Mirrage ( water?) is Deep(a) search of Mud !
by biz Narayan on Feb 22, 2007 04:19 PM

Deep(a) search of Mud against India and innocents is portrayed as water.

In 1900 quarter of population in some areas of India dies because of faminie. in 1947, which deepa confuses well, the imperial and islamic hard heads created land of pure.

India went on... the energy is not by sympathy of the canadian leftists, these widows too participated in leaving some energy, some ideals.

Deepa wouldn;t find any of those , following british tradition she has put on some mud on these women and on India that fought with the british.

And people indeed are happy, Usman khawaja suddenly discovers his love all over the message board, he asserts that he would fight for britain, he spews venom against 'indians'.

I am not happy however. There is nothing to be thrilled about encashing the anti-india oppurtinity, deepa never said anything against the canadians funding violent groups in India.

The appeal of the Oscars
by Riaz Ahmed Shah on Jan 29, 2007 06:18 PM  | Hide replies

Of all the award shows out there ,there is a certain appeal to the Oscars that cannot be compared with. I believe one of the reasons that this is so ,is because of the voting process involved in choosing the winners. Its democratic ,as each academy member has one vote .And the members are your peers ,so they should have a better idea of what should be a good movie,a good performance etc.So you get nominated by your peers and acknowledged by the people who understands cinema. Its not a mass popularity contest, they have other awards for that (people choice awards etc ,which have there own fan following )
so you have the Actor members putting forth there thespian nominations, the director members putting forth there directorial nominations...etc ,and then everyone voting for there favourites.
Sure there are chances that once in a while truly deserving ones dont recieve the award..and the added disadvantage that the Academy members have a collective memory whereby they vote for people who got snubbed in earlier award shows...but taking all this into consideration ,its a very fair process.
Plus the results are even audited..so its almost foolproof.
Not to mention categories like animated films and other technical awards given which are ignored by the general media which bolster the technicians of cinema and makes them strive to produce better movies as a result
just my two cents. And i havent even mentioned the scientific and technical award section.
Just my two cents
and finally you wouldn't believe but,the major criticism of the Oscars by the American media is that it is too conservative( which might come as a shock to us Indians )

All the best Deepa. Water might not be the most deserving movie (or again it may be), but hey, sometimes a sense of nationalism takes over!

When is Deepa Mehta starting to make Exclusion ?
I read this on Wikipedia.
Exclusion, formerly known as Kamagata Maru, is a forthcoming movie to be directed by internationally acclaimed director, Deepa Mehta starring Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham, Seema Biswas, Kabir Bedi and well-known British actor, Terence Stamp in lead roles. Music of the movie is composed by famous Indian music composer, A. R. Rahman. The movie depicts the Komagata Maru incident, one of the most notorious "incidents" in the history of exclusion laws in Canada and the United States designed to keep out immigrants of Asian origin. The movie is set to go on floors in 2006

As for Bollywood made movies trying to win an Oscar this is how I feel:
Why does an Oscar matter?

Why does an Oscar matter?
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Thursday, January 18, 2007]

Why does an Oscar matter? Well, that%u2019s the obvious question when a worthy contender like %u2018Rang De Basanti%u2019 loses the race for top five. Mahesh Bhatt would say that gunning for an Oscar is depicting slavish mentality. He was critical of Aamir Khan when he almost won India its first Oscar with %u2018Lagaan%u2019. Especially because Aamir doesn%u2019t support any of the home made awards anyway.

Aamir on his part has always said that the manner in which the nominations and awards are decided by the Oscar academy is impressive and more or less transparent. In fact the methodology is scientific. Today, when a %u2018Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna%u2019 rakes in $3 million overseas, it is termed as the biggest Bollywood grosser ever. Just imagine, if an Indian film wins an Oscar, that number can easily stretch to $50 million for even foreigners would be keen on finding out what the film has to deserve an Oscar. It won%u2019t be easy to calculate that number in rupees on your office calculator. Right%u2026..Hmmm%u2026.

