The discussion has again started whether he is a kannadiga, telugu, mallu or bengali.Come on guys, discuss about his movies you have seen (if any). Judge people by merit than their birthplace, caste etc. You people are pulling India back to its dark ages. Think above narrow outlooks.
Not many know that Shyam Benegal was born in Alwal, Hyderabad as Vangala Shyam Sundar Rao. He is also a cousin to noted actor GuruDutt. Well deserved honour for his contributions to Indian cinema.

Balls. Telugu Cinema runs on caste. Not on merit of an actor or Director. Every one knows the fact. Shyam Ji got the award because of his pure merit. Congratulations to him. No need for telugus to celibrate. It is the moment fans of this Director to celibrate. Telugu or non telugu has no meaning here. Telugu cinemas these days have no quality. No quality directors except one or two like K.Vishwanath. Others just copy and make films like Munnabahai or other films which are super hits in other languages or a copy of English films in Telugu style with unnecessary dance sequences and rotten jokes.

Well said Abdul. We still try to see the world through a very narrow pane. What to do..we are Indians.

Well said, Abdul. That's the spirit. We have become so fond of our region/religion/language that we always tend to forget that we are Indians.
