Remake of Doghi
by n n on Oct 14, 2007 09:36 PM

This movie is a remake of the original Marathi movie starring Sonali Kulkarni. I caught this movie on DD channel with subtitles in English. It's an awesome movie, gripping and heartwrenching. Sonali Kulkarni as also the role essayed by the elder sister and mother are fantastic. You need to watch the original movie. It's mindblowing!

what does this movie convey grab the opportunity to save u'r family from poverty even if it amounts to becoming a prostitute
we have 100's of small town girls coming to metros they work as maids or Cleaners or what not
but what this movie is showing is choose the more money making disrespectful profession and may be u can become a millionaires wife.
this movie conveys -- compromise (in any way) to city life an u r not a looser

daag my foot!

well....i agree with raja sen on this review to some extent. trying to be socially relevant, but again going back to stereotypes, talking about a girl's "vishudhhi" and stuff. looked like a male chauvinist's take on feminism. another big budget production stumbling.
why dont u concentrate on the film, script and concept when u hav all this money? instead of spending on stars and stupid songs. karan johar at least pulls off lavish songs.

it was made a weepie, but u never even felt like weeping. i did feel like booing at some scenes. and a very convenient ending, hah?

and then there's brand abhishek bachchan.....who is the saviour to the 'daag lagi chunari'.....sad!

cant yashraj do without one of the bachchans these days?

and then the yashrajification of the whole movie spoils it.

Its bad to make comments like this i believe. One flop doesnt mean anything...If u r guided by similar judgements then i think u r too immature to comment even.Good Luck!!!

Its not a bad movie
by mamata a on Oct 14, 2007 06:34 PM  | Hide replies

I dont agree the review. The performance by Rani and Konkona is quite good. Its not 'regressive' - It just tells the story of a girl who didnt hv the opportunity to complete her studies but it also gives the message that an educated girl doesnt hv to resort to that lifestyle. Also, it gives the message that despite bad experiences, theres always a chance to come out of it and lead a decent respectful life.

Take it easy in life.. there is nothing wrong with being a sex worker so long as one can manage ones consceience.Everything is justifiable in the desparation / struggle for survival.

Well well!! Nothing wrong for you but did you not give a thought on how a woman leads a hell of a life being a sex worker? I believe all sex workers are either forced to choose this or entered this profession for family without any other choice to make.
Keep this kind of opinion to yourself only.

Well Mr. Tru Indian dont sleep in your bed and dont treat only your house and the system as your world. This is one of largest professions in India whether one accepts or not. It takes different forms - some do it for money and some do it for favors and even you might be doing it mentally with several different woman. Please get out of that belief that all sex workers are forced to choose. Even cambridge students are also choosing it - beleive it or not when you can submit your morality in your office and work like a dog ignoring your life I dont see much difference the way those people live. Lets give every one a chance to choose their lives. Another interesting thing for you - the porn business on net is one of the biggest businesses and as a tru Indian you should also understand that this is a well flourished business in ancient india and practiced as a professsion. Now a days so called hypocrats like you have joined the band wagon to degrade sex and sex workers. So what do you want people to do when they are not educated -- they should die of hunger or work and live in slums because people like you beleive that they cannot earn money. Let every one have their own lives and lets start respecting them....One other interesting fact for you...Ever did it occur to you that it is your body and you can do what ever you want to do till the time it doesn't hurt any one ...Isn't it a fundamental right????...Netherlands is the only country which had given such right to thier woman.
