I agree with you anoop ...RDB was gud and all that though i didnt like the climax...Ya it was a change than the normal love stories and ancient bhagat singhs and it was cool too..but it isnt as much enough to be entering the oscars...well there is bafta too...Well I want to see water ...Ya there are really gud regional movies they should also be sent to oscars ..ur right why is it always bollywood???i like aamir but aamir's really unlucky at the oscars....first lagaan and now RDB
why r ppl sad to see rdb doesnt made into oscars shortlist. For us indian films means bollywood thats all where the hell does malayalam, tamil, telugu & bengali films stand.

Please collect the correct information before creating any stupid controversy. For you kind information few years back 2 films directed by Shankar (Jeans & Indian) and P.C.Sriram's Kuruthipunal were sent to Oscar.Couple of years back Shwas(Marathi) film was sent to the competition.Grow up baby & behave like an indian.Pls.don't show your meanness by screaming at Bollywood.I feel irrespective of language the best film should go for the contest.Hindi is not my regional language but I feel proud of Lagaan & Salaam Bombay.
Rang De Basanti was a great film and not shortlisting for best foriegn film in oscar cannot deny its greatness . The movie had a message for all of us , which of course had to be understood ( not that it preaches you kill somebody if you don't agree with somebody-as posted by one blogger ).It had a great script , great narration and great direction and ofcourse good acting performance with good music. It was according to me a landmark cinema depicting the state of affairs of current India and the state of Youth of India and a stong message was conveyed that to make your country great you should do it yourself rather than critisize it . Also this film had an impact on Indian youth , we can see the difference in terms of the Judgement of long pending cases like Jessica and Priyadarshini murder cases . This had made people beleive in themselves . Earlier I recall there was a general perception that you cannot get a fair trial if you are against some bigwigs . Though this is just a small instance and a lot of miles to travel , I think this film was a sort of pathfinder for us and it will go a long distance into our history . This film has acheived much more than receiving an nomination or matter of fact the Oscar itself . It had AWKEN A GENERATION , as stated in the motto of the film AN GENERATION AWAKENS
a film like water had to nominated as a canadian entry. can we not understand that we are human beings and not Gods, that we are the ones who drew our lines and can erase it. do we have to follow the crowd and listen to the customs and rule that someone made for his/her comfort that gets used to get some two bit mileage .
This movie had no business to be in the race in the first place. The movie was probably there in the list for political reasons and all the HYPE that surrounds the publicity hungry Ameer Khan.
It was B grade movie that did not deserve any accolades.
The Oscar selection committee has shown that it can not be conned by such stupid movies.

n is one person who keeps away from the media which is busy covering SRK,SalmanThe Bachchans,Aishwarya Rai and the like.Except during the time when he took part in the anti dam protests Aamir rarely seeks publicity.Simply because his film is out of the Oscar race you have no right to slander him and his film[by saying that it was entered for political reasons].To me RDB is still one of the best Hindi films of 2006.It has won a nomination from the BAFTA committee and that is not a joke. What is a joke is the European looking Lisa Ray as the Banaras widow in Water and a hopelessly miscast John Abraham. But Water and its woman-centric theme has worked for Americans whereas the freedom fighters shown in RDB means little to them.In my book RDB is still a terrific film just as Paheli was though it too did not get nominated at the Oscars[Paheli was the official entry in 2005 and then too some people talked of SRK influencing the Congress led govt.].Indians just love to pull down people, especially when they are down. Thanks,L.S

well depends on the way tat u look at it..... for the youth of india who are sick and tired of all this corruption and politics..it was an eye-opener....it showed that values do not go out of the window with a change in times... more so that it was good enough to inspire people to make a difference....which resulted in the ruling to the jessica lal murder case, protests against reservations and a lot more....so it was definetly a b-grade movie.... also because india's public is prone to make useless people demi-gods like raj kumar, amitabh bachan and others..........
Rang De Basanti is definitely the best movie of 2006.I can even agree to call it one of the bests that Bollywood has ever produced. But one must understand that the only Indian to win an Oscar is Satyajit Roy. And it is evident that Bollywood has not reached the Satyajit Lavel as yet.

I applaud Bengali cinema..some of the best films to come from the "North" (or should i say north east?) came from Bengali cinema... Ray was a master craftsman.
Ardh Satya, Drohkaal, Naseem, Kannathil Muthamittan(A Mani Rathnam film),Iqbal, Mr and Mrs Iyer... could have made it!!! It's not abt commercial success, we should send a film with an universal appeal. The film should touch the minds of a global audience. The movies which won Oscars before in the foregign category where All abt mother, Cinema Paradisso, No man's Land etc. appeals to a vast variety of audience. We indians can indentify with the storylines of these French, Italian or Bosnian Films. We are blessed with so many regional language films which won awards across the globe. Most of us in india have ever even heard of Film Makers like Shaji N karun or Murali Nair who have made films which won awards in Cannes Film Festival. Iam nt saying Rang De Basanti is a bad film, it's a well made film no doubts. But there were better films, we should explore more and identify the best. We should get rid of this North India versus South India ego clashes and lobbying.

Because it was unrealistic. However, the movie was very good and I enjoyed it well.

realism is not a concern for Oscar and for that matter any movie competition.movies can be of any theme or unrealistic ideas.
Why brood for an oscar when our movies and our culture are half understood in an international gathering.our movies potray all that happens in our nation and sends out a message for the public to catch and respond,a good responce from the public in practical sense is in itself an oscar to the nation.
