Kireedam is made suited for Tamil
by Ram Prasad on Jul 24, 2007 11:40 AM  | Hide replies

Keralites are used to and accept tragic ending in movies. Tamil viewers are not used to the concept of a losing hero (Cheran's recent movie is one best example. So, I guess director Vijay made a wise thing by downplaying the "defeat" and making it suttle. Kireedam is afterall a "watchable" Ajith movie after a long long time. Keep it up Ajith.

Maheswaran sir,

Frankly I don't know what you are talking about, and the movie names you mention are either unheard of here or yet to be made.

I am not so narrowminded to claim that only Malayalam movies are the source of good stories. For instance 'Thalavattom' starring Mohanlal is the remake of 'One flew over the Kukkoos nest' - the whole world knows about that. But just watch the execution and Mohanlal's acting - on par with Jack Nicolson in the original.

Not hiding the fact that Rajni has a large fan-following in Kerala. But what they look for in a Rajni movie is not acting - but some funny dialogues, punch lines, superhuman acts. They won't stand it if Mohalal tries to do that - because they expect ACTING from him. So your line of 72 theatres releasing Sivaji is plain brand-selling and money making - not much to do with quality of cinema as such.

And please know that there are promising directors other than Kamal, Blessy (actually a new comer) and Sathyan. You should know about Lal Jose (who crafted Classmates), Sibi Malayil (who made the original Kireedom), Srinivasan and of course veterans like Fazil, Hariharan etc are still active. We carry with us the heritage of such stalwarts as Bharathan, Padmarajan and Aravindan.

With your seemingly good reading of current movie-scenario, I am rather surprised that you think mammoth budgets are necessary for good movies to be produced.

Blessy is a new comer,he has directed only three films..Though Laljose had made one or two bad movies,he is coming up with brilliant flicks like the recent arabikatha.
Vikram is having the remake rights of Blessy's Kazcha and Lal Jose's chandupottu but he's afraid to make those films..since stardom in tamil nadu is depending only on success and not in experiments. That's the only reason why ajith decided to spoil a classic...just go and watch the climax scene of kireedam(Malayalam) in you tube.

There are some other brilliant directors too...like shyamaprasad, roshan andrews,Albert,Major Ravi,Amal Neerad,v.k.prakash(though his commercial ventures are flops).
Malayalam classics are being watched and appreciated all over the world...Thats how Adoor gopalakrishnan becoming the best director of present india along with Budhadeb das gupta

Movies

Though I'm not a mallu, I feel that mallu movies are way ahead in terms of substance and treatment than Tamil movies. Tamil movies are loud, hyperbolic, melodramatic etc. Even the song and dance sequencs are overdone. They just go overboard in anything they do. The Tamil audiences don't appreciate subtlety. They need a loads of sentiment, emotion, melodrama, dialogs as strong as rocket fuel, and 1 buck 2 buck overaction.(It means if an actor is given 1 buck, he will act for 2 bucks instead) for a film to digest. Mallu movies are very pleasing to the elite. Now some guys will start naming films like Mozhi. What I mean is the percentage of classy movies is microminimal in Tamil. And the percentage of loud, overacted movies is micrminimal in Malayalam. Neighbouring states, but I wonder why they's so much stark dissimilarity in taste.

For instance jus look at Rajini. He is a 1 buck 4 buck actor. If he does not do 4 rupee action for 1 rupee he gets, the Tamil audience will not accept him. Subtlety, sophistication and Tamilians? They never go together.

Maheshwaran Anna, I can only pity your ignorance.

If you think the 'golden era' of Malayalam movies is gone, and we devour on Tamil, dubbed Telugu and soft porn these days, just think about this: Tamils are remaking 15 - 17 year old Malayalam movies, spending crores, and hoping to make money out of it. Just think of the plight of your industry that has to dig deep in old Malayalam archives for good stories. And what a crappy job you guys do, literally murdering the original Malayalam classic. Shame on you.

Tamil movies have always had a market in Kerala. Some distributors have made money out of dubbed Telugu movies also. But we don't remake BS like Pokkiri and all. That's for you guys. A lot of class movies have come out in recent times in Malayalam - Classmates, Tanmatra, and recently Arabikkatha. With all your big mouthed talking now, we will defintely see these very movies remade in Tamil (possibly some 10 - 15 years down the line!). And your soft porn, yes there was a Shakeela era in Malayalam that ran for a few months. And you guys it seems are the greatest fans of her, remembering and worshipping her long after she's left the scene and long-forgotten by Malayalam movie-goers.

All said and done, fact is this thread is about a crappy remake of a Malayalam movie - go enjoy it rather than spending time here attacking Malayalis and thereby indirectly accepting there is no originality and creativity in your language.

You mean a mallu movie made in 17 years ago is still remaking in tamil, that means tamil film inudstry is now what mallu film industry was 17 years ago. very poor.

Only you guys can find such skewd theories of 'remaking v/s originals'! Hats off to you!

And congrats for letting the world know that you are such an idiot who thinks big budgets makes for better movies.

Your idea of a movie can never rise beyond monkey-acts, dancing up and down, some foreign locales, gravity-defying stunts and some 'punch-lines'.

We 'stupid mallus' think a movie is a bit more than the above.

Also, the reason for 'not even 1% tamils watching mallu movies' is simply this: Their IQ level is not high enough to understand and appreciate sensible stuff.

All the soft pron actresses are Tamils

None of them are from Kerala

Silk Simtha, Shakeela, Disco Saathi etc etc.

Softporn mvies ae made by a cotere, they include tamils, malayalis, telugus. No language for such movies, its dubbed into all languages.

In mainstream malayalam movies are absolutely FREEE from such scenes.

In Tamil every movie will have a rape or bathing scene.Actresses are forced to strip in mainstream TAMIL movies

Its a fact, you ask yourself you will know

i dont think any other country guys are making controversial statements in rediff message board. It is typical thinking of Indians. Indians will always support India if the fight is with other Country. State people will always support their state if the dispute is from other state. ( We all remember fight between Karnataka and Tamilnadu ). If the fight is between 2 cities our people will support their own city only. This has been the bane of India. I feel most Indians lack patriotism and most of the people doesnt every think all Indians are our brothers and sisters. Very sad to see such type of situations in India.
