Alternate Umrao Jaan review
by V.V. Narayanan on Nov 04, 2006 03:43 PM

Read your piece of review. I have not seen the film yet. However, this only reinforces my opinion, formed by the speed with which J.P. Dutta churned it out, that this could be anywhere near the earlier one - whether in direction or in the histrionic talents or the insightful expression of Umrao by Rekha, ably supported by other talented artists.

There is no doubt Old version is better than newer one.....but in terms of visuals, and really new look and dedication to old traditional way....new version is worth watching....Also there is no need to compare old with new....because old version was for 25 years back audience.....and this latest version is quite suitable and well made for present audience......New Aishwarya Jan is dashing in movie and songs, visuals,storyline....all are good...go watch and have fun....all

Nothing can be worse!
by Pradnyaa J on Nov 04, 2006 02:00 PM

Well I saw the movie and I don't think it deserves even 10 words of review. Direction is BAD Bad bad. It doesn't show like JP Dutta knows anything like characterisation. Music gets worse, what with some western, eastern and copied hindi tunes in background. I haven't seen the old Umrao Jaan and my views are far from comparison. Atleast ten people walked out before the interval in adlabs yesterday.
Guys, watch at your own risk!

New Umrao is no way better than the old one . Once again it is proved "Old is Gold" Be it a movie or songs. The film makers should give away the ideas of remake of legendary movies

very good movie
by Nick on Nov 04, 2006 10:47 AM  | Hide replies

J.P. Dutta's Umrao Jaan is a very nice movie and it is different from the present line of love stories and emotional movies. Acting by all the actors are great and the songs are pleasent and smooth to hear which entirely new composed and they are also different from the original ( NOT COPIED LIKE "DON" ).

How many of the current veiwrs has seen the original Umrao Jaan . Its great that this J.P. Dutta's Umrao Jaan is not copied from the originl.

That is called the innovaton in movie trends for the new age of people who is more interested in fashion and style and great looks.

For fashion and style why waste money going to a movie.Just tune in FTV or Trend.A clasic is not made by these components, not even the songs. It is the story and its treatment which makes a classic.Just see the 1981 Umrao Jan, still better see Gone With THE WIND which is all time greatest classic.

Umrao Jaan Review
by Sunil Gandhi on Nov 04, 2006 10:35 AM

First of all Umrao Jaan watchers should have taste of these kind of movies. Dhoom and Krish kind of watchers will certainly fell asleep.

But for Music which was better in Rekha starrer UJ, new movie is very nicely made and worth seeing. Don remake is 2/10 and Umrao Jaan remake is 8/10.
