What do you do if you are so touched by suffering??
>> You do not make a movie and gain name and money by that.
>> You fight for change and eliminate suffering. And do not tell me Deepa's way is another way to bring change. This is just a way to make money and name.

All these directors and movie makers are not social workers (read "samaaj sudhakaar"), they are just businessmen/women. The real workers were like Raja Ram Mohan Rai, Mahatma Gandhi, Baba Amate to name a few.

Those are the kind of great people we need, not money hungry people like Deepa.

Salam Bombay was directed by Mira Nair. Get some GK.

And what the heck is to be so proud of her??? She is not any greater than those who are exploiting poor and widows for their purposes.

Her sole aim to make this movie was to use the sufferings of people to gain name. And she has not done anything to make their lives better. I would admire Megha Patekar more than any Deepa Mehta or Mira Nair.

Megha Patekar - She is living with those poor people and taking care of them. She is fighting on their behalf. Day in and day out she is with them without any material comfort.
Deepa and Mira - They are playing in millions and name and fame which was earned on the suffering of the very people those movies were based on. These kind of people do not spend any money and time on oppressed.

Hats off to Megha and shame on Deepa and Mira.

~An Indian

Bragadeesh Srinivasan
How Touching?!
by Bragadeesh Srinivasan on Feb 10, 2007 12:09 PM  | Hide replies

How conscientious of him to switch careers just on this one meeting with a prostitute. I would have even believed it if it were not the last few lines about the movies and "scripts" that the author has authored! I am not much of a movie aficionado but "Qayamat", "Zameen", et al are really not at the pinnacle of artistic genius.
This guy is no Jiddu Krishnamurthi who attained enlightenment in Kashi. He is a wannabe Deepa Mehta (who is a wannabe Mira Nair) trying to reflect one afternoon on why the hell he came into movies and thought of this ingenious plan of rationalizing his fledgling movie career!!

desi and sanjeev im not a spokesperson for uk muslim fundamentalists
by usman khawaja on Feb 09, 2007 07:44 AM  | Hide replies

dear sirs with due respect stick to the isue of water
1. rediiff article describes how even today iin vanarasi hindu widows are forced into prostitution just as shown in water
2. the movie actually pays homage to gandhi in its last scene
3 im afraid im a bad muslim im married to a catholic woman who is french canadian and i met deepa with her , she is a very intelligent and conscientious person more so then either of you
4 if you want to know about islamic fundamentalism ask the british house of commons they think its because we british are fighting an illegal war in iraq and the same opinion has been reflected by british media .
5 im not in touch with any fundamentalists other then you guys who think trying to reform an evil custom is not reformative simply because its written somewhere
6 as for me i havent been to a mosque for ages i believe in live and let live and that applies to those poor women mentioned in the article above if you can now just answer one question ive repeatedly asked and you have evaded to give a reply by utterrring irrelevances about islam and the fact that im a muslim by name its amusing to me and other sensible people too im sure
question
WHY WAS WATER NOT ALLOWED TO BE SHOT IN INDIA IF IT IS REALLY A DEMOCRATIC SECULAR FREE COUNTRY
THANKS FOR CALLING ME A BIG BAD MOUTH ,A TALIBAN AND A SLAVE TRADER IT WAS VERY ENTERTAINING, MERCI BACO

on the same CNN prog there was a piece of info which says that the proposal to build the largest muslim mosque have opposed by the locals. you can find some of the details here
http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4153/is_20060927/ai_n16746593

so here is the conclusion the democracy does not mean that you are free to do whatever you want against the wish and the centiments of the people. if freedom to do anything is the benchmark of democracy then brits are also not the one as they are opposing your proposals to build a mosque. now what do you say abt that??

try to read carefully again without taking my IQ into account. even after that if you can't follow then you really need some help, go and get a medical check up.

RESPECTED BRIT!! you didn't ans my question, why CNN has made a programme on the muslims, you might also describe the root of French riots? if you are so candid in making a comment on others religion and society than certainly we too have a right to raise a few question about you Mr PERFECT. In a way I'm doing exactly what you have been doing here? just to know a liitle bit abt some of your grey areas, however your reaction is certainly amusing, just writing in caps will not make you sound louder.
as far as the question of being a spokesperson goes, neither I'm the one but unlike you I'm afraid of my identity.
you can try hard to distant yourself from the fundamentalist but thats the way the world see most of you today and you know it :-) :-)

water is a poem on cultural exploitation of women
fire is a wonderful movie on abuse and love depicting lesbianism and is a cult movie in the west
my favourite is earth which shows how innocent hindus and muslims suffered in 1947
