He was bound to get the top award of Indian cinema. He will go down in history as one of the best Indian directors, spoken in the same sentence as Adoor, Satyajit Ray, V.Shantaram and Bimal Roy among others.
Some of his movies are brilliant. Kalyug, Mandi, Nishant, Manthan, Bhoomika etc are some of the finest pieces of work in Indian cinema.

Correct your Incorrect knowledge
After Hindi the second most spoken language is MARATHI. proponents of Bengali may argue its Bengali..but please note its only after you add the bangla speaking population in Bangladesh that Bengali becomes the second most spoken language in South Asia. As Bangladesh is a seperate country, that logic is nullified.
Hence Marathi with 10 crore plus speakers is the most spoken non hindi language in India.
Please correct your numbers.
Marathi is also spoken in other states appart from Maharashtra in..
1> 70% in Goa speak Marathi 2> 8 districts in Gujrath which includes Surat and Baroda have a large Marathi speaking population 3>The former Royal kingdoms in MP and Rajasthan and Chatisgahdh and areas ajoining have large Marathi speaking population. 4> Northern parts of Telanghana and Hyderabad and Northern Karnataka have large Marathi speaking population. 5>New Delhi, Bangalore, Ahemdabad and Kolcutta also have large population of Marathi speaking population.
So correct your knowledge, the second most spoken language after Hindi is MARATHI.

And DO SUBTRACT the 2 crore plus illiegal Bangladeshis in India from the total of Bangla speakers in India.
Once that is done we have Bangla at third place.
Also Khandeshi, Ahirani, Varadhi, Konkani and Malwani are all dialects of Marathi.
That definately adds 1 crore plus speakers to Marathi.

Based on your bragging I can conclude because of your irresponsibility (Hindi, Marathi, bengali, Telugu), rest of India has to pay for over population!

Hey Reddy, correct your figures. While, I have nothing to say against Telugu, please note Bengalee is the second language spoken after Hindi. And Shyam Benegal is not Telugi, he is Konkani with base in Karwar.

He is from Hyderabad, born here and did his education including graduation here. His original name was Vanagara which was later changed to Benegal. They are Saraswat Brahmins, but have no one of their relatives staying in Karwar. And by the way, he does not speak Konkani.

Mr. AVM
While I am happy for Rajni's success and his persona, thanks for your offer. I am happy with Chiranjeevi - good actor, excellent dancer (even now in his 50 ), excellent orator and an above average look. I dont need to compare him to Rajni.
He is definitely one of the top movie director, but what we often do not remember to mention are the TV series he directed, like "Bharat Ek Khoj" or "Yatra".
