So much tamasha over something so small and trivial....
Oh by the way...
does anyone still remember that the event Gere and Shetty were at was an AIDS awareness programme? With all the hype right from the local newspaper to top global players like CNN, FOX and BBC... but not much AIDS awareness done right?
Did you know that: >Every minute a child dies of an AIDS related illness >Every 15 seconds a youth contracts HIV > 1 out of every 200 people in India is HIV positive. Thats 0.5% of our one billion population
But no!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The obscene behavior of Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty apparently is more important

this was not the film, they were on stage with some responsibility. lets move on is alright but there is no way that the force gere used to pin down shilpa can be justified, were they there to promote aids?

I completely agree with this.... Come on people..India isn't some stone age cave mans land. We all see much more than kisses in our very own touted Indian Cinema.
And right now there are far more important things to care about that Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty indulging in a kiss...
Has anyone paid attention to the number of innocent children sexually abused in Inida? the consequences they face from human trafficking?
The number of innocent children, who either contract aids or are born with it thanks to the ignorance among so many millions of people in this country?
Those helpless individuals are the ones we need to fight for..not Shilpa Shetty. She is perfectly capable of taking care of her self. If she finds Mr.Gere's actions offensive, she can take the action necessary, she dosent need lobbyists to fight her battles.
All the fanatical people out there who want to implicate Mr.Gere for his so called outrageous behavior, why don't you put your resources to better use and make real difference to people who need your help.
can anyone imagine how much force was used on shilpa to pin her in that position by gereso that he could shamelessly smooch her again and again.shilpa and others are trying to justify the unjustifiable, it was not an affectionate gesture,it was beastly forceful. will all those who are justifying this will enjoy same force used on their sisters or wives? courts have done a right thing by summoning shilpa and issuing warrant against richard,as shilpa failed to slap gere then and there. also organizors should call themselves aids promotors.

first "Shaju", learn how to write in english properly and second, if Shilpa wanted fame for this? Good for her, she couldn't have picked a bette actor! The Indians born and raised in North Americia are laughing at you people for making this such a big deal, i have white people coming up to me and asking why they're making such a fuss over a kiss? All i could say was that's how backward's and naive the Indian society is, in Indian that is.....lol.......this the funniest thing i have ever come across in my life! Go Shilpa, have your fun and fame, and Gere.....why just kiss her on the cheek, couldnt you do more? LOL!!!

Hi, The problem is not kissing but the time. They were standing as responsible people to promote awareness among people about aids. That is not a film show. You should also notice that no responsible person in America will act in such a indecent way. Observe people in America.Eventhough kissing is not a big deal for them still they do not act so wildly on a show. You should be proud of your country always. It is better for you to remain silent rather saying that Indians are backward. Hey,kissing in publc does not make you developed. That is not a sign of development. I certainly object their action. They can do whatever they want to behind the doors but not in public. We could have picked up someone who handles the situation more responsibly and dignifiedly.

Mr.Nair,
You are obviously ignorant about basic biology.
For the sake of saving the face of every Indian man.... refrain from making such outrageous comments.... kissing Mr.Gere in public will make Shilpa Shetty pregnant? That woman has more grit than cowardly men like you.
If you people have forgotten...she was one of the first Indian Actors to portray Aids in Indian Cinema... She is old enough to make her own choices...whatever they may be..
Ignorant men like your self should be the last people to be passing judgment on her or Mr.Gere.

Hi dear....you r right and i also agree with your proposal. Shilpa shetty is really enjoying the kiss....actually all celebrities are not bad....if u will go to the past...then u will find some celebrities , who only want fame and for this fame they can do anything...they can sell their everything...and she is one of them.....
Goodness gracious me!!! How the hell is it Shilpa's fault for crying out loud??? If its a big event and someone just gives a woman a peck on her cheek, what is she expected to do?? Slap him???I think not... Christ, stop blowing all this stuff outta proportion, its a bloody peck on the cheek for crying out loud.. Dont you believe in 'to each their own'?? Why the hell are you guys getting so agitated if it doesn't even concern you'll.Idiots like you'll make reidiff earn millions of bucks because these kinda cheap stories sell with you dimbulbs....
Start thinkiing about better things like contributing to your society in someway rather than passing such judgements on this issue...
No wonder we're the laughing stock of the world...
Ps- Richard Gere's been helping us for years when it comes to Aids Campaigns and other socail awareness campaigns so before jumping the gun to lambast him, think about what he's done for our country which we ourselves fail to do...

They showed ppl burning effigies. I mean Come On!! Its such violent reaction for a romantic impulse indulge which dint harm anybody. They were all grown up men watching for crying out loud.

your absolutely right.
A man from half way across the world has made a bigger difference than all these ignorant men we have in this country.
Honestly to all those judgmental men out there..what good have you guys done? besides over populating a country with no concern for issues like aids or poverty?
Best example of Money & to get popular. This is not the first time when bollywood actress is crossing her limits of being Indian lady. Many have done and many will do. Moreover if they don't do these things, how will rediff get such gossip? Anyway let them enjoy :)

dude, these days in india, the only lady who comes across as 'INDIAN' is sonia gandhi..

Who gives you men the right to decide what is the right behavior for Indian women?
And one of you claim that the only Indian woman who really comes across as one in Sonia Gandhi...remember you fools she isn't even Indian to begin with....you honestly are blind sighted by your narrow minded foolishness...
RE:Best example of Money & Popularity

Yes...sachin ur right.....they can do anything for their for money...actually i don't know that why they r doing all these things....they have huge money...they have family but when they r doing all this things tht means it reflects the culture of that actress...........
Wake up India, It;s a kiss on her chekk for crying out loud. He has commited a sin. U indians have really nothing better to do with your lives. Why can't people look beyond this, get over it. Worry about poverty and cleaning india up and stop waiting your time on petty things like this.

Just because people are commenting on this, it doesnt mean they dont care abt stuff like poverty.Rediff has given a platform to express their opinions so they are expressing their opinions. They dont do this as a full time job. And what do u mean by ''u indians''??. Arent u an indian??

What sadistic pleasures are you talking about?
What about the sadistic actions against hundreds of women trafficked or raped in India everyday?
These two individuals are being picked on for a harmless peck on the cheek? not withstanding that they are among the few Indian's, who have actually come out in the open about an issue like Aids and tried to help educate the masses of ignorant idiots like you guys here...
