Dear Prabhakar Krishna,

You see true fans or appreciators of an artist will always stay with him through thick and thin. What if a movie of his does not do well or is even bad? I am not in a position to directly comment on Baba because I have not watched it. But if many actors who give a single hit in many years (who remain one hit wonders) cannot become big stars or superstars, so will a superstar or megastar not become small in any manner in case a movie or two of his flops at the box office. It also shows that Rajini fans are all not blind, they only want to accept what is good, even if he is their favourite actor. You see, even if I momentarily concede that Baba was both a bad movie and hence a flop (this in the face of some who are claiming that ultimately Baba's collections were substantial to make it a hit -- I am not for or against that argument), it only proves that his fan base does not consist of blind or illogical followers. It means that the audience is the king and they only make an actor a star or superstar. So this very audience has rightly rejected Baba in case it was a badly made and acted movie of Rajini. But I thank you for asking this challenging question for it helps facts to be represented correctly and arguments to be taken and accepted in the right perspective. By the way, to repeat, I am not a Rajini-hater, am not a very avid or rabid fan of his, I just like some of his movies and consider him a good actor. Naseer is my favourite now.

does that make you trash ?? take it easy dude, its simple entertainment to people..you don't have to judge for others, you don't like it suit yourself.i did not find anything great about the movie either but it does not mean i want everybody else to reflect my views either..if every movie is made realistic then that would be boring too, rajni adds variety to movie entertainment

Kartik,

Do your favourite actors wear colourless dresses which earns them a certificate from you that they are great actors. What is cinema that too commercial cinema without colour. Go see a movie like Khuddar where in the song 'Angrezi mein kehtey hain' Amitabh makes all sorts of faces (what could the poor man do, his audiences like you, love him doing that and having to earn his wages, he simply obeyed the directions of his dance director and film director/producer), which promptly reminded not just me but scores of avid cine lovers of the acts and deeds of jungle monkeys, lemurs and chimpanzees. Well our views never mattered because Khuddar was a big hit. Similarly, any actor, including Rajini is govered by both public taste and the demands of the producer/director and he follows their dictat. He did so in Sivaji, pulling of impossible stunts, wearing thousands of colourful costumes, mind you, those sets and dresses were really good, rather one of the strong points of this movie which is otherwise not very strong in the story department (because the moral element is there, but the surprise element is missing). The same has been lapped up by eager audiences regardless of region, language or country/continent. Why should this bother you, this movie is also a good earner of foreign exchange for India. You pray that your favourite actor delivers a bigger hit than this bringing benefit to the country economically if not intellectually.

Ganesh,

If you think that a journo rubbishing an actor's performances is a true film critic, then I would retort that that guy is not a true critic at all. Criticise he can by all means, but based on merits, no one can deny that Rajini has acted outstandingly in some movies, so sure, in comparison to those performances, his performance in Sivaji or other commercial ones like Muthu can be criticised. But to be outright dismissive is absolutely nonsensical. Don't fall into the traps of such people. You might have appreciated reviews of Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag which was criticised as the worst movie and also Amitabh's performance as being the worst etc. (review by Khalid Mohd in Hindustan Times on the Sunday following Aag's release), it definitely did not mean that RGV is a bad director, (he gave us both Shiva and Rangeela, did he not?) and also that Amitabh is a bad actor... he too has done some good movies... so let us leave the argument at that.

East or West Rajni is the Best

Even at 57, he still rocks and lift the movie on his shoulders.

No one can even imagine of wat Rajni do, on-screen. For example :

Telugu Version of Sivaji was released in Andhra Pradesh in 300 theatres which no one can imagine off.

Please think and tell me whether any Indian actor is having such capacity to release their movies dubbed in other language and release in 300 theatres, forget about 300 , not even in 30 that any Indian actor can release their movies.

Any answer guys.

Q for all Biharis and UP Wallahs - How come all of you are mostly Ugly and black (almost 100%). Is it because ur parents are black and ugly too ?? I have been to Tamil Nadu once and noticed that even tho many people are black they are atleast decent looking and atleast wear deodorant and are intelligent people (Inspite of the fact that many of them do crazy things to worship their stars!!).
And also so many Tamilians are really fair too.

But how come ALL Biharis are dark and ugly. Why? I want to understand. Just my curiosity :):) No offense because you cant to anything about it. Atleast try to wear deodarant, and put some cream. That way you will atleast wont look like MONKEYS :):)

Rajni

Rajnikanth came in to the Tamil film industry through director K. Balachandar. He brought with him his own style of acting and dialog delivery which was considered different. He started doing bad boy roles and graduated to Hero Roles. It was during this phase, Rajni proved as an actor. Till 1987-88, He was doing varied roles with some really credible performances - though his gestures and mannerisms were there but his acting prowess showed. During this time, Rajni's popularity grew leaps and bounds - This was further enhanced by his humble and kind nature. He was then different from other actors. He was a simple man in a White Kurta Pyjama in a White Premier Padmini car, deviod of any Hero antics in personal life.

More than his on screen persona - his off screen persona made him bigger. Through his charity and fan clubs Rajni started reaching out to the masses. Hes not a Tamilian - He still speaks Tamil with an Accent, but he reached the hearts of people. His film were pure entertainment which starting from a 6 year old to 80 year old can watch.

The best part is, he never claims that he is a great actor, superstar etc. He knows his limitations in acting very well. Knowing your limitations is important to be successful.

I am not a fan of Rajni for that matter no one - I enjoy movies which appeals to me - Genre does not matter.

Dude Karthik

I just wrote what i felt about Rajnikanth. He need not be my mamma or chacha for that. If mamma and chacha writes good things, its not a big deal cos they have a vested interest. But so many virtual unknowns write good things about a person, then that shows there is something good about that person.
He is a public figure my parents are not so no point writing about them here.I like Rajnikanth's movies for the sheer entertainment it offers. We accept Superman's antics - why not Rajnikanth. We accepeted Krish didnt we!!!!
BTW he is an APE - A PERSON of EXCELLENCE.

Thanks for the comment Karthik Dude

Kartik,

by the same token, why don't you quit this topic and do something constructive to further your own intellect, than just to log in merely for the sake of blindly criticising Rajinikanth whom you don't seem to like. Fine if you didn't like him, but don't blind call someone an ape etc. This is because Rajini has both an on-screen and off-screen persona and his charity and other good deeds are for real. You don't either seem to have properly read or understood Prakash Mohanasundaram's post. read it carefully before blindly voicing your opinions. It is true that Thalaivar is a non-tamilian masquerading with a Tamilian name and is voicing useless opinions. Don't support him and also feel free to criticise or praise anyone or anything, but based on pure facts. Have you seen Sivaji either in Tamil or Telugu, if you have then you can certainly comment based on your experience as a movie watcher. Otherwise your criticism sounds vague and worse, vain.
