Anuji copies again Nadeem Shravan

@ This sure counts as 'breaking news' and it clearly isn't over yet! In a recent Mumbai Mirror write-up Anu Malik attributed the popularity of some of his recent soundtracks (including Umrao Jaan!) to a divine figure that entrusted responsibility to score for some films!! Looks like that figure is either Nadeem or Shravan Bhai! How else do you explain the presence of an obscure Nadeem Shravan tune in the high-profile music of Umrao Jaan? Hard to believe? Dig this...Nadeem Shravan's forgotten 2002 score for the unknown film, 'Ansh' had a fast paced shaadi track, 'Dhoom machi hai' that bears an uncanny similarity to the recently hyped Umrao Jaan track, 'Salaam'! Its very likely that both composers may have sought inspiration (as usual!) from some Pakistani track or perhaps another older Hindi track...just a matter of time before someone brings it to our notice!

abishek and alka and anu
by usman khawaja on Oct 12, 2006 07:53 PM

these three as weigh as two big flaws in this remake the only a plus being ash lets see if she can pull this premature delivery from a stillbirth im very pessimistic i listened to the album 3 times trying to find some inspiration , unfortunately it was in vain , the akhtar shairi is a waste of space if something is not well written it can never be well conceived . i bet the only crew suitable was gulzar arrehman and arjun rampal in abhis role , at he looks like a nawab , but i think this is going to be a bad omen for ash , her continuous string of flops which she doesnt deserve at all , as she has proven her talent in chokker bali and raincoar even bride and mistress she was good , imm so sorry for her

What else can you expect
by Sree on Oct 11, 2006 01:41 PM

Oil faced, elephant based couch potatoes like Anu Malik spins the music.... you think Indra from the celestial world will dance? This is an obvious expectation.

Its a disgrace that J P Dutta intellectual offered this prestegious project to an ape called Anu Malik.

Its best from Anu bhai and Javed sab.
by Ravindra Gandhe on Oct 11, 2006 11:46 AM

Yea. Why should Rediff give a title "Not good" and then give 3 *s at the end.
The reviewer is biased. He loves the old one and everyone. Old Umrao Jan is best of Khaiyyam. Even if Khiyam creates it again, it will not be good enough. So if review a music, it should be with open mind. Give him a chance, he is not creating music as the likes Himesh Reshamiya (nasal).
I think he has done a good job. It is better than copying the movie in its etirity e.g. Don and all the replicas of hollywood and remixes with one extra beat.
Well done Anu Malik and Javed Sab... Bravo........ for having guts for creating something.

Umrao Jaan music

I think the if the film flops the credit should go to Anu Malik. JP Datta has choosen a wrong music director for a classis film like Omrao Jaan

Not bad at all
by Uma on Oct 11, 2006 07:48 AM

The music of the new Umrao Jaan is not bad at all, and quite a surprise from Anu Malik. In fact, it might be one of his best ever scores. The songs are pleasant on the ear, and such a relief to listen to some slow-paced, classical numbers with meaningful lyrics. But the choice of singers is not great: I think Kavita Krishnamurthy or Shreya Ghoshal might have done a better job than Alka Yagnik in some of the numbers. There's no point comparing the music of this film with the original: That was a once-in-a-lifetime creation, and cannot be repeated. I think Anu Malik did a good job, given that he was up against a classic and that comparisons would almost inevitably favour Khayyam.

by usman khawaja on Oct 11, 2006 04:31 AM

not even close to the 80s classic a dmediocre score with alka lacking ashas range and a very poor lyricism by javed , too sad for this is a flop movie cant see people rushing to see it with abhishek and this music despite ash and her looks

The music is simply awesome!
by Muthu on Oct 10, 2006 08:41 PM

The music is simply too good. Comparisons can never be made between music made at different times....it is very relative. I would say music like that of umrao.... are but rare gems....amidst the lot of crap churned out today in movies and mad remixes.
