AVM..
The title of "Sir" is given to subjects of the Queen, Indians are not subject of the Queen. Only citizens & residents of Commonwealth Realm countries are. India is a Commonwealth country not a Commonwealth Realm country since 1952 or so, prior to that Indians were eligible.
Next time before you mouth off, please get some facts Sir!!!!
I dont care whether Shyam Benegal is telugu, konkani, kannada, bengali or marathi. u can make ur own inferences. But his details are: Vangala Shyam Sundar Rao Place of Birth: Alwal, Hyderabad DOB: 14 Dec 1934 Currently resides in Mumbai

but I would also like to see Noted Telugu Director & Artist BAPU (Sri Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana), (born 15 December 1933) get the Dada Saheb Phalke Award at some point in his life jointly with his friend and writer Mullapudi Venkata Ramana.

No hard felings. If a deserving person gets the award every one will applaud him irrespective of whether he is a Bengali, Tamilian, malayali, Marathi, Panajbi or whatever he is. Mr. Benegal deserves it and wish him many more such accolades.
I'm really happy to know that Benegalji has been honoured with prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award for 2005. He is one of my favourite film director. I have seen several times his last film on the most famous freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, where he had tried his best to highlight his (Bose's) actions, ideologies, speeches, travels, patriotism, sacrifices being a soldier, etc for motherland. He had struggled to revive once again the image of 'Netaji' in our eyes, which had got lost for many decades due to several political reasons.