Now, %u2018Water%u2019 is part of the race. Even if it is a Canadian entry, it does have the staple John Abraham in it. The film industry shouldn%u2019t lose heart on RDB %u2018not making it%u2019 (there must be many who are rejoicing this loss right now). Instead, there ought to be a collective noise about %u2018Water%u2019. And we have enough numbers overseas to do that for us.

Whatever may be %u2018Water%u2019s%u2019 fate at the Oscars this year, it is also time for the film industry to get its act together. Why should only a producer (UTV in RDB%u2019s case) push his or her film when selected for an Oscar? Why shouldn%u2019t it be a collective responsibility of the entire film industry? And when the government has the tools to select the best film for Oscars, why doesn%u2019t the same government forward its support (both monetary as well as official assistance through ambassadors) to push the country%u2019s luck ahead? An Oscar will be a big leap for Indian films. Indian films have certainly more to offer than Satyajit Ray and Bhanu Athaiya.

It%u2019s time we took Oscars seriously rather than shrugging them aside. It%u2019s time we devised a strategy to do get in serious reckoning. It%u2019s time Indian films made their presence felt. Literally.

Please read his article above before reading my comments below.
Indian Films that want to contend for Oscars should
delete all those songs. Academy members simply do not want to put up with their time with the length of the movies. Our stars and directors also fail to appear on the American talk shows to talk and preview their movies. Look at the likes of Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz who have accent but movies like Volper is all over the place. Perhaps India should do like what UK does. Make movies in English without songs and not necessarily have any Indian content. Then they will be watched by the other Americans and foreigners who are not NRIs and who knows , one of the Bollywood produced English movies may just make it to the Oscars.RDB should have been dubbed in English minus the songs and Aamir Khan and Mehra the director should have appeared on American talk shows like David Letterman , Oprah, Jay Leno , The View. Our Bollywood only knows to run to Los Angeles. That is not enough. Most Hollywood contenders are making the rounds of all the talk shows to promote their movies.
I have alrready sent an email to Yashraj Films that they use their 2006 profits and make Dhoom 3 sequel in English with popular Indian actors and also include the likes of Angelina Jolie and George Clooney and even if it does not make it to the Oscar atleast it could make multi millions as it will be seen by others than the NRIs.
I believe that a dubbed version of Lage Raho Munnabhai without songs would have had a far better chance .

Women create problems to women more
by Uttamkumar Samanta on Jan 26, 2007 05:09 AM

The very best important issue in India (particularly) is womens are most responsible for the problems of women in a family or in a society. If there is 3 women or girls, there will be 2 groups at least.

There are lot of examples. I can give you a movie name: "thana theke aaschhi" Bengali movie staring by Uttamkumar (Arun Kumar Chatterjee) made on 1965 and still it is very true fact in woman-world now-a-days. Feminists (particularly) should not miss this type movies.

Recent days "domestic violence act" in India is fully partial, one sided and not for equality.

Deepa Mehta (director), Sabana Azmi (actress) and associates should come up with those issues rather than some cheap popularity.

Deepa Mehta and associates must be unbiased for social issues to bring into the light.
by Uttamkumar Samanta on Jan 26, 2007 02:04 AM

We look for SABANA AZMI and similar personalities to come with the same strategy to correct their own people (i mean Muslims). Otherwise who will come forward? Since lot of unseducation, religious fanatism and intollerance to other religion is there in her own people, it will be always a hope that Mrs. Azmi kind of people come forward. But most unfortunate thing is that Mrs. Azmi kind of people are very much scared of FATWA. Since that is the case then who will come forward to correct their own cummunity? Or they donot want their own community be corrected, live better and lead better life?
My second point is, is it necessary to bring some old issues of a society in the present days and look for the award. Particularly Hind religion is much more advanced as compared to the period (long before) shown in the movie. So, if DEEPA Mehta, Sabana Azmi and similar people put more attention to the present days problems and give the message how the present days' societies put their future STEPS, that is realy more desurable and meaningful.
If Deepa Mehta has gutts, do same short of movie on other religion particularly in Muslims becuase they need to do lot of correction of their community to advancement in modern days.
Similarly she should show some courage for Christians religious people who are converting poors and only help them in the name of religion.
