Amitabh Bachchan's greatness - a different view
by Setu Madhavan on Feb 26, 2007 10:33 PM  | Hide replies

Lets enjoy Amitabh's films while we still can.

All the fans standing outside 'Pratiksha' waiting for his darshan did not translate into money when Amitabh was down and wanted it most.
When Amitji lay in financial ruin, The magic was lost. The money was gone. Fans deserted him in droves. Amitabh was alone. (Mein aur meri tanhaayi)

Just when all looked lost, in walked a starry eyed Amar Singh and introduced hope, and the Ambani connection into Amitji's life (and those large superstitious rings on his fingers.) The success of KBC that followed, rekindled his celebrity, fan following, and brought endorsements, movie offers - and wealth - back into Big B's life.

It may be difficult for us fans to comprehend but most of Amitji's assets today are essentially post KBC (and post ABCL bankruptcy). All the block busters - including Deewar and Sholay - from his golden years, and nostalgic dewy eyed fans like us, dont translate to money on his balance sheet. We are mere Goodwill!("Oof tumhare oosul, tumhare adarsh. Kis kaam ke hai tumhare is oosul jo ek waqt ki roti tak nahi bana sakta?")

The hard knocks of life taught him that we fans are fickle. Here today, gone tomorrow. It is money, that keeps his - much like our - life going.

Amitji strode the world of cinema churning blockbusters for the best of 4 long decades! He left us spell bound all these years making us feel like Alice in wonderland. Every time we went to the theaters and looked at the silver screen he gave us one magical performance after another. He rarely failed us. He gifted us some of life's greatest moments. And some of our fondest memories.

At 64, and with time running out, Amitabh realizes that his best years are behind him. He has more years lived, than left.

All good things in life come to an end. However hard he tries, he may never be able to produce another Deewar or Sholay. Not even one last time. Not even for us.

All the great dialogue writers, sriptwriters and directors of his hey days are no longer around. The hey days themselves have long gone by. Times have changed. Tastes have changed. People have changed. The industry itself had changed. Even the reigning Shahenshah of Bollywood has changed!!

All good things in life come to an end. Amitabh has accepted this reality.

Only one thing remains the same - Our expectations of him.

Perhaps it is time we changed too.

Lets enjoy his talents, voice, songs, his mere presence, the happiness of seeing him on TV and films while we still can. In addition to being his, and our, passion - his acting also happens to be his livelihood. Lets not begrudge him that by holding his every role against our stringent moral expectations.

Lets celebrate and enjoy Amitabh's talents while we still can.

Oh PPPPPlease stop blowing AB's horn. I think we had enough of him and his family. I have witnessed better performers than him in India. I don't need to see him and his over hyped son all over the Media. Be it commercials, movies, social cause issues and the list is on going. When are we going to give a chance to new talent in this industry and when are we going to kiss AB's Ole ...I think Mr. AB its time for you to retire if not fully do it partially. Also, Like Yash Chopra you need to withdraw your name from any nominations in India unless its Oscars.

hey guys did you know that amitabh's deewar and shakti are remakes from Iranian movies. Okay I admit Amitabh is wonderfull in both these movies, but why being nostalgic about his ridicoulas Don... lets not go there again shall we. I just wanted to comment on "all those wonderful script writers blablabla"--> plaguirism.

Big B
by Prashant Kumar on Feb 25, 2007 04:43 AM  | Hide replies

i have read all matter here ... almost everything. There is so much talk about kamal, rajnikant, mohanlal ..etc.

Mujhe ek question poochhna hain, agar yeh itne hi great actors hain to Bollywood mein kayon nahi chale ... bollywood mein aakar yeh acting kayon nahi kar payee ... ??????????

Giriftaar, Hum, Company ... etc. Yahaan inhe kya huaa ... Agar great hain to har jagah great hona
padega ... verna nahi.

Abhi aap amitabh ko kahi bhi le lo .. he 'll show you how to perform ... and wht is acting.

So, dom't fight here .. becasue truth is truth.. aur sach yeh hain ke India mein sirf ek sher hain aur wo hain BIG B.

Jab amitabh Bachchan bolta hain to aawaaz jigar tak jati hain ... yakeen nahi hota to feel karke dekh lena kabhi bhi.

SRK is doing his best ... (We can't forget his contribution too) but he is also not a good actor.

Big B is very BIG ..

(These are my views .. i don't wanna hurt anybody ..)

hey! who said Amruthadharee(not Amrit dhaare) is flopped, its a biggest hit in the year 2006 after Jogi. Thats becoz of Big B' presence..If ur frm karnataka u wouldnt have said that. Mind it.

hey gaurav .. wht u think tht movie got flopped due to big B. forget it yaar... Grigtaar, Hum, aur company are hit movies .. and because of bing B and ajay devgan. Well list continues .. even Cheernjivi, R. madhvan, vaektesh, naga arjun etc. they also couldn't give their best in bollywood.

but i like everybody .. whtever names i mentioned, SADMA was great movie ..sri devi was also great in that .. ya, RHTDM is my all time favirate and BOYS, BOMBAY, ROJA, ANIYAN, and so many others movie i liked ..

but but .. whtever .. they couldn't give any hit .. even a good movie in bollywood. RAJNI, KAMAL, MOHANLAL, CHEERU .. and VIKRAM AND MADHVAN .. all are good.. but

not close to Big B ... he is simply great.

i hope u 'll take my reply as a friend, and as we are indian .. we should proud on everybody...

thanks for reading ... cheers!!
