr 18, 2008 04:41 PM

The two flowers of the same stem of music-Latha and Asha are the real gems to the Goddess of Indian music who will be eternally remembered by all music lovers world-wide.It is very heartening to note that Ashaji is still in her stead and proves as boisterous as she used to be 30 years back. Her metallic voice with a peculiar and typical melody comparable exactly with that of S.Janaki of Telugu field has mesmerising & enchanting effect on the audience leaving many a times to a genuine doubt as to whether at all she far exceeded her elder sister Latha. Her observation as to super imposition of music over the already recorded songs is 100% correct. That team spirit of rendering a song with due synchronisation of every aspect of rendition is no more & the present day music is supplantary to the song instead of being supplementary. Precisely for this reason, the to-day's songs are no more remembered the moment you come out of the cinema hall-not to speak of listening to them again and again as in case of the old songs. Her remarks are very apt and worth noting by fast music directors. Previously,we copied the tunes of western music for good in contrast to the deafening meaningless drumpet sounds of the latest music whereat you would hardly be able to listen to the literature and meaning of the song. And for a versatile singer like Asha who can sing ,with equal ease, in other Indian languages too,it is but natural to feel suffocative with the present trends of music. Long live Ashaji !

Agreed Lata is the most gifted lady singer that india cud ever produce, but the very talented Suman Kalyanpur was not very behind. Rather she was a perfect alternative for the super Lataji's voice. Hear SD Burman's "Na Tum Hamein Jano" female version, I bet even today people feel that it is sung by Lata. The reality being it was rendered by Suman. But she never cut an ice because people thought she copied Lata's style of singing. Lata flourished on her own might. She had the guts & the commanding to fight with Shanker Jai Kishen, SD Burman & Mohd Rafi & still flourish in business. Lata is a legend because she has been gifted with a voice which when sung at higher Octaves sounds double yummy (normally a women's voice cracks if she sings on too high a pitch)
Unfortunately the same can't be said for her other siblings Asha & Usha.. Ashs succeeded just because she forged alliances with OP Nayyar & then dump him for RD Burman.. If Asha has anything to show in her kitty, its purely what she earned through OP Nayyar & RD Burman .. & pls spare me some momentary flashes of Umrao Jaan or Kajal... She tried in vain to convince hardcore Lata loyalists like Madan Mohan, Naushad or Shankar JaiKishen to get some work...
So we can't club the two sisters together.. Where Lata was divine.. Asha saucceded filling the void left by Geeta Dutt & Shamshad begum... & encashing all oppurtunities left after her legendary sister fought... Asha sang for 4 years with SD Burman when Lata refused to sing

(continued)for him...
Thankfully the days of those great singers r over now, Be it Lata or Kishore or Rafi or Yesudas.. all of them possessed a voice so perfect that lesser mortals never got a chance to sings.. come on .. 1947-1986 = 30 years & we got just a bunch of singers... now with the trash being served we have all & sundry singing.. be it the horrible Sunidhi Chauhan or the equally horrible KK & Kailash.. We hv lost count of the total number of singers Bollywood has.. & with every new reality show winnner.. one singer is born... Any one can become a singer :D even I can:D ... True liberaliuzation!

During the Rafi, Mukesh and Kishore era were there any other singers. ofcourse they were the best in the field. even today there is no one equalling them, not even sonu nigam, or Udit Narayan, or for that matter any one.

Probably somebody has yet to be born.

They are not crocodiles. Pedestrian voices could not match with the Ferrari like power

Asha is the one who introduced "singing through nose" in Bollywood. For the last 5 years atleast her voice is wobbling and someone pls advise her to retire forever. The worst thing is she is betraying the old musicians by singing the dirty Remix songs.
ASHA
this is the time of BIPASHA
your singing is TAMASHA

Kackson, ur name reminds me of the great musical superstar, but alas u have no music sense, undoubtedly Asha is a genius and the most versatile playback singer India has ever produced. At the age of 75 she can match her voice with actresses one third of her age. Her singing is not tamasha, she can even sing for Bipasha

Mr. Nakar Dara

Do you know anything when does a person retire???

When either he feels he/she is not performing well or others feel he/she is not performing well!

If you think that she (Asha Bhonsle) isn't performing well then atleast read the article before listening/commenting on any of his song or singing.

Article states that:
"She performed on Thursday at Carnegie Hall to an audience who gave her a deafening ovation, again and again throughout the three hour show."

If you know the meaning of the word Ovation then it's very good for you to understand what I am trying to state with this post...

If not check the meining of it and atleast don't be prejudice..

P.S. if you think you are right then please open your eyes and see there are other people who really admire legends!

Classical siinging aspect of Ashatai
by Jolly Maker on Apr 18, 2008 04:02 PM  | Hide replies

Unfortunately, Ashatai is known more for the fast songs that she has sung, but very few are aware that she is perhaps one of the most accomplished classical singer ever, with mastert over Thumri, Natya Sangit, Gazal, Bhajan, etc.

That is why it pains to hear comments such as "Asha Rocks". I think she deserves better words.

Asha Bhosale, a Gift of God to us.
by arun naik on Apr 18, 2008 03:35 PM  | Hide replies

our mother land India produced many gems,Ashadi is one of them. At this age of 75 her voice is so melodius and keep us to hear her more and more. We have heard her songs specially old song hundred times but still we are not satisfied bcos her voice touches our minds, spreads vibrations through our minds melodously.
It is painful that in this coloum some persons? ask unwanted/unrelated questions about Ashidi. But it is not their fault, it is their culture through which they come from. When we believe that there is a God, then there must be also demon.
Long live Ashadi. We wish that our future generations will also be fortunate to hear you.

Ashadi is a Legend no doubt but age takes its own toll.. its time they rested espcialy Lata sings with prominent quiver in her aged voice typical of old people. They should only grace the occasion with their presence not by singing with fervour !!!

They were excellent but now they have past their prime. They should really take a break and allow other young singers to sing. At their hey days they were like mumbai mafia and never allowed others to come up. They realized being best is not sufficient to stay atop. Simple logic that in 1 billion indians how only these 2 always remained top. Some maharashtrians or so emotional that they never want to hear anything bad about them.
In kannada they say 'Just because father planted the tree you cant hang on it'
Its ok if they entertain people who still likes them. But its unbearable that they still sing in the films. Its a mix of comedy and sadness to hear young heroins singing in the films with a shivering(afterall asha and lata are so aged now) voice!

Chanakya
singing versus acting
by Chanakya on Apr 18, 2008 03:01 PM  | Hide replies

once upon a time, we were very much blessed with talented actors (Raj Kapoor, Raj Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Waheeda Rehman, Meena Kumari, Vaijayanti mala, etc.etc.) and equivalently melodeous/talented singers (Rafi Saab, Kishoreji, Manna-dey, Mukeshji, Lata-di, Asha-di etc.etc.) making beautiful, praiseworthy cinemas with limited technology cameras and musical instruments. Those were the years which produced and presented the most beautiful films to the bollywood, worth watching even today repeatedly.
However, most of todays bollywoods films have become exposure of female body, sex, crime, etc. making it filthier than the real happening in the world. Only one solace is that certain films run for its melodeous songs - thanks to the upcoming/hardworking and talented singers..

with due respect to the oldies, I find that the general standard of movies have improved a lot over old times. I won't see 99% of the old movies (Raj Kapoor, Raj Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Waheeda Rehman, Meena Kumari, Vaijayanti mala, etc.etc.) even free of cost. Of course, I won't see 95% of today's movies also free of cost. but that's a 400% improvement.. Correct?
