i agree even 3 stars are too much its a dud , the alka voice is flat no dard and javeds lyrics mediocre yeh kya jage he dosto and justju in old umrao are 2 of the best gazals ever done
Not only the music, but even Ash cannot stand anywhere when compared to old movie. her expressionless face jeoparadizes the name of the movie. I think Madhuri can do justice with the title and dances
Ms. Verma, you nailed it! That is as precise as a review can get. One cannot blast the album as worthless but there is nothing to be gushing about either. You mention the few good songs aptly and write off the others that are bad. That's being totally fair to Mr Anu Malik's supposed hard work on this album.
I respect Anu Malik because he is the only one to have withstand the touch competition in the industry since last 26 years.But J.P Dutta surely went overboard when he handed Umrao Jaan to Anu Malik, Because Umrao Jaan needs a music that is not only romantic but also oozes that classical touch which in todays times can only be delivered by Ismail Darbar or to a lesser extent A.R.Rahman.And Alka Yagnik singing classical is just too much to ask for.It could have been a comback vehicle for Anuradha Paudwal or Sadhana Sargam.

I agree with you. Ismail would have been better for this kind of music. I liked anu Refugee music more than the UJ. If only use of saarangi and classical interlude music makes one song look classical, it is something I disagree with. Alka renders every song well except when she is forced to pitch out of her confortable level where she shrills...otherwise, i would want to appreciate for the era that we have been...but it falls way to short of timeless classic that the original creates...
One can easily understand the difference between Rekha and aishwariya rai, Farookh sheikh and abhishek bachan, naseer and suniel shetty, khayyam and anu malik this list is endless.Today's all actors lacks THAT intensity of Umrao jaan which Rekha lived and potrayed.
UJ music is absolutely superb. Each song out of 8 songs differ from each other and all songs leaves ( brokenheart impression of UJ's character)All songs were sung, written and cmposed brilliantly. I don't think so that anyone of these three artists can be replased by one other artist of same professional. The past ( Rekha ) UJ's song had some great musical score but only two songs had left the impression on your hear when you listen the ( Rekha's character UJ ).
J.P. Dutta has created magic by selecting the best musical team of the resent times.
