What a lot of good serials we saw!
by Prashanth DSouza on Feb 10, 2007 03:51 PM

I posted many of the earlier serials in the same comments earlier...I remembered a few more and so posting them here.... I loved to watch 'Chunauti' and 'Subah' on DD. They used to be very informative about college years. Whew, what a good list of serials....not the sort of sad depressing serials we get these days....the camera pans to one face a thousand times with the same expression and the same music...and then nothing is achieved in the entire serial. It's good to know Karamchand's team is more or less the same even technically...

It will be a good experience to witness Karamchand again, Particularly to see Pankaj Kapur along with sweet Sucheta Khanna.I still remember the performance of GREAT PANKAJ KAPUR in " Ek Ruka Hua Faisla". Oh what a performance, I did not moved even an inch while waching it. Long live Pankaj.....

Good Old Nostalgia
by ashish shukla on Feb 10, 2007 07:26 AM

Airing Karamchand back on tv is a very good and welcome and a long awaitaed break from the crap which ekta kapoor is churning out on TV these days. Even channels like sony are also guilty in converting 'Jassi' from an intresting serial to a horrible serial. I think we should have only 13 episodes per serial and they should be aired year after year as a new season. This keeps the intrest in the serial alive and people actually look forward to watch the serial when they are back the next year.

In those nostalgic days i still remember watching chitrhaar or the sunday evening movie with the entire family and neighbours. it was just amazing. Alas we have lost those days in the marketing strateies of the new era... wish we could get back to the 13 episodes seasons..

Karamchand was my favourite serials on DD...! Its a welcome change, specially when TV channels these days are flooded with Ekta Kapoor's crappy saas-bahu type melodramatic soaps...!

I agree the saas-bahu junks are grating on nerves especially with them being soo long drawn with no seeming ending. A quick hilarious Karamchand over saas-bahu, back stabbing, any day for me. I was a little kid and I liked carrots only because of Karamchand.

Old DD Serials
by Rajesh Ray on Feb 10, 2007 01:18 AM  | Hide replies

It is indeed good to note that 'Karamchand' is back even though it was not my favourite serial..that 'honour' goes to 'Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi' closely followed by 'Ek Kahani' and 'Malgudi Days'.Those serials were indeed memorable...'Fauji','Circus', 'Buniyaad','Neev','Ramayan', 'Mahabharat','Mungeri Lal Ke Haseen Sapne', 'Kahaan Gaye Woh Log', 'Rajni', 'Wagle Ki Duniya','Flop Show'....the list is indeed lengthy. They were well directed, had great storylines, and provided clean wholesome entertainment for the entire family. By uniting the family in front of the TV at 9 pm they did much for the 'family' as a social unit. They are indeed some of the best memories of my childhood (1980s-early 90s); most of my age group(30-35) would readily agree ! Sadly, the same cannot be said of the utter crap that is churned out in an assembly line manner today on the numerous general entertainment channel...it is a clear case of too much quantity greatly lowering the quality. Really do miss those good old golden DD days ! Let us hope that the new episodes of 'Karamchand' can live up to our (high)expectations !

Karamchand brings back fond memories
by vidhya h on Feb 10, 2007 12:18 AM  | Hide replies

I am so happy that Karamchand is back and I am looking forward to watching it . I have so many fond memories of those wonderful serials of doordarshan . How as kids, we used to play in the open air and then come back to watch these wonderful shows like Nukkad, Fauji, humlog,Buniyaad, 1234, Chunauthi ,Malgudi days,Circus,Ramayan, He-man, Mungerilal, yeh jo hai zindagi, Udaan, Yogi and so many more .......wow they were so good . It brings tears to my eyes when I look at the shows toay even i belong to this generation , it just pains to see such regressive serials which are no where close to reality .
atleast its a start , only Sony has tried to do something different and I appreciate them for that.

indeed those were the great days!taking a trip down the memory lane makes u feel so good

there used to be this "secrets of the sea" from 10-11 on sundays - great precursor to discovery n national geagraphic channels. pankaj kapoor and kitty sushmita MUKHERJEE ALSO appeared in a serial by sudhir mishra - kab tak pukaroon - it was very fine serial. i think katha saagar's title music was haunting. whoc an forget the blockbuster music of malgudi days - tana na na tana nan na!

i wish they screened the 22 years old karamchand episodes again along with the new version - that would be very exciting

Awesome

Pankaj Kapoor is a great actor and Karamchand was a legend ! This is going to be great for indian televison, and with the name stating with K it has to be a success, right ;)

Hope this doesn't start a trend in TV to remake old serials, but I would love to see 'Ye jo hai zindagi' with the same actors !
